Imagine living in an area where I just fired the drop and render farm for a scene, only to get 70gb of files which at the end took more time to download than rendering it locally xD
doh!! I feel your pain!
70GB? Wow so big output files??
Cool render! BTW, seems like you didn’t set up the cryptomatte properly? When you briefly opened it, I could only see one matte for all the objects. Cheers
The Cryptomatte allows you to isolate whatever objects you want in post, in this example I clicked on all the objects so I could make a matte for the background so I could change the background color slightly
The one thing that you didn’t mention in the video was how long it actually took to do that job because it looks like you shaved off not too much time off each frame the render time seem to take one minute and something whereas your locally done frames are two minutes. I’m assuming that these are done on multiple machines at a time giving you a time savings how long did the whole render actually take??
Honestly we use this at our studio, and our 20 hour render on 3 3090ti took around 3 hours including download time.
Wow! Sometimes it definitely pays to send a job off to the farm so you can crack on with something else, massive time saver
@@cubesaga94 how much did that run you?
@@CGShortcuts - i forgot when you said it was going to be like 2 mins a frame.. so like 13+ hrs.. what hardware were you using at the time?
@@cjadams7434 I've just got a single 3090 ti. That scene is pretty basic though
How accurate are D&R's cost estimates? In my experience with other farms, they can't guarantee the price even if I provide them with an average render per frame, my hardware specs and benchmarks. It's really shitty to have to tell a client "uhh by the way it's going to cost more than what I said".
Seems to be pretty close in my testing, I tend to add a little extra to my client quotes as contingency just in case though. But if you have any stress just get in touch with the Drop & Render team, they'll look after you and make sure things go smoothly
Do i need convert all animation to alembic..?
If you're using dynamics it can be a good idea, but caching should work as well
