These Northern counterparts of the familiar Laughing Kookaburra are widespread across Northern parts of Australia. Their raucous call is a prominent part of the dawn chorus across the tropical woodlands of Australia. Waiting for long periods of time, they swoop down to hunt lizards, small snakes, scorpions and rodents. There are three sub Species in Australia. These clips were taken in the Queensland Gulf. This bird Video is part of my channel started in 2015. My ambition is to showcase 500 Australian bird species. I am passionate about Bird Video as it Potentially shows bird behaviour, breeding and often bird song.
I began birdwatching when I was 12 and progressed to bird photography and then to bird Video for the past 15 years.
Originally from the UK, I find birding in Australia exciting and engaging. I have now travelled around Australia twice but mainly film birds in Queensland.
Many of the bird clips are taken from hides or blinds that I construct from bush materials, saving the need to carry a hide to a location.
Knowing bird calls and song is a big part of finding each species and naturally, knowing the habitat requirements helps also.

what a beautiful kookaburra, I've never seen one of these before in person and it's on my list of birds I must see. Brilliant close up footage and capture there and the colourations are very similar to the laughing kookaburra but more blue. Thanks for sharing Tim! =)
Brilliant!! We have these Blue Winged Kookaburras in Darwin. Where is this filmed? So interesting when viewed up close.
