- In this video I'm going to show you how I removed the convertible top on my 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T (AWD SWAPPED) Spyder. I'm not an expert by any means, so use this tutorial at your own risk as I do not accept any responsibility if you break/damage anything... Being that there were no videos were made (for this particular model) in the past, I wanted to make this to shed some light to those that have never done this before. I bought a 2nd Spyder thats why im here. the inside roof cover that snap into the rails, thats a noise insulation cover, mine was ripped so i didnt install it when i 1st did mine on my 1st Spyder 12 years ago, i found a used good 1 from another Spyder at junk yard later made a huge difference. 2nd that cable you cut...you need that, you needed it for reassembly it some sort of spring retractable cable that works with the converterible motorsand straps...that part you cut behind the rear seats was part of the rain/water gutter you need to remove the rear seats and it unhooks very easy to access, but yeah DSM parts are very rare and hard to find these days as more times goes on...
Well im blessed that I've found this video I'm a brand new owner of an eclipse and I have never worked on a car in any capacity so this video is a help anything other free tips would be phenomenal. I will have to take a Crack at it since mines is totally worse than yours. Again appreciate the video keep up the great work.

I am changing my OEM top on a 98 eclipse gst spyder. How I removed those cables was I used a punch and hammered out those rivets.
I got the top on and together, but had to unbolt the last ram to do it. Can not get the support beam to reinstall or close my top. Please advise how to install the last ram. It will not shift all the way up to rear of the car
Nice and detailed vid, but damn man you made it harder than you needed to lol. Nice work though! Should have unbolted the last bow near the trunk area first - would have made things much smoother. As you mentioned, don't cut that black interior cover under the rear glass that mounts to the back seat framing - just gotta pull the upper cushion and it unclips around the lip area. Also, for those tackling this, be careful, be patient, and don't screw up that rubber drain channel that goes around the top well - it staples to the last bow and clips around the bottom of the body lip - it's not sold separately and if it tears, you get interior leaks galore.

I wish this came out 3 months ago, gave my car to a somewhat cheap shop and my top was kinda off center, also on ebay they sell those brackets u are missing. The spyders had issues with them bending
I guess better late than never 🤷♂️. I did see those brackets on ebay for sale. Luckily, I was able to transfer everything from a donor car I got a few days I did this top removal and it had everything I needed. 😎🤙

Where are you located at. I would pay to get my soft top replaced
My insurance company gave me 6.5k after someone broke into my car so I ordered a replacement convertible canvas and new bow arms and had a shop in Wisconsin install it for $1500, I've never installed a canvas but I installed complete convertible top assemblies before but its hard finding a 2g with a perfect top now days.
Buying black spyder 5 speed tomorrow rebuild motor new top $2500

I would love if somebody made a coupe conversion. Too many undesirable spyders driving around, they could be put to use
Carbonetics sells them.. but I'm sure it probably comes with a hefty price tag. 🥴

@@SupernaturalWB the one I seen before in the past is pretty much like how s2Ks do it. You drop the convertible top and you put this over it and latch it on.

Grab a air compressor with a air gun and blow the holes on the Windshield weatherstripping

This is one of the worst to designs I've had to mess with.
I didn't take it out, just trying to put the new top in. There's zero instructions already for this car.
Fortunately, you're tear down video shows what I am missing. The staple line on the last rib, which you threw away. (?)
I have to attached the top to that rib with glue and staples.
If I had a time machine, I'd go back and punch a 2G designer.
