I kayaked around Boot Key in January (2023). From Sombrero Beach it's a leisurely 2.5 hr trip. The waters are shallow and on a pleasant day the paddling is almost effortless.
The area where the submarine and abandoned boats are is isolated and spooky. I've been told there was drug smuggling going on there in the past and still squatters in the area, so I didn't stick around.

I’ve been curious about that Key. Thanks for letting me know that’s it’s not too bad of a paddle out. I’ll have to plan to do that next time we’re in the keys. I do want to see the sub even if it’s really fast. I remember reading up on it. If I remember correctly a guy transported it there from up north??? Crazy story!

Definitely a beautiful beach! We haven't actually thought about going to Florida once we hit the road, but your video may change our minds! Dolphins are such amazing creatures.... Such stunning scenery and the weather looks gorgeous... (we are in WI and so tired of cold and snow) LOL Nice share guys!! 💙Terry and Terri

@TerryX2Explore, I stumbled upon your comment here and wanted to share my thoughts.
There's Florida, and then there is The Keys; I do not think of them as the same. I have been going to the Florida Keys for nearly two decades, where I have mostly stayed in Marathon Key because it is central to the upper and lower keys. I consider The Keys to be the "Gateway to the Caribbean!" When you visit The Keys, don't think of it as a "beach" but rather an "island" getaway. You will get a sense that time has truly slowed to a crawl and you will enjoy every moment of it. Sombrero Beach has always been a must-stop for us. We enjoy the Sister Creek side of the park because of the palm trees and the calmer water that you can float around in with a cold beverage. There are all kinds of water activities. Mine personally is snorkeling and kayak/paddle boarding through the mangroves. Both of these experiences are like visiting another world, all in one place. So, if you haven't made the trip yet, and you're looking for some advice, hit me up!

Alligators are strictly fresh water, and the American crocodile is mostly confined to a preserve in Key Largo and is a timid, non-aggressive reptile.

FLORIDA KEYS CUDJOE KEY AND KEY WEST --- INEPT JUSTICE SYSTEM 2 years ago I showed a gun to a men who was coming over the fence clearly attacking me , seconds before he got on top of fence attacker told me------ I am gonna get you M F .... Attacker has criminal history , but I was arrested .I have absolutely clean record and concealed weapons license .They are dragging me thru courts , meanwhile attacker got arrested 5 weeks ago again for battery and criminal mischief --- he hit 64 year old women in the head and thru her phone to ocean because she started to videotape his aggressive behavior .LAW IS CRAZY IN AMERICA ,they PROSECUTE PEOPLE WHO DEFEND THEMSELVES AND GIVE NO PUNISHMENT TO HABITUAL CRIMINALS .Incident happened in Florida Keys state attorney is denis ward .His prosecutor is saying it is impossible to climb that fence , me a 59 year old men created video where I climbed on top of that fence in 3 seconds , this is the kind of fools we have in justice system . I have posted video of climbing fence here on CZcams under incompetent law enforcement justice system Florida keys czcams.com/video/FifRBQfUbeE/video.html ON APRIL 3 2022 ATTACKER WAS ARRESTED FOR ATTACKING 64 YEAR OLD WOMEN IN KEY WEST FLORIDA AND NOW IS AWAITING TRIAL .THIS IS HOW UNPROFFESIONAL PEOPLE ARE IN CHARGE OF JUSTICE SYSTEM IN FLORIDA KEYS . State attorney denis ward is in charge of prosecutors in this case and he had been warned how wrongfully this case is handled .I am unable to testify in case of an attack on women because I am being prosecuted !!!!! ( for defending myself ) - HERE IS CHAIN REACTION AND CONSEQUENCE OF A WRONG ARREST AND PROSECUTION .I am contacting every authority to investigate this IDIOCRACY and demand removal of state attorney denis ward from office but system is not very responsive . HELP !!! denis ward is just a shrewd politician he gets elected by creating media stunts and because local radio is giving him air time but same radio station will deny it to his critics .

I think it might have been a ray. I've seen rays in this part of the park. They frequent shallow water and will cause quite a splash when startled. My experience is manatees never cause splashing; they're too sedate.
