Crooke Village on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal

Crooke Village, on the outskirts of Wigan in Lancashire, was originally a coal-mining depot on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, but has now become a peaceful, picturesque, white-walled hamlet. Archive images from Wigan Archives Service help tell the history of Crooke, and the work of the Crooke Village Residents Association displays the community spirit that characterises the village today.
