    You mean all the social influencers telling me a $200 fashion watch I can get on Ali unbranded for $15 isn't the greatest watch ever? You mean a new kickstarter model suddenly exploding over 30 watch review channels within a week of each other might have been sent for a kick-back/fee?
    No way dude. I don't believe a word of it. I can't wait to get the faux-gold tooby-yon mechaquartz super calander moonphase world timer I ordered from Fillipo Laranzeti of China for just 2k 😀

    This brand screwed me. I was a super early backer. Ordered a titanium, they sent me a black steel (I paid more for Ti). Wouldn't exchange unless I paid to send back at my expense and even then, they couldn't confirm if I'd ever get a replacement back. Luckily some poor soul bought the steel one off ebay from me

      I was a backer for the titanium blue version, the delivery was delayed, and I finally received a red stainless steel one (in France). I asked for help on their FB page. They finally answered me (and the rest went by email). I was asked to ship mine to an Italian backer who would send me the blue titanium he received instead of the SS he had backed. I did it, the Italian guy sent me his, Ciga Design refunded me relatively quickly. Eventhough I got the piece I had backed, I was disappointed, since they changed the design from the one I had been seduced by: a blue (visible) plate had finally not been made in blue, just plain metal, which removed some colour from the overall watch. The blue has different shades on the inside compared to the case parts and screws. The strap is not my cup of tea, and the time itself is hardly readable. Overall, a very bad experience with the brand and the product.

    • @CBRboy1717
      @CBRboy1717 Před 2 lety

      @@RaphaelRousseau yeah the color mismatch is partially why I sold my purple version. The screws and crown were the deep purple that were advertised and lured me in. But the lume color was so light it was almost pink. It looked all wrong during daylight. Plus that awful spinning rotor noise…

    If anything, you are being nice, as opposed to harsh. Considering the comments you read, I would have been more harsh, similarly to talking about Seiko or Rolex. I like that you only spoke about your personal experience with the watch, itself. The way you presented the comments was also truthful, yet very diplomatic. I especially appreciate simply reading comments verbatim without your own "commentary on the comments", if that makes sense.

    I don't recall Formex mentioning a type of car suspension on which they based their springy casey thing-a-ma-jiggy, so CIGA Design might be doing some linguistic gymnastics with the claim about the suspension system.

  • @jrgdrumsandwatches
    @jrgdrumsandwatches Před 2 lety +4

    What about Certina and their DS concept? The movement is literally suspended in the case. I mean they put their watches in a rally car wheel and in a ice hockey puck to show their shock resistance and reliability. G-shock what?

    • @brianmsahin
      @brianmsahin Před 2 lety

      Yes it will certainly take shocks quite well but not sure if it would survive the tests that G-Shocks are put through. Looking at the design I can't imagine it surviving the 70m drop from a mountain precipice that my Mudmaster survived, even the promo video is pretty tame stuff, didn't see anything that a Seiko Tuna wouldn't handle with ease. It's a pretty tough dive watch alright but let's see it fall from s building flat on its face. The video was more marketing fluff than anything. Even the part when they swing a metal block at it , it doesn't fall on the ground, it gets knocked into a nice soft comfortable blanket. A G-Shock has a pretty good chance of surviving being run over by an SUV. The Certina definitely won't. I would take all that with a grain of salt my friend.

My dumbass returned the higher priced titanium model for the cheaper SS model that I originally ordered. I liked how the titanium model wore, the SS felt a little more unwieldy and bulky. Unfortunately, the free spinning rotor in the watch drove me absolutely crazy. If you flicked your wrist just the right way, you could hear that sucker spin away. I'm not sure why CIGA Design even needs to launch on IndieGoGo. Unfortunately, Kickstarter and IndieGoGo used to be used primarily to launch new brands, but now they are being used by brands with deep pockets, just to drive sales through a FOMO campaign.
    CIGA Design is actually owned by a huge Chinese conglomerate, Xiaomi. Xiaomi produces all types of consumer electronics and small appliances. Watches and smart bands are just a small fraction of their business. In August, 2021, Xiaomi became the largest, global seller of smart phones.
    As for their watches, I don't own one, but they do use good quality components. The skeleton movements are Sea-Gull ST2553JK, custom calibers designs for CIGA. In general, the Sea-Gull ST25 family of movements have proven to be some of the most reliable Chinese movements, validating Sea-Gulls, clean sheet design.
    I have seen CIGA Design watches sell at, or slightly below there IndieGoGo campaign prices, during on of the major AliExpress annual sales.
    In addition to the more flamboyant, CIGA Design watch models, Xiaomi also produces lesser known, "TwentySeventeen" watches, with mostly "homage" designs.

You probably got sent a well assembled example that won't fall apart straight away while the customers get shafted by having the problems highlighted on the comments. If they didn't compensate you financially fair fucks. However, if they did and you didn't like it, you could have turned it down. Who makes the movement; is there any lume etc?

    When I want to buy a nice, good value for money watch, I end up at Oris. This looks like 15 year old to me.

      The cheapest Ciga watches start at less than 100 bucks and the cheapest Oris is 750 dollars. They aren't comparable.

    Watch collectors can be a bitchy, finicky bunch. I often take the comments section of an indiegogo campaign with a grain of salt. That being said, even if every commenter was grossly exaggerating the problem, it still points to a widespread QC problem at Ciga. Unresponsive customer service is also a big no-no. One of the typical benefits of watch crowdfunding campaigns is that it gets you closer to the watchmaker.

  • @michaelhorn5491
    @michaelhorn5491 Před 2 lety

    You're not being too harsh. A person would be foolish NOT to consider customer comments. I will always check out the 1-2 star reviews on Amazon. Often it's obvious the reviewer isn't smart enough to operate or care for a wristwatch, but if the same themes are being repeated often enough, that should be a BIG red flag.

    Why did you blur out the brands replies to those comments? Surely if you wanted to be fair you would show that for balance. Keen to know how many negative comments out of the total comments - all key to know the scale of the problems. I had to send a Tudor back and get a refund because it broke - twice. Garbage. Is Tudor now garbage? I won’t buy another for sure but I also know most people love their Tudors. I think this review was incredibly unbalanced - and I hate CiGa watches.

    Two big cons: 1. The size. 48 x 48 is rediculous. I'd feel like I was wearing a clown watch. I don't care how big your wrist is, that just looks stupid. 2. You can't read the time. The skeletonization combined with the skeletonized hands make it impossible to tell the time at a glance. Not only would I not buy this watch, I wouldn't accept it even if they gave it to me.

    All watch reviews are a bit meh to be honest, especially when it comes to dive watches. None of them take the case back off, see the quality of the movement holder and pull the crown out and show us where and how many gaskets it has. It's unbelievable, any other industry would strip the product down. Saying its an awesome dive watch and knowing nothing about the gaskets on the crown and stem is pathetic. The industry needs to do better.
