It takes like a thousand years to make a video, but while you're watching the video you know why it's so late, 1000% quality
The real advantage of paper money is boosting someone to imp and then getting the tech to boost everyone else to imp
Hmm. A full on Feudal age sling would've done just that. And you wouldn't need to waste stone on a Castle in the first place.
@@anirudhviswanathan3986 A full feudal age sling only does something for 1 maybe 2 allies. The other way everyone can get to imp and no one loses anything in the end from slinging
Wait
You here?
But we always need meat to get to imp....
Not gold and not only 500gold.
and vietnamese never do a fast imp castle drop to get to imp earlier.
This tech need too much meat also.
This strategy seems useless in most of situations.
@@Linearsteps Put it this way, this tech lets your team buy 500 gold worth of food in castle age each while still having the gold to go Imp. That could easily net you 300-600 food in an average game.
Since this is the last civ overview theres only one thing to do...
Start over since many have had huge changes since your start!

The Vietnamese feel like they were designed by a completely different team than the rest of the Rise of the Rajas civs. A newer, much less experienced team that faced Britons on Black Forest one too many times.
Elite Skirmisher: has a metal helmet and metal shield, with proper armor - 4 Pierce armor
Rattan Archer: wears a loose shirt and a straw hat - 6 Pierce armor
#justaoethings
Rattan is a labour-intensive form of reed armour, when hardened and lacquered it can reputedly resist steel weapons. A favourite of the South East Asian armies due to it's prevalence and ease of wear in the hot and humid climate, it remained in use until the early 20th century, where some Southern Chinese militias still incorporated rattan shield and sword troops.
Don't forget the small shield on their arm. Clearly deserves 6 pierce armor.
Rattan shield is also lighter than a metal shield, which means blocking missile becomes easier
Don't forget the man at arms. Plate armor - 0 melee armor
+ buckler
Ah yes, Achilles and Éomer, best skirms/genitours ever

I am glad you got the last of the civ video done.
I have watched every single one now, and have been looking foward to this one for a long time. THANK YOU SPIRIT OF THE LAW!
I believe their reveal enemy starting location bonus is considered as an indirect economy bonus that helps at laming. With Vietnamese you don't have the risk wasting time searching for the enemy if you want a quick boar steal - you can right away go for the lame. Maybe that is the intended eco bonus: having a better chance of getting 2 more boars than your opponent.

5:30 Gaia civ overview confirmed???
Get over yourself, A.I. ;)
I would unironically love this and would be my favourite video.
Elite Mangudai and Camel Archers both have 8 base damage, which with +4 through various technologies, will result in doing 12 damage, which does 2 damage through Rattan Archers total of 10 pierce armor.
We need a new expansion for Spirit to review it for us
Shame you didn't mention the 96 HP Cavalry Archers.
Although they miss Parthian Tactics and Husbandry, thanks their HP they are very pop efficient units (like you make CA with Persians even you miss Bracer).
In the Castle Age the Cav Archers have no draw back, in fact they have more HP there than everyone else's.
Now the revealed locations kinda make sense and for the blood lines you have to build stable, that helps transition into elephants later.
I never would have thought about their CA.. that is definitely something he should have mentioned/ this makes them almost as good as siphi cav archer
No Husbandry is simply awful. Also, unlike Persians you can't lean too much on them as they don't have good, fast cavalry meatshield.
I can't really see anything they're good against that you couldn't defeat with Archers and Rattans. Of course, screwing around with enemy villagers may be a good options, but your opponent will wait with anti-archer stuff anyway.
They are mobile and population efficient, they may not be resource wise efficient, but pop yes
Like they are your biggest HP archers you have, so with the same numbers against something else they win.
Of course except some raiding early, they doesen't make much difference before late game, but people may oversee this option and I making them know it is there.
@@Chenla Maybe it's just my personal playstyle, but I apart from their speed, I never found cav archers any specific use that other units couldn't accomplish just as well. Except for killing villagers quickly, but most of my opponents usually defend their economy by the time I get there with cavalry archers, and I do the same. If I want some eco damage done, I go for scouts or archers (sometimes a skirmisher-pike combo) and go for it in Feudal.
finally! thank you so much, I've been waiting for my favourite civ overview for so long!
Spirit you made my day yesterday. I was looking forward to this civ overview since The Rise of the Rajas was released. Great work!!!
Just had a match where I kited elite Rattans pretty effectively against Cavaliers. That extra speed is pretty valuable. I think with proper micro they're not all that bad against Cavalry. Or maybe my opponent was just clicking my units instead of patrol/attack move.
Congrats on 4 years :) Love AOE and your style!
Your videos are fantastic, I've really enjoyed watching them all. I really appreciate your attention to detail and the obvious effort you've put into making these overviews. Thank you, and please keep making more videos!
Hold on, did deer just attack that arbalest at 5:34?
Seem to get a rough time by the pros for not being a good civ but I find them super effective. Especially the imp skirms!
Think it’s time for a re due for some of these civs! With all the new balance changes
I’m really excited about Vietnamese and their Imperial Skirmishers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY spirit of the law !!!!! Subscribed since the dark age of japanese video ^^ love the overviews, love the math explanation, can't wait for the next birthday ;D
OMfkingG, here we are. I love you so much SotL.
Edit: After finish watching the whole video, I think when you give the Vietnamese A- on the archer line, you're forgeting the Carvary Archer with Bloodline and extra Hp (of course they do not get the Imperial upgrade for extra armor and extra damage to pikeman but the extra Hp make up for it anyway). I think they deserve an A because not only foot archer, carvary archer of them is really stand out and have a place for them.
No husbandry takes a lot out of cav archers though. No easy hit and run.
Congrats for completing all civs review...i have an idea for ur further videos...make videos on heroes in various campaigns, their fights in battle, last stands of heroes etc etc....waiting for that series✌️👍

Haha “Eomir makes this look so easy” very good LOTR reference. I actually had to think for a minute about which scene you were referring to.
Well done as always =)
Thanks for the review!
An idea to give the Vietnamese a buff: cheaper military buildings. This would be a mild boost to their Feudal Age, and would be pretty good later on. They do really need some sort of eco bonus, and so far we don't have any civs that have a direct discount on Barracks, Stables, etc. (except Malians, but theirs is for all non-Farm buildings).
Just let Vietnam have Hand cannon.. We already have it in Le Loi time
Vietnamese basically don't have Stables and Barracks and their Siege Workshops are average at best so...
Cheaper Archery Ranges?
Even if you give them a 50% discount that is, like, 50 wood in Feudal and 50 more in Castle
Then you're getting a whole lotta value out of it in Imperial...the time where wood is in thousands
Seems quite bad, innit?
@@The-jy3yq Since Definitive Edition they have economic upgrades cost no wood... Giving them a final bonus of about 1500 I think in terms of wood saved based upon only missing the second Gold Mining upgrade which really you don't get anyway (better to get both stone mining & only the first gold mining).
1:04
Vietnamese had lightsaber!
You learn something new everyday
In HCMC we have Stark Tower
Google Bitexco Tower, you'll find it
btw it was just the intro, no relation with them in there actually...
congratz on covering all civz!
I like them, I even got them in the revised version of the "best for you" even though I was aiming for Chinese
I'm a bit sad you didn't mention the vietnamese bombard tower and how it can change the gaming dynamics for this civ. personally, this one tech changes my entire mindset on vietnamese and just seems like such an interesting boost and almost a spice-up. it enables bbt pushing, and with archers and elephants, entire line of infantry, and they're always nice to have.
I’m a great fan of Imperial Skirmishers.
play as Aztecs with Viet ally.. Atlatl Imperial skirmishers!!
Great series, watched every one of them! Would love to see you go back and update the early ones to include "Grades" :-)
I’ve noticed you’ve made several videos comparing units that are similar to each other (i.e gbetto vs throwing axeman, samurai vs champion) and they fair in different situations. I was wondering if you’d be interested in doing a more in-depth comparison between other units that have a similar roles compared to other units. The ones that come to mind are the Jaguar Warriors vis-à-vis the Teutonic Knights vis-à-vis the Champion vis-à-vis the Samurai (maybe the Huskarl too). Another one could be the Paladin vis-à-vis Boyar and Cataphract. Just food for thought. Great video as always! Keep up the good work!
Side note
When paired with the Turks
- Turks do not get the imperial skirmisher.
Contrast to when the Berbers are paired with the Turks
- Giving the Turks access to Genitour
They really should get this unique tech:
Guerilla warfare: archers, skirmishers, and rattan archers can move through trees but cannot attack when standing among trees.
That could be busted on Black Forest
They allied themselves with the lorax
1400th like was from me! :D Love your vids SotL.

Historically speaking, we Vietnamese got our hands on firearms quite early so I wonder if that's the reason why they went with the anti archer design
