    Maligula also could stem from "Caligula" and "Malik". One's a ruthless sadistic tyrant, another is the name of the royal Grulovian family. As she was basically an enforcer of the tyrannical government. Also, the name was given to her by the people, according to the game. I doubt the people really knew about the intricacies of what amygdala is

      I'm thinking it's 'Mal' as in the latin word meaning 'Bad', rather than Malik. Not a bad thought all the same though!

    A point about Raz reading Lilli's mind as I just played all three games over last week: in the first game when she first realizes that he is able to read her mind, she says "I didn't know you could read minds..." before quickly changing the subject. Raz seems bewildered by this, which suggests that he normally can't, or that he simply hasn't been able to make that connection with someone before, and to me further strengthens the theory that she was subconsciously connecting her mind to his, causing him to be able to hear her thoughts.

    A video looking at some of the hidden details in psychonaut 2 would be great. Game has so much lore and extra detail to this strange world.

    Watching this after seeing psychonauts two and the theory that lizzy and norma are related to maligula came up. Now I'm not going to say why as....obvious spoilers. But close but not truly right, still its quite funny imagining if that was true along with the truth

    Ooh! Thanks for mentioning my silly theory, I didn't think anyone gave it much thought!
    Maligula reminds me of a Jamaican (I think Jamaican) goddess of the sea. I thinK Yemaya? I don't remember much about her, but She was normally kind to her subjects, but when angered she could create storms, typhoons and all other destructive forces. I might be way off, might do some more reading on Yemaya.

      You’re welcome. I thought it was a nice observation, one which I’d never considered before.
      I had a quick look into Yemaya. She sounds interesting, as she’s someone who’s both fierce and nurturing. Now that Psychonauts 2 is out, we might be better able to hone in on inspirations. Or perhaps the dev team will reveal more over time. I’m always interested to hear new comments and insights. So feel free to share whenever you like.

      (spoilers for psychonauts 2!)
      yeah! I played the game very quickly when it came out to avoid spoilers (psychonauts 1 has always been one of my favourite games). At the end on psychonauts 2, if you try to find loboto he's sneaking away saying he left his kid at Whispering Rock. I immediately started thinking of who it could be - Zilch was the first kid I thought of who fit the bill. Looked it up and no one else had said anything yet so I just forgot about it until now!

    Sorry in advance if you haven't plane or seen the story of the game on CZcams, but there's one thing that continues the bug me at the end of Psychonauts 2, Gristol Malik couldn't have put those psychic booby traps in Caligistro Loboto's mind, leading to their being a third party involved and I think I may have a theory on who it is, we learned that Gristol's father died but they never mention anything about his mother, I'm thinking she's the psychic and the third party, and there's something else that adds to the theory that's been bugging me, how can Lucretia Mux side with tyrants like the Malik family? When her sister was against them? The only thing that makes sense if Queen Malik (or however you say Queen in Grulovia) is there estranged sister, which would make sense and she would use her psychic abilities to increase her amygdala to make her into their weapon, Queen Malik may not be psychically strong but thanks to what we learned happened to Lucretia's mine in Psychonauts 2, it was too easy for her to do what she did, my thought is that she already took back Grulovia and is now waiting for her son to bring Maligula with him, given what we learned so far everything is setting up for Psychonauts 3.

      Very interesting theory. Thanks for sharing.
      I’ve also wondered about those booby traps in Loboto’s mind. They could just be the result of normal hypnosis. They could have been imprinted by a hypnosis device. Or, like you said, they could have been installed by some third party.
      The game divulges very little about Gristol’s mother. So she could be revealed as a co-conspirator in a later game. Or we might at least learn her whereabouts and living status. Then again, she’s not portrayed as a hugely influential figure in Gristol’s life. So she may just be left on the wayside. It could go either way. But it is curious how little we learn about her.
      Regarding Lucrecia, if I understand the story correctly, she didn’t intend to get close to the Maliks. She initially went to Grulovia to defend her country. It was only after rescuing the young Gristol from a group of invaders that she fell in with the family. She was pushed to do “horrible things in the name of her country”. Being young, vulnerable, and open to suggestion she did those things. All the while, Maligula grew in size. The implication is that Lucy was never truly in control. She was, to use a cliche, in the wrong place at the wrong time.
      At the same time, I understand your point. It’s said that Maligula grew in size due to the “Gzar and the war”. But a further twist could reveal that the Gzarina had an underhanded part in it. Schafer is a big fan of dramatic twists, and the character of the femme fatale. So there is a possibility.
      Looking back, I think Schafer was inspired by the story of the real-life Rasputin. The Russian mystic was known for his great influence over the tsar and his family during the First World War. This influence came about after he allegedly healed the son, or tsarevich, from the brink of death. Similar to Maligula, Rasputin also had a lustful appetite for destruction. (His name literally means “debauched one”.) So there’s a fair chance he had an influence over Schafer too.

    • @AnonymousEnigma19
      @AnonymousEnigma19 Před rokem +2

      @@curiousarcade so it's Gzarina? That's the title for the queen of Grulovia? The more you know🌈, and those were Invaders in Gristol's flashback? I thought they were violent citizens and that's what truly lead to Maligula drowning the nonviolent protesters, must have missed that part.

    • @curiousarcade
      @curiousarcade  Před rokem +2

      @@AnonymousEnigma19 Yes. The Gzar’s wife is the Gzarina and his son, Gristol, is the Gzesarevich. (You come across these titles during the ride in Fatherland Follies, when Raz is introduced to the puppet version of the family.) These titles are based on the words Tzar, Tzarina, and Tzesarevich, the titles for the emperor, empress, and crown prince of Russia.
      The memory of Gristol being rescued from the “invaders” is called Glory to Grulovia! In the last slide, the Grulovian people appear to be cheering on Lucy and Gristol. So I think this memory is from that period of time when the people were on her side. It was only after the war that she drowned the protesters. But by that stage, Maligula was more fully in charge.
