Looks good Mark, really like the intro of the kit history.

Revell Japan also released a great 1/32 scale kit of the Shiden back in the 70's, but it's very rare and expensive now. Can be found on Ebay now and then for $200 or more...up to maybe $300. It will never be produced again, as the molds were lost at sea.

It's a great kit. Hasegawa also released 1/48 scale kits of all models of the Shiden and the Shiden-Kai, and they are a bit better than the Tamiya kit in several respects (as you mentioned), but the Tamiya kit still makes a great model. Nice work!

This is an excellent build video. Very well filmed, clear and well lit. I love the fact that you didn't need to talk through the build, as each and every step was so clearly captured, along with tools/paints used that no words were necessary to convey what was being done. You show how a great result can be achieved straight from the box with nothing more than paint, glue some abrasives and the application of some basic but essential skills and techniques. All demonstrated without any fuss. I believe a total beginner would watch this and think 'I can do this' because you have communicated in a purely visual fashion exactly how to achieve the excellent model you ended the film with. I'm not an expert on these video builds and I would not presume to tell anyone who is brave enough to put their work on display like this how to do it, or say which way is best. However, I do feel that if the object of a you tube build video is to encourage other modellers, maybe new to the hobby, to start and finish a simple project from a good base kit, then you have succeeded beautifully with this film. It's so clear and concise and logical. I'll definitely look for more of your work. Thanks for posting this. Thumbs up!!

Thank you for such a kind comment, without any doubt the nicest I’ve ever received. I am glad you like the format, as sometimes it’s hard to know what resonates with people. Cheers Nick, I have a new video coming in a week or so

Great airbrush work! Those N1K1s were finished in dark green over natural metal undersides - though some subassemblies such as engine cowlings and underwing cannon pods were painted light gray. Most had the upper wing and fuselage hinomarus with the white border. Excellent model!

It's a good kit, a favorite of mine. Have aksi built the Hasegawa N1K2 later variant of the Shiden. A little more detailed but both kits are great. Important late war Japanese Naval fighter.

Nice build! Just a word of advice, stabilisers after wings. Alignment is much easier. Keep having fun!

Beautiful built and very meticulous paint job. I personally prefer the hinomarus with the white border in the upper and side surfaces and a little less weathering. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Incredible workmanship on an old model. The real secret you didn't reveal is the Rising Sun red dots. Did you cut them first then put them onto the model? If so, did you put the tape on a hard surface for easier removal to put onto the aircraft? You earned a new sub for making this video.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Regarding the hinomarus, I used a circle cutter on a piece of acrylic to cut them from Tamiya tape and used them as a template. The cutter i use is from Olfa and I got it on Amazon years ago for around $10. Cheers
