I'd love a video that goes over functions and settings for transmitters! Rates, throttle curves, trims, etc.
One thing that really helped my at-home setup was finally installing a wall mount shelving rack. For about 60$ at home depot i got two vertical rails and 12 supports, mounted them 6in apart and i have 6 cars above my pc / wrench station. Easy access but keeps my work area free for other junk lol
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble czcams.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

going this weekend for the second time to test and tune my brand new xray cb2c-22.
this is a cool video as i slowly worked during the week on my hobby table to get it more organised and easy to fiddle on my cars.
I know this is a year old however.....Don't forget to get a pair of Curved Ball Link Pliers. The cheap ones from amazon work really good (the yellow and black handle) worked great on my losi 22 5.0 and left no scuffs or scratched. I was careful however and not careless. The tables have REALLY come down in price.....you can get a BASIC table and add the bamboo curved top for 299.00 if you look carefully. the links in the description still work. The Allen screwdriver set is GREAT! I bought the HRB brand

Some tools I used in the 80's and 90's (when we used to solder connect the batteries and motors for every run) were forceps, a curved pair and a straight pair, they have come in handy recently as well. I keep them with me at all times now. My next favorite tool is a magnet on the end of small telescoping type sleeve, great for grabbing dropped screws in type spaces or removing items that I clean in a jar, sonic cleaner, something similar. My dad would always take old used / damaged tools, like screwdrivers, and grind the tips down to various sized points, these were great for digging and scraping dirt out of screws and crevices, though an Exacto knife can be easily used to do the same thing (I'm particular about keeping Exacto blade pints sharp so I tend not to use them for this, I've broken many points doing so.

Nice bike. Thanks for the tip on the 1/4 bits. I use mostly wera tools, but they don’t do a long 1.5mm driver. Added to basket.
Robitronic 1/8 transportbag with wheels, an expandable handle to pull it, different size drawers to put your stuff in from the side and a lid compartment to put your tools, rolled up pitmat and setup board in.
It may not be something to take on a plane, but I have found the Hart brand tool boxes very useful. The one I use to carry my 1/10 race truck splits in the middle and has two small compartments on top. Very cool video Ryan! 🤘

I’ve had my MIP screwdrivers probably before you were born. In fact it was before E. Moore bought the company from Thorp. It was 3 sizes back then, 2mm, 2.5, and a 3. I bought the 2.5 twice one standard hex the other ball. Thought I’d lost them but they surfaced after a dormant period of RC car-ing… Back to it , rock crawling. That desk nice …the foam car stands definitely need a few of those…

Everything in one place. Only down side is there are heavier for flying with depending on your airline weight limit. Uk (23kg) but i have had nothing break whilst travelling so far.

Something I carry, is a couple of cheap dental picks from Harbor Freight. One straightish and one hooked. Great for picking dirt and doesn't break like exacto knife tips.
similarly enough i always keep a broken hex bit for digging dirt out of chassis bolts! Doesnt harm the hex and clears it out fast.

@@extec101 definitely, I’ve started back up again but I’m still using Nimh battery’s, I still need to research lipo, I even take a 27mhz transmitter as a spare, just in case.
I definitely like to make my equipment last, and it feels good when you win races on vintage or dated equipment
@@arrenlambert1486 running lipo is no problen if a good charger with lipo mode is used and safety bag is used.
other then that is the old ESCs dont got lipo cutof that tells when you got a low volt in the lipo as those dont like to be drained all the way down as Nimh.

I use the electic driver and speed tips due to health issues, I also buy tubular hollow magnets for my speed tips that slot on the shafts and it magnetizes every shaft and when removing screws I just stick them to the magnet for safe keeping
I have two set of tools, a full set in my race bag, a set on my desk plus i carry a few extra loaner tools in my race bag. There are some tools on my desk that only go in the race bag when needed. I have an onroad bag and an off-road bag and just swap the drivers and electric drawers (charger, batteries, connectors soldering iron) between the two bags.
I will end up with an on road and off road controller because I have forgotten to swap that occasionally

I just bought a used b6.1 and the rear hubs are schelle brand, every time I tighten the wheel onto the axle it starts to like grind. On both sides. I push the axle thru the hole, then put the pin in, put the hex on and clamp it down. It spins perfectly. As soon as I tighten the tire on it starts to bind really bad like the hex is getting pushed into the bearing. I tried putting a washer under the pin and still the same thing happens. It does this on both sides. I just got back into the hobby and got this car today. Well the racing part of the hobby, ive had bashers for years.
I really do need to finally get a soldering iron hat I can take with me.
One of the tracks I race at actually had a charge rate limit of 10 amps for a time because a couple people threw a fit about "possible" cheating. The charger bit reminded me of that. I don't if any other tracks do or ha e done it, but it was a one off thing that happened at my local track.

I've found the electric screwdriver is a life saver for me personally as i have early stages of arthritis, using hand drivers become quite painful for me.

I skip the drivers that come with handles and go right for the speed tips. I have a set of 6 speed tips, 3 hex and 3 sockets, I use for wrenching on my cars and I swap them back and forth between my electric driver or my stubby ratcheting handle depending on what I'm working on. It's a way more flexible setup that's cheaper and takes up less space.

I wish my bench was that clean but my fault. On another note, it would be cool to see stuff you take to the track and how you pack it all with some of the newer stuff you added? (drive and fly version). I also saw where you purchase tires in bulk I think on one video, assume this is a sponsorship deal., if not any tips to go about this. I had an original RC10 I found in my attic and got the bug, oh how things have changed. I bought a few new vehicles and would like to get a variety from the start. The last question is how many battery packs you normally take to the track and how many you use. I know this may vary on the which classes you run. This also assumes you use the same brand and size battery for each of the following classes but not limited to: 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy, 2wd SC, 2wd truggy. Keep up the good work.

great videos! I have been out of rc racing for 10-12 years and I sat last night and watched every video you put out!
How far do you drive to the track? My closest track is Hobbyplex Indiana which is 2hours out which is a drag, we use to have two tracks within 20 mins of me back in the nitro days however nitro seems dead.
Either way great videos , you make me miss RC racing and the people.

Hey Ryan got a question for you - out at the track, what’s the typical table size people use for pit tables. Talking about tracks where you might bring a canopy and set up for the day. Looking at 4’ and 6’ and don’t want over kill but also want to have enough space.

Tools wise, yes all are fine - maybe no need for such an expensive electronic screwdriver….but having some version of an electronic screwdriver helps as some folks get pains in their fingers/thumbs from constantly screwing stuff in and out.
Don’t need such a fancy table - really up to you, most of us make do with any table or old pc desk - as long as it’s big enough. Some use their dining table and just clear up afterwards.
Don’t need a pit mat or set-up board if all you’re doing is building kits rather than actually race stuff - the pit mat helps stop stuff eg screws rolling off the table and onto the floor. I both race and build kits and use an old towel - does exactly the same job and didn’t cost me anything lol. The pit board you will only need if building and racing an Rc car. There are times you will need a flat level surface for doing balancing etc etc ….otherwise again not needed.
When at home a good lighting system is needed so you can really see what you’re doing.
Look around as sometimes you can get deals on certain tools….lastly don’t buy everything in one go…just see what you need first and go from there, otherwise you’ll end up going crazy, spending loads and buying stuff you won’t need.
E.g Soldering iron is only used for soldering connectors to batteries, esc wires etc so again, if you’re not bothered by doing all, that yet, don’t spend the money until you’ve done some homework first.
I started off like you and now 4yrs later have got mostly all I need - but I took my time and bought stuff as and when I needed it.

Hey Ryan, I recently got into buggy racing but I have had confusion with what to charge my reedy 2s zappers at. They are a 4800 and a 6100. The 4800 is a 115C and the 6100 is an 85C. I usally charge both of them at 2.8Amps but my question is, how many amps is considered a “safe” charge rate?

It is best practice to charge your batteries at 1C. For example: 4800mah would be charged at 4.8A and the 6100 @ 6.1A. But, I charge my batteries at the track @ 2C with no problems and of course it is twice as fast. Hope this helps!

@@MadManFPV Yes! Also, I have another question. I have a reedy 5.5T with a reedy 510Blackbox esc and a DX5C remote. However when I give my car full throttle, it takes like 2 or 3 seconds for my car to reach full speed. I tried a re calibration for throttle endpoints but I still have the same problem. Any ideas as to why my cars full speed isn’t instant when I hit the full throttle on my remote?
Has it always been like this? Reason I ask; Spectrum TX/RX have been known to have latency issues. Do you have any other transmitters to try? I recommend FlySky TX/RX and know a lot of speed runners use this or the Futaba (expensive!!). I started with Spektrum when they first came out with the 2.4Ghz radios for both surface and in the air and it was great to be able to fly and drive with others and not worry about loosing signal, but there always seemed to be “other” reasons for crashing…lol I no longer use Spektrum even if it comes with an RTR vehicle. I have tried and they always seem to fail or fall short of what I need/want. MAYBE another viewer on here will have the knowledge of how to manipulate the settings and get you up and running right. If you stick with the hobby (and you should!) it might be time to invest into a new TX and RX ecosystem. Whatever help I can give you…I will be around!!
