  • The opening event for Rewrite, Organize, Remix: Visions of Feminist Organizing features the American Library Association president Emily Drabinski and the climate activist Thanu Yakupitiyage in conversation with the exhibition curator Mimosa Shah.
Shouts of struggle echo through the Schlesinger Library’s collections. Rewrite, Organize, Remix: Visions of Feminist Organizing presents the dynamic stories of groups that mobilized to name and challenge injustice. In the words of the African American feminist poet Pat Parker, revolution is ongoing: “It’s not neat or pretty or quick. It is a long, dirty, painful process.” Over generations, community organizers, artists, students, and thinkers have come together to voice their opposition to oppression, raising banners high for liberation. Rewrite, Organize, Remix illustrates how people convened, learned about, and articulated unique terminologies to define their selves and experiences, and created networks of allies for economic support and social capital. As the program speakers discuss, the exhibition presents materials from the archives that speak both to the solidarity of past movements and moments and to the possibility of inspired change within our own.
Harvard Radcliffe Institute gratefully acknowledges the Helen Blumen and Jan Acton Fund for Schlesinger Library Exhibitions, which is supporting this exhibition.
