Sorry this Video is so long, but there were lots of great places to share, to meet all budgets! Do you have some more to recommend in the comments here? Please do.
Thank you so much for posting this information.
Hopefully most of those places are still trading...... any prices here might be a bit out of date.
Hi Rob, Thanks for all the Food Tips, I liked another of your ones about the Levels of Food, Pilgrims Menu - Menu del Día- Restaurant, and the prices only increased slightly. On my first Camino I existed on, a Cheese Roll for lunch, and a Spaghetti with Meatballs for `Tea' - every Day ! - Your insights will make my third Camino a Gastronomic event. Cheers Mate, Alan
The food on the Camino is my downfall! I have to same it all........ 🙄
Hi there. I am glad to see that it has really been a unique experience for you. Greetings from a spaniard who wants you to repeat "El Camino" many times. Buen camino!.
Thank You Alberto. Maybe I will need to move to Spain! I hope to walk the Camino many more times 🙂
If you want to move to Spain ... why not? Surely you know that there are a lot of trails to travel throughout Spain and there is always a small town nearby. It is the best way to get to know a country ... best wishes!
I can tell you, we are seriously considering it, and have been for quite a while now. If not a permanent move, maybe a few months each year. We love the area around Burgos.
@@robscamino It is a quiet area full of beautiful walks. I don't live in that area but I know it quite a bit because I really like Romanesque art. The only thing you should take into account, in my opinion, is the weather. It is an area of extreme climate with very cold winters and summers above 30º C. I have been in spring and autumn which for my taste are the best times to go there.
I remember a lot of those places you mentioned on the Frances and ate in some of them, you're right that you don't really get bad food on the camino but some meals are better than others. We stayed in the other albergue in Fonfria and had a fantastic communal meal in an old celtic roundhouse, the hosts were great and got everybody dancing and singing, a real highlight
Yes I've seen that place online. It looks really good. If I do the CF again I'll definitely stay there.
We're late comers to your channel Rob but we're glad we finally found it, and are now subscribed.
This episode, in particular, is of major interest as we intend to get there and and walk the Frances route asap and enjoy many dishes along the way.
By the by, we recommend your intermittent fasting vid as we started it over 15 months ago and have shed >25kg & >30kg AND kept it off.
I mention this as eating the meals you have shared here will require a lot of exercise and dietary discipline before during and after the walk, or we will return to being "stoutish".
Again, thanks for your great work for aspiring pilgrims.
Glad you enjoy the channel. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time on your first Camino!
I haven’t walked a Camino yet, but I do IF and expect that being comfortable with going with much longer stretches between will make it easier to walk without being famished. Hoping so!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. So helpful. Truly. Lots of good work here, my friend. We are starting in late September.
Buen Camino!
Thanks for all the great tips Rob. I have a couple for you for that last day into Santiago, as you were lacking some in that area. Meson A'esquipa in Salceda is the most incredible place for smoky barbecued meat (churrasco) and does some pretty mean pulpo too - better than the stuff I had in Melida. And Casa de Amancio, a lovely old stone restaurant in Vilamaior had the best roast lamb I've had on the camino and is the perfect place to take lunch before arriving in Santiago in the afternoon.
Yes, we've had some nice meats at Meson A'esquipa in Salceda. But I haven't tried Casa de Amancio. Sounds like it's certainly worth a stop!
In Santiago, 160 m of the cathedral, there is an Italian gem 💎!
Restaurante italiano La Picolla Italia scq Pizzeria! Absolutely amazing Italian and authentic food! A must!
Peasant de Fonseca, 1 .
Must try it! I've certainly passed it. lapiccolaitaliascq.com/
Thanks have taken lots of noted
Glad it helped
Thank you. I enjoyed the video and added lots of your recommendations to my notes. Some of the restaurants had been recommended by others which is always a nice sign! We are walking the Camino Frances starting May 29, 2022. I can't wait! We are staying in the first parador and the Zoila Monastery hotel. We are also staying in the parador in Leon and Santiago. I know the one in Leon is on your way out of town. Looking forward to eating my way through Spain. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Took note👍🏻
but........places change......
I had a fair degree of overlap with you and I agree with your opinions (especially about getting the Menu del Dia instead of Pilgrim's Menu). A couple of favorites of mine 7 Sillas on the plaza in Ponferrada and A Taberna do Bispo for Tapas in Santiago . I also only had one or two bad meals on the Camino Frances, now on the VDLP (about 6 years ago), that's another story.
I must look out for those my next time on the CF, when ever that might be! Would love to hear the VdlP story!
Hi Rob! Where do you recommend staying in Santiago? Hope to be there this May 2023! Thanks😊
Really the options are endless! Depending on budget etc. I like to be near the Cathedral so I can easily go to the Pilgrims' Mass a few times.
