      He waited too much with the shot, the Shiki already started turning away, when the salvo landed. Should have pulled the trigger ~3sec before to get the cheak.

    The problem with this ship isn't with the ship itself. The problem is the dispersion is so accurate that you can see how bad the aiming system of the game is when it puts the shells everywhere but where you aimed. The ship's guns are good, but it's let down by the game's spaghetti code

      @@Hahejo Maybe back in 2017 that would be fine, but good luck trying to aim at a French destroyer or a Smaland without an aiming assistant to help you. WG just needs to admit they've made a mistake and fix it. But we know WG never does that kind of thing

    The japanese dispersion elipse is the worst in the game. Combine that with an artillery bug and you are in for a real treat.

      As an insult to injury their shells tends to overpen even most islands. Getting good salvo really shows how much rng is involved in this game.😊

      ​@@Gundolf300 Yeah, the problem with most BB's is not the dispersion, but the fact when you do hit your rolling a dice to deal any damage at all. Really fun when you get a full broadside of a ship at point blank range, and can't punish it because you just overpen. The only consistent way to citadel anything anymore is to be halfway across the map and get plunging fire.

      That is not entirely true.
      IJN BB have the worst dispersion ellipse at short ranges due to the high flat offset in the formula.
      However the variable range dependent modifier is the lowest which results in them having the accuracy at very long ranges.

    Yall are forgetting that Bungo also has quite low penetration for 457s, especially at range it drops off dramatically.
    At about 17km your pen starts getting worse than the 406s on the FdG or Iowa

    Ngl I think it may have something to do with the japanese dispersion formula, in my experience it can make shells trend towards high and low on targets, kinda the opposite of french/EU dispersion. I can't confirm this 100%, but I have heard/seen that japanese ships have really high vertical dispersion but very low horizontal dispersion, which is why they can feel bad when shooting broadsides but do weirdly huge damage when shooting bow in cruisers w/ overmatch. IMO high vertical dispersion feels way worse than horizontal, which is why this ship can feel really inconsistent even with those insane numbers.

      May also explain why the salvo on the Malta at the end was so juicy, that thing has a real high citadel so wonky vertical dispersion wouldn't matter as much.

      No it has nothing to do with that. While the Japanese do have worse vertical dispersion, you can witness the exact same kind of issues with other accurate battleships like Montana or Vermont or Thunderer or Ohio. It even happens in the hyper accurate battlecruisers like Stalingrad. The game's aiming system is just full of bugs, so the shells will consistently go everywhere but where you aim

      @@JustSomeGuyWithNoMaidens he's not saying other bbs don't have this issue with the aiming system, just that the worse vertical dispersion ON TOP of the shitty aiming bugs makes Japanese bb dispersion experience really shit.
      I have to agree with him, it's the reason why people say Yamato needs the legendary mod to really make it shine and personally I have so many more extra high or low shots in my amagi than north carolina or alabama.

      @@jasonliu2383honestly for this reason I hate playing the Yamato. I consistently get insane 20k salvos on bow-in cruisers or battleships, and then watch my shells over pen or fall short on broadsides… super frustrating.

      You can absolutely prove it 100%, all the shell dispersion statistics are found in the wiki. It'll tell you vertical and horizontal dispersion measurements.
      French 100% trend to horizontal and IJN 100% trend to vertical.

    I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to the inconsistent salvoes despite careful aiming. It's been exceptionally frustrating whenever I play BBs in Ranked, just witnessing shots either go higher or lower than where you aim the guns at, sometimes going way off course.

      One thing I noticed on my battleships is that if I zoom out too quickly after I fire my main guns, it messes with my dispersion.
      It's as if I was never locked onto my target. So to fix this, I have to stare at my target for 2 seconds before I zoom out.

      Idk in some of the shots (such as the one against the broadside thunderer) he's complaining about, he definitely aimed too low or high. With a less accurate ship, it would not have mattered as some shells would have dispersed into the target.

      Yeah. The only way I get around it is I aim slightly below the water for 1-2 guns. 1-2 guns at the water line. 1-2 guns above the water line. depending how many guns the ship has.

      The aim system is a constant problem for me, even when I have perfect aim most of my shells fly to mars. Its just my perception but it also feels like shells fired at me are drawn into my ship like by a magnet, I will do 3250 DMG with a full broadside and 1 shell hits me for 30k. Anyone else experience this? While far from the best I am a veteran player over 5 years.

    Yeah. Had a game in Iowa - perfectly broadside Goliath, 9 km (!!) away. Shot perfect center, waterline. ALL 9 shells went horribly low. Then I burned to death. This happened a few more time later. The aiming system truly is broken.

    i went and checked shiptool after hearing the 2.2 sigma part, and yep, that's the best sigma value on *every battleship in the game*. then i glanced at the dispersion and had to do a double take, cause it's worse than yamato's.
    wg *reaaaaaaaaaally* promoting that gimmick use for bungo. bb eye in the sky when?
    edit: the only other ship in the game with a higher sigma value is stalingrad. that's literally it.

      It's basically the same as Yamato, but with better sigma and the spotter plane buff. Now, maybe a Unique Upgrade Yamato is still more accurate, but then Bungo would have even better DPM.
      Then they have other advantages and disadvantages (speed, torpedo belt, AA...).
      Honestly, I don't see the problem.

      @@landochabod7 Vertical dispersion is a veeeery understated stat in BB accuracy. Yamato already has a tendency to throw shells in front of and behind targets (especially bow in targets), which is what vertical dispersion governs, and at base Bungo's vert. disp. is worse by a whole 10m. It's not something you'll notice just by looking, but it can and will screw you over at one point or another.

      @@atpyro7920 Shiptool has Bungo's vertical dispersion at only 5m worse than Yamato's at 21 km. And I don't believe that includes the spotter plane gimmick. With that, it should be better.

    You did aim high on the Moskva. 7:25 The X marker on the minimap is a bit past the Moskva's bowline. But yeah the aiming system is also buggy, you can see how much the X twitches around before that. 10:25 I think that was actually the good ol' shells falling short bug, here the X was spot on on top of the Thunderer when you fired...

      When he fired the volley the X was a bit high but the Moskva turned out as the shells were in the air so I think they still went higher than they should. That being said the fact that there is a aiming bug just messes with your head

      @@RushyoRifle Turning out doesn't necessarily mean that the target is going further away immediately. That's because ships "drift" as they turn, causing the stern of the ship actually coming closer to you momentarily, and the middle staying roughly at the same distance for a while. The effect this has depends on the distance to the target, as well as the size of the target ship.
      The Moskva wasn't that far away and it's a fairly big ship, so in the time that it took the shells to get there, turning out didn't really cause the Moskva's midsection to go any further away. It might actually even have come a bit closer, which would cause shells aimed a bit too high to go even more high, possibly mostly hitting the superstructure.

      @@wombat4191 Except the shells hit at the front turrets so that part would be moving further away since ships tend to "pivot" at their center of mass which is more toward the stern, this is why "port rounding" works. The Moskva was 17km away about a 10 second time to target that is enough time.

    You need to adjust where you think the waterline is on ships and aim a bit lower as most of your shots are aimed high, its more noticeable on broadside targets, you can see the crosshair ride up from the waterline quickly up the ship right after you fire which is the easiest way to spot high shooting. Your aim prediction is better on turns so its definitely a crosshair placement issue.

    There's a lot of complaining about aim bug, but what actually happens?
    6:00 shells look good, but they overpen instead. Don't think that's aim bug. just unfortunate.
    6:25 some shell do splash low, but this is IJN dispersion so that does happen, especially at these closer ranges. Three shells actually hit the citadel, but look at the angle on the minimap. The spotted plane view makes the Edin look a lot more broadside than it actually is. 3 hits that would have been cits if Edin was angled less, but the bounces are reasonable.
    7:32 aim line is basically touching the bow of the Moskva, but the Moskva never turns perfectly broadside even at the moment the shell hits. In fact, if you look at the aim point on the minimap the moment PQ fires, the X is very clearly above the Moskva's path of travel. That's not aim bug, that's just aiming too high against a ship that is closing the distance.
    8:47 3 shots in succession. First shot is truly unfortunate, second gets a cit, third is aimed high. Again, the Moskva is slightly closing the distance here. Notice how when he fired the second shot that got a cit, the point of aim was below the waterline? He moves his aim up at every shot, by the third one you can literally see his crosshair above the Moskva's waterline at the bow, yet the minimap shows Moskva still slightly closing the distance.
    9:16 Again, look at the minimap. The Thunderer is not moving tangent to his range. The Thunderer's range at the time of impact is less than the range at time of fire, so the point of aim must be below the waterline at the time of firing. PQ's crosshair is visibly above waterline already here, and it's also somewhat visible on the minimap. He does appear to believe Thunderer is continuing the turn, "Thunderer's going broadside" so this is less a miss and more a failed prediction since we can see the Thunderer cancelling the turn.
    10:24 is the opposite of the earlier issues. We can see from the minimap Thunderer is opening the range, while PQ is aiming right at waterline. It looks very questionable, but comparing the direction he was pointing on the minimap as PQ fired before Thunderer went dark and where Thunderer was pointing after it was spotted again, there's a not insignificant course change. At 20km with a 10s travel time, and Thunderer's excellent rudder shift, again, not a super egregious miss.
    11:00 is a rough one. But PQ is shooting at a Colbert 25km away. It just turns too fast. Yes, I know it look like he aimed insanely high, but going back frame by frame, I placed my cursor on the exact spot on the minimap where he fired his last shot, which was the highest as he moved his aim higher each shot. The ship icon didn't even touch the point of my cursor. The turning circle is just too small for that range, it was a legitimate dodge/failed prediction.
    The only truly questionable result here in my opinion is shot 1 on the Moskva at 8:47.

    On someones suggestion I started using HE with the Adatara early in the game then switching to AP. That seemed to help damage output. The HE is actually decent.

    What's with WG pumping out the new ships recently?
    In the past year WG has added about 70 ships to the game. (That's counting since mid-october 2022)

    27 of those are premiums -- which is an average of 2.25 premiums per month. (most of them high tier too)
    And I have definitely missed a few here and there.
    This game has about 620 ships in it, that's a lot to keep track of.
    Imagine being a new player just trying to learn the game, and ships in it...
    And yes those 620 ships are not all bundled into one tier. But you're also not playing only one tier.
    In conclusion I know games like this need fresh content regularly, but this is ridiculous!
    And there's plenty more on the horizon, Japanese battle cruisers, and Soviet submarines are still on the way.
    And it doesn't help that everything is aggressively monetized.
    I'm not sure what I've accomplished with this rant, I just wanted to get these numbers off my chest.
    Oh and I almost forgot about super ships! in total there's 18 with 2 more currently in development.

    @21:30 My entire experience in the Vermont (since you briefly compared them). Still full pens is better than shatters, I suppose. However unfortunate your salvos might have been, this new line seems interesting.

    As someone who greatly enjoys the accuracy of the guns on the Repulse, I find the gameplay part to be very painful like having 10 guns compared to just 6 and seeing the dispersion to be soooo good ... only to warp in a portal and come out high or low all of a sudden. it's very heartbreaking.
    At least with the Repulse you get a ton more reward with hitting a game-winning citadel on a Hosho at 19km with just the front 2 guns with only 12 seconds left on the clock.
    Edit: as Sealord noted, despite being 457mm, the damage is actually closer to 406mm than Yamato's 460. Just WG things 🤷

    I think it's not about huge devastating strikes like a Vermont, more about precision (yeah not best video to demonstrate it) and dpm. You can't get the Vermont alpha and the mobility and the reload and the dispersion. It seems rather balanced to me

    Its time to buff cruiser armor to 32mm. Its just frustrating to go in a mogami and end up in a ONLY tier X except one tier VIII.
    Would realy appreciate when the MM would be changed so that there are more low tier ships than hightier or at least no games that are this extreme. Playing against higher tier ships is ok but not when all of them are 2 tier above you and all bbs have 457mm or higher.
    Beeing this squichy makes the games sooo passive.
    Still ngl i like the new line and looking forward to playing them myself

      Nah, game is just overdue for a 1 tier spread. Think about how T7-T9 is literally the biggest difference in game given that most T7s are still early and prewar designs/concepts facing the start of end/postwar designs

    I think a lot of the bad salvos in the video were because: Cruisers with low/small citadel (Edinburgh - altough the second salvo with 3 ricochets was absurd lol) and and against battleships the guns dont penetrate a lot

    The paint jobs and some upgrades increase dispersion as well, maybe thats the mechanic we're seeing

    Try using the spotter camera and it might improve aiming a lot. I think what might be happening is that your aim was off - moving the reticle slightly lower on your screen translate to a sizable difference in where you are actually aiming. Bungo is so accurate that it really shows where you are actually aiming.

    I feel your pain, I thought it was just me? The times I fire at broadside ships and think "this is going to blow him/her out of the water" only for the shells to straddle the ship, so frsutrating.

      Historically, IJN planned to apply 460 or 480mm main gun on their late 88 fleet battle cruisers, and the caliber such as 457mm was never been used.

    Over pens on BBs should NOT be a thing. *edit=> Especially when you hit the freeboard. WG is essentially saying that you sent a shell completely through 100' of battaleship armor for nearly no damage when using the USS Massachusetts as an example.

      Yes. High AND low. The aiming bug will however send your entire salvo short or over the target like you saw in the video.

    tinfoil hat time but i think i get a correlation between the opponent's PR and how many citadels they take when they go full broadside. the more red they are the less citadels i get and the vice versa if they are purple

    Can you try a secondary build? Ok this is a ijn bb/battlecruiser, and its not exactly fast, but the 140mm secondaries have a better dispersion then the schlieffen, and the 100mm have fire rate, + your citadel is well protected. Its worth a shot in my opinion.

      No. Almost no sec. build is better than tank build for BBs in randoms. Only on one line is it worth it and thats Schlieffen line.

You can have a Total of 14 secondary on targhet, + the 10 457mm guns with the plane, It might work pretty well, in the right situation. Sure, It Will not have the melting Power of a schlieffen, but might be somethink interesting.

      ​@@kamilbanicki2533Japanese BBs were always strong secondary builds (though not top tier) before the commander rework. Particularly Yamato, Kii and Nagato.
      I used to enjoy Ashitaka AP secondaries too before they were changed to al HE - if you don't know the casemate fired AP and the deck guns HE.

    Dispersion ellipse appears to be vertical rather than horizontal. This might account for your short-long groupings.

    The game has been throwing my salvos off too - I’ll aim waterline and get a tight dispersion going way long or way short. Like, multiple ship widths short.
    It’s happened enough that I’m reasonably certain it’s not my aiming, and the enemies weren’t doing any crazy jukes either, salvos have just been going way off target lately.
    Don’t know what’s up, but the game is going nuts.

      The game is a digital skinner box. Where you aim has almost no influence on the outcome of your salvos. Think about it this way: IF WGing could manipulate RNG to increase revenue by increasing how addictive the game is (which they literally have a patent for), do you think there is any chance that WGing would not use RNG manipulation to increase revenue?

      Dispersion doesn't send your entire salvo short or over the target. It DISPERSES it.

    I will point out it’s not a regular dispersion pattern; it’s the same as every other IJN BB including Yamato. So maybe the bad vertical dispersion could explain some salvos. But certainly disappointing.

    I had to check: Despite being 457mm, they have significantly less pen than Yamato, Georgia, Ohio and even teh 420s and the 406s on the GK and Soyuz. Kind of disappointing really.

    So the insane sigma and horizontal dispersion is balanced out by bad vertical dispersion and low pen at range.
    I guess it makes sense.

    Aiming is super wonky nowadays. Used to be able to look at minimap circle to correct for going high or low. Doesn’t work anymore recently.

    The vertical dispersion on Bungo is the worst of any tier 10 BB. It may look good but the shells are not likely to hit the citadel, although they will go into the superstructure every time because the overall accuracy is good. Play a Slava and you won't have this problem because Slava has vertical dispersion that is more accurate than DD's
