Thanks for the video. Some of my high school players have been taught the drop and drive technique and they are great pitchers. We’ll explore with the slight bend approach. Great information.

Thank you so much I am ten years old and in the majors for little league and I’m pitching low 50s and I want to throw a lot faster like some of the other pitchers in the league

Thank you for the video! My son struggles with this (vertical shin), seems to feel powerful for him to drop or sit into quad, instead of rotating into the hip/glute. He throws mid 80's (83-85) with this knee getting out of toe method, but seems to be stuck there. Is there any cues that have helped you or students of yours?
Is there a point where the knee does get out over the toe, during the drop/drive phase, or should the shin remain vertical throughout?
    Thanks.

Hey Ron, there is actually a very easy drill to help your son fix this issue. One thing I like to do is place a foam pad in front of the pitchers knee when they come set (place the pad slightly below the center of their knee cap). As the coach you will be behind the pitcher (2nd base side) holding the foam pad so it extends in front of their knee. Ensure the foam pad doesn’t extend too far towards home as well. If your son stays tall with the back leg and doesn’t collapse and load the quad prematurely he will never touch the foam pad. One thing to note when talking about vertical shin is a lot of times a concept that gets missed is vertical shin is very dependent on your hip make up (ER vs IR dominant) an IR hip dominant pitcher chasing vertical shin can actually be counter productive. The man cue I would suggest is to think stay tall early and then think try and sit on a stool while moving towards the target (you can try and place an object that is tall enough behind your son and have him sit into it and feel what this feels like - drill on this soon). I will post some drills here soon for this and if you want to email me at alexleal213@gmail.com I can send you them as soon as I record the drills this weekend.

Also check out this video where I talk about loading the glute. I include some drills for learning this during leg decline: czcams.com/video/ogratSnarjw/video.html - the videos i can send you this weekend will focus more on if the player is loading the quad during the leg lift phase but they can also be used for leg decline as well
