After 200 years, this coal mine is closing - and it's England's last one

- Today marks the end of an era, with the closure of England's last commercial coal mine.
The Bradley Mine in County Durham has operated for almost 200 years.
But now, after plans to expand the site failed, the open-cast pit that produces 150,000 tonnes of coal a year, will close.

And coal was almost certainly used to make the steel (another industry she probably disapproves of) constituting said door key and the nose ring and let's not even mention the chemicals used to produce the hair dye.......

It's sad and honestly I agree with the miners on the while the UK still has a need for coal it is more eco friendly to mine our own than import it with the added benefit of keeping hundreds of people employed preventing yet another mining town from deteriorating

@@leehenry5764 That is a misleading way of putting it. Yes, we use coal for 2% of our electricity, but that is 37% of our coal usage, 38% of our coal is used in the steel industry. So we use roughly the same amount for steel and power stations.
We still need coal so I suppose we'll import it from other countries. The Environmentalists will make us all poorer.
It will also mean a greater carbon footprint. Those freight ships need a lot of oil to import the coal here.

Umos not necessarily, we are swiftly moving to renewable and phasing out coal by 2025 so there won’t be demand for it, solar panels are also very cheap and wind or hydroelectricity are very viable and Renewables are really taking the lead now, there won’t be a need for chinese fossil fuels

Creating flood and fragile land from mining massive holes on the surface and underground is a bad way to mine. Mining from sea ground and mountains tops should be the only mining processes. It rises and strengthens ground level and makes the world safer. And rising sediment and minerals would disturb sea life not kill it.
I’m sure that young multicolour haired girl completely understands how this will destroy people’s/family’s lives, and let’s not forget thoughts of suicide in the older male community who will struggle to provide for their families.
