You know you've got a bad game on your hands when you're spending more time fighting the controls than the actual in-game enemies.
John is a positive guy, so watching him talk about bad games is great . Great video

Motion controls were reduced to a gimmick that quietly faded away. I do have PS move controllers but I use them for my rail gun games.
My big issue with the move controllers is how long they just recycled the same technology instead of making better VR controls for their headset.
But they didnt, all modern controllers besides the xbox have gyro implimented for those that cant deal with controlling with the stick if u want a finer degree of control (when implimented correctly). All the inside out tracking headsets use early motion tech when dealing with the moment the controllers get out of focus and uses some kind of calculations so it guesses where they went out of focus for a short time which helps for a couple vr motions like shooting a bow. The tech eventually found its uses and never actually faded
The kinect also has good games that really work well with its setup like child of eden which plays pretty well. People always use the worst examples to prove their point but always ignore what actually worked well with these control methods. Ppl may make fun of it, but games like just dance worked best with kinect out of all the control methods becauss the kinect was made to track moving limbs and body parts.

Just Dance 2016 (ten years after the introduction of the Wii) sold over a million copies for the Wii (yes, Wii -- not Wii U), and then continued making them for Wii (Just Dance 2020) until literally Nintendo said they could no longer produce Wii discs in North America! The Wii Balance board sold 32 MILLION at $100 each! Maybe you have no clue?
When I seen the title to this video Steel Battlion instantly came to mine. It sure didn't stand up to the original

I never had these issues. Lol all worked for me. Make sure you're in a room that is not cluttered. And position the Kinect waist high in a well lite room. Don't have a ceiling fan on also. Literally I had zero issues with the games mentioned. But it all depends. Great video as always! Keep it up
I think the bigger issue is that the experience varied so much from person to person. Consoles such as the Wii were easier to setup and typically worked better.
02:27 The way they have the camera footage of the player showing on the Jumbotron is a nice touch and seems well implemented.

I never could get into the Kinect, I tried. I think the Wii did it better and the PS3 move did it better than the Wii, but came out too late and was just considered a Wii copycat by then.
I think the worst part was when they incorporated it into the Xbox One. It added cost to the console at launch, and was a huge mistake in my opinion. By then the majority of people were not wanting motion controlled games.
@@johnhancockretro I've got limited space where I play so I can't get into it as much as I would like. Mostly I like the shooters.
Oh man, a few years ago I picked up Sonic Free Riders, thinking it might be fun to play with my kids. As you can imagine, fun was NOT had by all.
I had Fable - The Journey, and what I thought was an adventure game, had me trotting like a horse for half an hour! I haven't touched it since!

yeah, there were more more bad Kinect games than good ones. A few released were not terrible though.
@@johnhancockretro it was a weird segment in gaming back then but yeah, some games for kids and parties were ok.
I think Microsoft should have worked on their own VR system. I don't know anyone with a Kinnect that is happy with it. Thanks for the video, John.
I know right? I remember being really excited about the Hololens and then it never came out. It honestly would of been a game changer.
@@johnhancockretro HoloLens came out (I have one) and it has some fun games on it. It’s primarily for business use though.

Lol, the only times I have heard others being happy with their kinnect is when I mentioned having fun with a ps move game. They all come out of the woodwork when you show joy towards something different

Great content as usual. Always entertaining. Gotta say the kinect completely passed me by. Was too busy playing FIFA year after year in my 360!! By the sounds of it I didn't miss much.
Thank you! Yeah, I tried a few of the big games for the Kinect and was not impressed at the time. I was playing alot of Halo games at the time.

I kind of liked Kinect Adventures. Enough to get all the achievements anyway! The Gunstringer was probably the best Kinect game that I've tried.
Gun stringer was fun. I also enjoyed that 2d comic book style fighter game. I just bought a new 360 with the kinect from ebay. I'm trying out the whole skylanders collection, and I decided to check out some kinect games again. I always wanted the shape fitness evolved game, too. I tried a tutorial for it and it was a lot of fun punching the blocks. I'm looking into what games to get, and possibly what ones to avoid.

Fighters Uncaged was such a crestfallen experience. I was really hoping to be able to do actual martial arts movements in the fights. Not even close. I still have my Kinect and several games but will agree that only a handful really "worked". Child of Eden, all the Dance Centrals (the wife and will bust that out every year or so and laugh at each other) and a few others. I will say playing Forza Horizons 3, I think 3, with a racing wheel and the Kinect was super fun. It could read your head/shoulders so going into a turn you slightly leaned and the view moved in that direction. Fun stuff!
It was best when I think it complemented control, not the focal point. I have heard Child of Eden was pretty good so I might check that one out.

I played the game Kinect Adventures! and we had great fun with it, also the kids. It was at a hotel free to play. Only for that game, the Kinect is worth to buy for cheap on online market places. Too bad there’s so many bad games apparently, it could have really succeeded! Is there any other good games on the Kinect then?
I had it, had some games. Fruit Ninja Kinect worked perfectly. I had to move furniture to get it to work properly. The best set up I saw was the fake living room that Best Buy had set up to show off the Kinect, it was HUGE.
sonic free riders discontinued the riders spinoff series and thats a damn shame because the first 2 were amazing.
I remember playing one of those on the GameCube back in the day.

I still have and use the Kinect for fitness game. I think it came out too late in the 360 lifecycle to really capitalize on it.
I've had a Kinect game for around 8 years or so, called 'Fighter Within' - it's for the Xbox One... It's still sealed! I think I paid £2.50 for it brand new... I get the feeling I'm not missing out on much! 🙃
All the Kinect is used for now is Ghost Hunting shows lol. Sad that the best Kinect game was Fruit Ninja.

I remember being excited for that one sonic racers game. The original one on ps2 / gamecube was AWESOME and fun as heck. THis one though? I recall having so many issues. I always assumed it was my setup / me not being good. But i'm glad to know others had similar issues lol

talking of Kinect there was a system using a camera before this, it seems the PS2 EyeToy gets forgotten about, i have the eyetoy camera and games for PS2 maybe i should do a video lol, it was released in 2003.

I rather enjoyed playing Kinect Adventures. I would upload my pics to Facebook for everyone to enjoy. That with Yoostar and Dance Central were very fun also. Everything else kinda sucked.

I'll offer a weak defense of the Kinect. The two Kinect sports games are actually pretty decent... bowling is especially enjoyable, feeling more like the real sport than either Sports Champions on the PS3 or Wii Sports for the Wii. Having said that, the number of Kinect games I have is very low. I haven't played any of these stinkers, or for that matter, the Star Wars Kinect game where you disco dance as Han Solo.
The Star Wars Kinect game was odd, but I liked the racing mini game.

The best motion control game ever is Samba de Amigo for Dreamcast.

Great console, not so good motion controls, both kinect and ps move tried to cash based on the wii mote, which was already not very precise

Got a Kinect 2nd hand when they were still making games for it BC my kids were the perfect age for it at the time. No matter what i did for set up it was so frustrating that we only had it set up for a month before packing it away. Skylanders was a much better "gimmick" (Not for my wallet.)
My son loved Skylanders and played with them for about three years.

Too bad, Kinect isn't such a bad device. I mean, Xbox One Kinect is a lot better and when I got it, I couldn't find much games to play. Kinect Sport Rivals wasn't bad, but other games were either too sexualized to play in the living room using a Kinect. I was hoping to see more games that would utilize Kinect like Sport Rivals.

Sonic Free Riders is horrible lol
I took a chance on heavy armor anyway after hearing all the bad reviews. Once you find the "sweet spot" for your chair, NOT the couch, the game works pretty well- it's just not Steel Battalion (which I still own and play to this day) It's a shame all the bad press killed off the franchise. IMHO, heavy armor is the best game that was developed for the kinect.
I really hated the controls. I was a big fan of the original and own it too. I wish there was a way to play the game with the original controller/or separate mode.

Aw yes. Steel Battalion Heavy Armor. Quite possibly the WORST GAME From Software ever did (Yes From Software developed it. I'm as shocked as you are) also I remember SomecallmeJohnny said in his video on Sonic racing games that he spent OVER AN HOUR in the Free Riders TUTORIAL!
The sonic riders and sonic riders zero gravity for ps2/Xbox/GameCube are way more fun than sonic free riders

Since this was a Kinect video it would have been better if you showed yourself trying to control the games.
We all know that everyone trying to move around for a Kinect game looks silly. Then people would complain about not seeing enough of the game footage.
The worst and bad Xbox 360 games is backbreaker football, vampire rain, need for speed the run, Halo wars, borderlands 1, brutal Legends, BioShock, Madden NFL 25, that game is a demo on PS3 and Xbox 360, NBA live 10, that game is a demo on Xbox 360 and PS3, NCAA football 14 that game is a demo on PS3 and Xbox 360,.😠😡👎
