- VH1 interview with Duran Duran, c. 2000. This interview is to promote their album 'Pop Trash' released in the USA in June of 2000.
Anyone else think the woman interviewing the band is a little condescending? Constantly referring to them as an 80's band? Repeatedly reminding them the she 'USED' to scream for Duran Duran. I wonder how many international hits she wrote and recorded? Where is she now, I wonder?
Incidentally the video for Someone Else Not Me was a world's first for the Shockwave technology.
I liked the video more than the sickly sweet song.
Still love Pop Trash, one of their very best albums.
Pop trash is actually among
my three top DD albums
_Pop Trash_ is so underrated !
I agree :)
They must have known it'd get obvious reviews ( jut in U.K.?) with ,' trash' in the title.
As George Michael named Wham albums , ' Fantastic ' & ,' Make it Big' just to wind-up the critics ( er, me thinks some irony & confidence; remember, this was a man who requested & danced to his own songs in discos - then again Mr Le Bon might be the same?) .
"Mars Meets Venus" would've been a #1 hit for them if they would've promoted it and extended the song. It was too short and buried in the album.
While Pop Trash doesn’t immediately spring to mind when considering my favorite Duran albums… I do think it’s a very strong album. It feels very cohesive and consistent. Organic and experimental. While it doesn’t really feel like any other Duran album it still feels very Duran. Not a bad song on the album and has some flat out epic moments as Pop Trash Movie is one of the best songs to ever come out of this landmark band.
Nick Rhodes speaks so well about boy bands ... sums them so well without be condensing or disrespectful
At the end of this video is Lynda, Jennifer Lopez's sister yonger sister, who worked in radio broadcasting before becoming a VJ for VH1’s The Daily One for a short time with Kane and Rebecca Rankin
Without John Taylor this is not Duran Duran!
Exactly!!

I remember watching this when it aired. I didn’t really get any condescending vibe then or now. And truth be told, a lot of what she hinted at wasn’t too different from what other journalists would bring up in interviews anyway... and continue to as well. Heck, the band did a similar interview on The View around this time and one of the hosts mentioned Warren being “the new guy”, despite saying she liked them in the past and his involvement with the band for 10+ years. For me, this wasn’t as bad in comparison.
People are going to write what they know. If we were asked to write an introduction for a band we only know about from a certain time period, we’ll probably use some of that for key words in the story to attract the viewer. As for the host, it seems like she’s drifted from music journalism onto social work and child welfare advocacy… more power to her.
I thought she was balanced !
I think a better word was disconnected. She didn't interview them well. No charisma. Just a straight line of questions. No energy. That's my complaint. Especially after watching people like Colbert...
They were kinda saying the boy bands out then were trash. DD at least were a BAND. Boy bands were too safe and commercial. A lot of DD's stuff werent safe, especially Arcadia stuff.
Duran duran.... Mitici❤️❤️❤️❤️
Probably their most underrated album, obviously didn't help with all the hiccups going on with their record company's at the time and not being released in the UK either. Great album.
They could have called it Pop Trash Movie, it was a cooler name.
not their best effort
I remember when this Music Video premiered on Jun 15, 2000 on VH1, "Someone Else, Not Me" the English version of course. Someone Else Not Me was the first ever Music Video to be created entirely in Macromedia Flash animation in 2000, by web design firm Fullerene Productions (who also created the band's Flash-based official website back in that era) [i remember going in that website in that era, the instrumental version of Lava Lamp would play in the website & use to love the *instrumental of *Nice demo being played on that website as well, it was the only demo of *nice *instrumental i ever listened to which sounded very Disco, which unfortunately never did it ever get released as a demo though hopefully it does in the future, & unfortunately the flash website doesn't exist anymore.] Although there is a newer website but does not have any animation in the current website. But the music video can be found on you tube just like this Spanish version Just Google: Duran Duran Official Music Video Someone Else Not Me. or en Spanish Google: Duran Duran - Alguien Que No Soy Yo.
