What a contrast to the earliest Nissans. Or Datsuns as they were then They were reliable and came with all the extras but were terrible rust buckets. They used to say a Datsun didn't so much rust as dissolve.

My neighbour used to have a 92 model Sunny 1.3 5-door hatch. The car never skipped a beat, completely faultless until the bitter end. It even outlived it's owner by about 3 years. It was eventually totalled by his grandson in 2013, who was able to roll it after hitting a curb in the city centre (while drunk).

The equivalent sentra range in the US in 1991 was highly regarded as opposed to this drab review, and the 140hp SER was a scorcher in those days. It was considered the poor man's BMW and even toyota and honda could not keep up with it.

This was known as the Pulsar here in Australia, it was built in Nissan's Australian factory in Melbourne from late 1991 to October 1992, when the factory closed, and the Pulsar was fully imported from Japan from 1993.

    • @sp19822

@@comfy_rwds Also we had the mid range Pulsar Q variant with those two engine choices, in 1993 after the factory closure and the switch to the imported range the Q variant was dropped, but demand saw it reinstated as a limited edition model in 1993, then back full time in 1994.
We also had the keyless entry with immobiliser and alarm on the 2.0 variants, that got the axe with the switch to the imported model.

A shame it wasn't well-received by the market, being, along with the Protege (323), outsold by Corolla and Civic at higher prices for no real reason.

I don't know why everyone says these are dull to drive. My 1.4i handles really well, has a sweet gearbox, is comfortable to drive and is fairly quick. The reliability of these fine motors is really what wins you over, they just keep going, and if rust is treated correctly, can really last. I don't find mine boring to drive at all, very responsive and lively.

I drive the company's old sunny, i think its 95 to 98 model. 1.6 cc.
I dont know about rust , they wouldnt mention something i guess
Im 1.85 and i feel comfortable in it, kinda hard to get off though.
The steering wheel has some issues, its kinda stiff and thats a major disadvantange in slow speeds.. But hey its an old car.
Now what i wanted to say is that the gear box is a perfect match for the engine, ive never driven a car that works so smooth..
For an 20yo car its still fast, light, medium grip but accelerates like wind.
I get that feel like im flying in it, i like it... They should make cars like this again..

Only officially. In reality both imperial & metric are used & both are taught at school. In the early 1990's a middle aged & upwards generation would of only been comfortable with imperial units & Chris Goeffey would have been taught only in imperial. In 2018 younger people often use both interchangeably. Metric was encouraged by EU membership but I think it's significantly well ingrained now that Brexit will not see a return to imperial units.
