Best movie ever, showing grim reality of India as a nation. Loved each and every character of the movie. Ashutosh Sir, take a bow for this poignant masterpiece.

We forget to mention and give credit to Kaveri Amma in the movie. She was the binding factor throughout. An intelligent yet simple woman, A woman with conviction and understanding of life in its most simplistic manner. She carries the whole movie and She is the reason all of this happened in Mohan's life. His coming back, his staying back and him finding his love. The love for his land and the love of his life. Every character is vital in this movie. Gita was brilliant as well. SRK showed us how well he can act. GEM!!!

Swades - probably SRK's finest film. No overacting or jerky head movements. Great film. I wish he'd do something with a great script to show off his fine acting skills, rather than that old massala stuff.

@@Goodvibezz007 London. White British male. 69yrs old. Saw "Om Shanti Om" on TV about 12yrs ago, loved it. Caught up on about a dozen of his other films & then loads of other Indian & Bollywood films on Virgin, CZcams & DVD. I watched about 40 during lockdown. I think I know all the actors now ! Lol. I've got about 25 DVDs. Also like other foreign films - Korean etc.

A movie wayyy ahead of its time! A very mature conversation between an NRI and a rooted indian about the country and it's problems from their very own perspectives and the best part is, how much ever diverse their views be, they never fail to respect the other's POV, which has become quite rare in the current scenario

Though Saif is very good actor BUT chosen for National award for "Hum Tum" over SRK for Swadesh is quite indigestible for me still..🤔
Because swadesh had not done well on the box office..we Indians were not ready for this kind of movie at that time. Now people crave for content driven film but before mostly people love romantic and commercial movies.

Today people do give awards to underrated movies / critical acclaimed movies but back then box office result play a very important role.
Srk had performed exceptionally brilliant in the movie but its a harsh truth that people have not recieved Swadesh well call it boring n all that stuff. As the evolution of cinema happened people now consider it a gem💎.
Same happened with ashoka now everybody is doing periodic drama but srk had done movies which ahead of their times.
He must got national award that time.... they r awarded to Saif Ali Khan for Hum Tum..... I think that time his mom was president of national Film awards.

They're afraid that movies now represent our country on foreign platforms, with the ease of Internet. So the image will be bad.
And a perfectly good imagine may be a little dishonesty, but that is needed for the outside people to atleast visit once.
But here's the thing, if they're gonna watch Indian movies a social issue movie is not the only one they're going to watch. And infact, a lot of social issue movies are coming which educate audiences and are fun. Like Mimi was about Surrogacy that you should get proper contracts and stuff beforehand.

Beautiful movie... Shah rukh was the only "star" in the movie... yet when u watch it.. u realise its Mohan not Shah rukh.
Every character is so well defined/performed/ unforgettable... from the chai wala boy to Kaveriamma to postmaster to melaram to chiku to the dalit kids... even the smallest character could be understood n loved. No bad or good people... just society the way it is. It shows hope...

Yes but he himself didn’t implement the thing he talks about. Population control. As he himself said he’s not interested in such preachy movies. He didn’t expect it to do well and went back to doing his commercial movies. It’s his best performance unlike KJo movies. Credit goes to Bollywoods best director Ashutosh Gowariker
Don't get so carried away. It is a film. He has been directed to act like that. His voice modulation is called dubbing. All this happens with several takes, retakes to get the voice right etc. So every artist is good in his or her own way. Some become stars some don't. That's all.
@@archanaaachindarkar3544 actors need base acting knowledge to act like that and SRK is the best in it. Core acting talent. Has tons of experiences from theater and small screens. There isn't any dubbing necessary for direct shots. Don't you know that?

Gayatri Joshi was probably the most beautiful actress of Bollywood ever. But since she valued grace more than bold scenes and cheap dances, she did not click like the other heroines of bollywood, who are ready and willing to do anything for fame and money.

Have not seen this movie. Quite amusing to me therefore that the exact same conversation happened between me and my now ex. Except he was not even building satellites. Such simple everyday relatable conversations makes a movie a treat to watch. Will give it a try soon.
