  • From the album Bridge Of Sighs
I saw a light, just up ahead
But I couldn't seem to rise up from my bed
I'm not alone, and then I am
Some people seem to think I'm superman
    I watch for the love
I'm living in the day of the eagle,
    eagle not the, dove
Its like a weight, that brings me down
If I don't move, I'm on the ground
Its in my mind, Its in my soul
It's telling me the things I can't be told
    It says,
    Watch for the love
Living in the day of the eagle,
    eagle not the, dove
    Another day, another night
I wanna love, they wanna fight
I need some time, I've got to be alone
I got to think it over on my own
But I watch for the love
Living in the day of the eagle,
    eagle not the, dove

+Jeff Shattuck ....Hey there, Mike & Jeff, I'm a fellow "Old Schooler" here in Ft Laud, Fla., , I'm 56yrs old, or at least they try and claim that on paper!! In 1975, I was 16yrs old in the 11th grade and owned 2 of Trowers LP's, and we heard from "Peaches Records" here in Ft Laud., Fla., that he was coming to the then world famous "Miami Jai ALai Fronton" venue in Miami, Fla., ( 20K seats??) and MAN, sold out in like 2 - 3 days, and we had 5th row center seats, and "Day of the Eagle" had JUST gone thru the roof and blew up!!! Little did anybody know he was trying out a new sound system that tour, and it broke records and got shut down and banned in some cities, it was like 43 tons of amps or something, and he came out as he was being announced and opened up with "Day of the Eagle", and OH MY GAWD, forget it, BEDLAM -nobody sat down for the rest of the 100 mins show, we were all screaming and cheering, (LOL) my girlfriend and I went home DEAF AS POSTS & hoarse for like 3 days from the DB volume & being so close , BUT WOW WE WERE THRILLED.., wouldn't have had it any other way, that man had the crowd in the palm of his hands, and was making his white Strat talk to him the whole show, 3 encores, WHAT A CONCERT, what a show and what a concert!! Issue was, when Trower released this in 1974, we were still reeling from Hendrix's death in 1970. Trower went from Procol Harum to playing with a Hendrixian tone on his strat. Gossip was he was attempting to cash in on that vibe. I quickly got over that belief and on a daily basis I cranked this song up to 15 and began to legitate eventually. I was 20 when this album was released.

you always hear all the greats . . . clapton, hendrix, SRV, etc . . . but I'd completely forgotten about Trower, not hearing his songs for so long . . . I'm so glad someone reminded me, haven't been able to get my fill since!

Trower was really awsomre to listen to back then, and just as much now. His music truly is timeless. It really makes me sad that many of these great musicians one by one are slowly reaching the age where they're being called to their final resting place. The late 60s and early 70s was a time of many great rock musicians. Personally I don't believe that time we'll ever be repeated although there are many good musicians now I don't think they have the enthusiasm and even the ability that some of the greats like Clapton, Trower, Hendrix, and many others had. They were just very talented musicians. The list would be too long to put on this comment but I really miss those times. I think the bands today should pay more attention to some of these greats and try to emulate them. Bands need to hear the driving energy that rock music had back then, and do their best to copy it. There are some really great cover bands who are quite talented, but they don't write the music they're only playing music that was already written. It would be nice to hear current music that has the same driving energy behind it. It's probably hoping for too much and wishing for something that just won't happen but I I think there's a lot of room for improvement. One of the things I believe that makes current bands different from bands of the 70s is what motivates them. In the seventies these musicians played from their hearts they really loved what they were doing and money was a secondary issue for many of these musicians. Now I believe money is the front issue and whatever they can create that's just good enough is what they're going to create. . Today's music enthusiasts really need to be exposed to this kind of music so they can understand what was going on in the music scene back in the sixties and seventies, and even many of the things going on in the world at that time.

I have my older sisters to thank for turning me on to Trower, along w/ the likes of ELP, Floyd, Beck, tc. Thanks sisters for letting your kid brother ruin some of your records. I did replace those I buggered up. FYI
