An unusual fact... in music one is taught that the notes "fa" and "ti" must never be sounded adjacent to each other (they are referred to as the Devil's Quatrain). However, in this clock they are used together in the first sequence and they sound very good! Incidentally I am working on an 8 bell longcase clock at the moment which also uses these notes together in places. It is a long way off finished yet, unfortunately.
@sodaclublad Some parts are German, some parts are of unknown origin. It's all in bits at the moment. I'm hoping to get it fixed up during my holiday from work in June.
@TommyWylie Hi, that's very interesting thank you. I know this as 'German Whittington' ? I also have 3 more mantle clocks which play in this fashion. I much prefer this to the standard Whittington. It seems more tuneful! Is the clock you are working on German? Chris
The clock shop, Haha, just kidding probably need to go to Germany where I used to live and buy one in there clock shops, not much imported to America, I am 95% German and I am not 95% sure tho
