That's certainly a popular opinion about the owner, and one I thought of before we played the course, what I will say is that everyone that we met who works on the course or in the hotel were locals to the area who would likely have to move away to find another job if this course and hotel didn't exist. It's massive for the local economy, not just the staff but other local bars, restaurants etc that benefit from the tourism the hotel drives. I looked at is more as supporting them than the owner. Aside from that, the course is stunning, a great challenge and genuinely was good fun to play with some mates.

A great course. Have played it a few times now. That opening hole is jaw dropping. Theres a lot of derogatory comments from people at times about the place. Maybe because of who owns it, maybe due to snobbery, insisting other links courses are "better". I have no issue with the owner and even if I did, it wouldnt take anything away from what is a cracking golf course. Everything there is top class. Nice to see you guys give it the praise it deserves.

His golf course in Doonbeg is fantastic alright
and the trains ran on time. For those who don’t get that, that’s how the italians justifed Mussolini

@@mickcole2763Norman couldn’t make the course he wanted due to environmental issues and a rare species of snail found on the land. It explains some of the weak holes. Lahinch , Ballybunion and Tralee are better links courses imho.
@myopenmind527 Tralee and Lahinch yeah... Ballybunion not so much imo. The original Norman course was miles better than the current one...
But yes the snail really ruined what could of been up there with the very best in the world.
