  • Find out if you should be using spring, bottled water, or distilled water on your houseplants. Distilled water doesn't contain harmful minerals like chlorine or fluoride, but it also doesn't contain good minerals. Bottled and spring water does contain good minerals, but you don't always know what's in the water. If you're having problems with brown leaf tips, it's often best to use distilled water and use fertilizer to get needed minerals.

    💚 Good video! 💚 I have an under the sink RO water system. (actually bought it for my orchids) It works great for most houseplants. No brown leaf tips at all. I do use distilled on picky plants like my Myranta (prayer plant)

      Sharon Holmes, Thanks! And thanks for the input. That's a good idea for Myranta. I use a lot of RO water, as well. I have another video coming up that talks about RO water.

    Hi, thank you for this video! Is it ok to use boiled water (fully cooled) to water my indoor plants?

      @taylamekhi6594, You're very welcome. You can use boiled water once cooled. It won't necessarily remove things like fluoride, but it's fine to use. I often use the excess water I've boiled for tea on my houseplants.

    Hi! I love your channel and enjoying learning a lot from you. I do have a question. Distilled water was becoming expensive for me since I have over 180 indoor plants. I purchased a Brita and use my tap water to run thru the to filter the tap water. One thing I did notice is that my humidifiers are less prone to get dirty n I still haven’t cleaned them since over 2 months when I purchased the Brita. Having said that, my question is… is filtered water good for all my plants?

      Ruth Stevens, I'm so glad that you enjoy my channel and are learning a lot! Filtered water is definitely good for all plants, for sure, as it filters out the minerals that can be harmful to them--in particular those that cause brown leaf tips and root dieback, like chlorine and fluoride. You also filter out other minerals that might be helpful to the plant by using the Brita, but those minerals are easily replaced with a good organic fertilizer. I have another video coming up that covers this topic some more, as well. Thanks for watching! :)

      Ruth Stevens, I thought I had answered this one. Sorry about that! I'm glad you enjoy my channel. Yes, filtered water is good to use on all your plants if you can. I did a video on filtered water, which is essentially RO water, as well. czcams.com/video/eu4yBfyYht4/video.html And I also have an extensive watering playlist: czcams.com/play/PLCkPgo-m1DrFbAp1oKjj83QA9N3D95yoq.html

    If you’re using distilled water for a plant year round, how often should fertilizer be added to the water. Also is it suggested to change the plant soil when switching from long use of tap water to distilled?

    • @HealthyHouseplants
      @HealthyHouseplants  Před rokem +1

      Kay, Fertilize monthly spring through fall with an organic fertilizer. Yes, it would be good to change the soil when switching to distilled. Repotting spring through late summer is the best timing.
