Just my opinion: I'd much prefer to see your reaction to the actual content, not to a narrated version. Watchmojo spoil everything by explaining it in advance, instead of just letting you see it and enjoy it. It's almost as if they're trying to take some credit for the content. ;-)
And they cut out some of the funniest parts of them, so first they spoil the jokes, and then they don't properly show them off. I'd dig up the originals to be sure.
The Cheese Shop is clearly the best Monty Python sketch of all time 🧐 ...closely followed by Philosopher Football and Novel Writing (1 & 2). So there 😄
I've only just realized that - at 6:67: minutes - that's Lesley Judd, who a few years later, went on to co-present the children's magazine programme Blue Peter with Valerie Singleton, Peter Purves and John Noakes.
I actually agree the Bridge of Death is the funniest scene in Holy Grail. My favorite Flying Circus sketch has to be Fish Slapping Dance followed by Hungarian Phrasebook and Bee License
My friend, do yourself a favour and watch all 4 seasons of the TV show (MPFC - I think it's on Netflix now), *then* decide on a favourite sketch. There's so much brilliant, way ahead of its time, wacky but very smart material. My favourites are the Upper Class Twit of the Year, and the Election Night Special.
I would to sneak down the stairs when I was little. My elder two brothers would enjoy them each week, long after my bedtime. This would have been early 1970s.
Connor, I think, given your love of Python, you could pretty much put in for your British Passport any time that you want 😉 Also, have you seen Michael Caines The Italian Job? I think you'd enjoy it mate.
My favourite is The Four Yorkshiremen. With every tale they recall about the good old days, their struggles become worse and worse until their stories are way beyond reality. 😂😂😂😂
One of my favorite Monty Python Sketches is where a UFO fly's over London and turns its citizens into Scotsmen it is a Monty Python Sketch that is hardly ever seen these days but I think it's one of the funniest from Monty Python Flying Circus Show. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you like the Python humour, then check out The Goodies - one of their sketches was so good a man died laughing after watching it (the Ecky Thump sketch - although it turns out he may have had underlying health issues which the laughter didn't help).
Monty Python's Flying Circus was funnier than any of the movies, in my opinion. There were several series. I like the fish-slap dance...I'm a great fan of the ridiculous early surrealism.
It's missing some of my favourites. The Cheese Shop sketch, or Flying Lessons where Chapman tries to teach a baffled Jones to fly. Also Flying Sheep, where again Chapman tries to explain to a passer by why his sheep Harold is trying to jump from a tree in order to take flying. Then, there's also Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson, and then there's Jones playing Arthur Ewing And His Musical Mice. The list could go on and on.
You really need to see the Dirty Hungarian Phrasebook in its entirety. We all have our Person favourites and for no particular reason. I love the “Raymond Luxury-Yacht” skit personally. It’s under 2 minutes long but i was in stitches the first time i saw it.
my personal favourites: Posh Olympics Philosopher’s football Self defence class The cheese shop The “cannot be seen” sketch Argument clinic The “birth” sketch in Meaning of Life. _All_ of Holy Grail _All_ of Brian
According to Palin an arguement involves an intellectual process but contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of what the other person says. The Parrot sketch was always going to be no.1. I have the whole series and the films, I think my choice may have been a bit different. I love The Galaxy Song, The Four Yorkshire Men and John's "What have the Romans ever done for us" speech in Life of Brian. Having said that I'm happy with Mojo's top ten, I liked them all.
An argument is a fact or statement used to support a proposition; a reason whereas contradiction is the act of contradicting though I might argue that I have contradicted myself...
A group of researchers spent 6 months in Antarctica living like penguins... and subsequently dying like penguins, proving that the penguin is a clever little sot in his own environment.
Hey Connor...If you can try to look at he predecessors of Monty Python...AT Last The 1948 show and The Frost Report. They will give you an insight into the development of British comedy from the late 60's...John Cleese,Grahem Chapman and Eric Idle feature in the '48 Show while John Cleese & Michael Palin feature with Ronnie's Barker and Corbet (The Two Ronnies) in theFrost Report, watch for their 3 levels of society! Also very funny from roughly that era are Peter Cook & Dudley Moore!
If like me you often look at on-line phrasebooks for foreign languages (we in Europe tend to travel a lot for our holidays and I like to be able to say at leasta few words wherever I go in the local language...) you will often find tucked away at the bottom the translation of "My hovercraft is full of eels" as a nod to the Hungarian Phrasebook sketch.....
I was at a car boot sale the other week & was fortunate enough to pick up the entire box set of 15 DVD's of everything Monty Python had ever done, Every TV episode & every film are there, £4 for a lifetime of laughs has got to be the bargain of the century & I didn't even have to 'haggle' for them!.
Terrible list, read terribly. I know you don't want to look before but there are some amazing sites, groups and people that would give you something better to react to. Keep up the work Connor, it's only because I'm focused on one thing longer.
the funiest part of all the movies is the Biggus Dickus scene and the stoning scene but all the Monty Python scenes are a scream, the only American equivalent to them are Mel Brooks movies
I re watched all the Python TV series a few years ago and I have to say that I'd forgotten how incredibly variable it was. There are complete episodes where only one or two sketches crack a smile, just cos so many sketches now seem (to me at least) to fall the wrong side of that very thin very indefinable line between comic absurdity and tedious silliness. But having said that - as this sampler shows clearly - when they got it right there was nobody better. The Minehead By-Election, Cheese Shop and the Bee License are missing gems here, but I think this selection hits most of the higher notes.
There are so many hilarious Python Sketches it's hard to put down to just 10, not just in their films and TV Series but also their albums that they produced.
There's so many. I agree with the Parrot Shop..it's cult. But I'd put in "Biggus Dickus " at no.2. Also the "end" of Mr. Creosote. I'm sick of hearing "Look on the Bright side of Life" and I can't find any CZcams sketch on the violins which kept snapping whilst the orchestra was playing. (John Cleese commenting very softly "Oh dear, he's just broken his Stradivarius")
My favourite film of all time is Life of Brian. I’ve seen whole reaction videos of the whole film. I don’t know if you’ve done one, but please do, because they’re clearly pretty free and easy over copyright. Brought up catholic it is especially hilarious to me. But just anyone brought up in a Christian place (like the USA) would find every joke hits home SO hard it’s side-splitting. I don’t think my catholic dad would’ve appreciated it, so it’s even funnier. Anyway, love what you do. Keep your pecker up.
Palin’s, Chapman’s and Cleese’s sketches are always the best. Jones was the best sketch actor, I was never a fan of his written sketches. Gilliam’s animations are iconic and Idle’s music was fantastic! Personally, any sketch with Palin, Chapman or Cleese in it were a winner!
"Whenever two or three are in one place, they shall do the parrot sketch.... It is an ex parrot. It has ceased to be" - czcams.com/video/asUyK6JWt9U/video.html
Watch Mojo is a curse on the internet, all the things you like but out of context and with useless narration over the top obscuring the joke and disecting the frog
The surprising thing about The Spanish Inquisition is that people always expected them, according to QI, they'd write ahead so you knew they were coming.
The voice over in this compilation ruins the sketches by both talking over sections of the routines and pointing out the obvious. Plus they missed one of the greatest sketches, "The Fish Slapping Dance", only 22 seconds but hilarious sight gag and physical slapstick comedy (czcams.com/video/T8XeDvKqI4E/video.html).
Firstly, Python is easily my favourite comedy 'brand' of all time (that's to say of all Standup, Radio, TV, Film Solo or Group). But many others are not too far behind, and it's difficult to choose. Secondly it's also VERY difficult to choose my favourite Python moments, it's hard to criticise Watch Mojo's picks or indeed order, my personal picks might show where I think they got it right and wrong! The Dead Parrot Sketch (notably it's the only one that doesn't _feel right_ without adding 'sketch') The Spanish Inquisition The Knights Who Say Ni Biggus Dickus The Fish Slapping Dance The Ministry of Silly Walks 'He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!' (This would be that whole scene, like Biggus Dickus) The Argument Clinic Always Look on the Bright Side of life Self-Defense Against Fresh Fruit Just to clarify (if it needed saying) ALL these are funnier than MOST comedy, I don't laugh at many things as much as I do at Cleese pulling out a gun and shooting a banana brandishing Chapman 🤣
I know it's hard to narrow it down to just 10 but... how could they not include the Fish Slapping Dance??? :) Btw, if you haven't watched Monty Python's Meaning of Life, you have to do so! It tends to be unfairly overshadowed by their 2 more famous films. In a way it's understandable. They have consistent narratives, whilst The Meaning of Life is a series of extended sketches, held loosely together by the central theme. However... Imho it's the funniest of all their films, even if it does lack a true narrative! :)
What have the Romans ever done for us? spam, Spam, egg and Spam The fish slapping dance. I'm Brian and so's my wife I am Arthur king of the Britain's. Who are they? You!
I think you should stop reacting to stuff like this. And by this I mean clips from movies. Either watch the movies in whole or don't watch them at all.
Just my opinion: I'd much prefer to see your reaction to the actual content, not to a narrated version. Watchmojo spoil everything by explaining it in advance, instead of just letting you see it and enjoy it. It's almost as if they're trying to take some credit for the content. ;-)
Exactly. Watch mojo is most irritating. Inane commentary.
And they cut out some of the funniest parts of them, so first they spoil the jokes, and then they don't properly show them off. I'd dig up the originals to be sure.
100% agreed.
he receives many views from the watch mojo videos
Watchmojo is a parasite channel they add absolutely zero to their videos.
Reducing Monty Python down to just 10 is like reducing a beach down to 10 grains of sand.
I suppose he's condescending it😜
A minor complaint about Mojo could be 'Talking over the sketches and spoiling them.'
Ripping yarns, is another Python masterpiece.
Comedy utterly Ruined by the narration describing it 😩
Totally agree. I had to give up halfway 😪
WatchMojo is the laziest channel on CZcams. People reacting to it is just painful.
"Fish Slapping Dance" from The Flying Circus is pretty funny.
Quick factoid, Connie Booth, the lumberjack song was married to John cleese. She also plays Polly in Fawlty Towers.
She also co wrote Flowery Twats with John.
@@rickb.4168 I was not aware of that, cheers mate. ✌
Farty Owls
Monty Python were comedy gold. "Tis but a scratch!"🤣🤣 keep up the great work!
The Cheese Shop is clearly the best Monty Python sketch of all time 🧐 ...closely followed by Philosopher Football and Novel Writing (1 & 2). So there 😄
German Philosophers picking Beckenbauer in the side was a bit of a surprise.
You're a Leicester fan I think.
'Oh, no, it's Tess of the D'urbervilles all over again!!'
@@t.p.mckenna Not the semaphore version of Wuthering Heights, then?
The Cheese Shop is my favourite as well.
The fish slapping dance is one of the best.
I've only just realized that - at 6:67: minutes - that's Lesley Judd, who a few years later, went on to co-present the children's magazine programme Blue Peter with Valerie Singleton, Peter Purves and John Noakes.

2) Not even sure I wanted to know about your 'hard candy' either! 🤣
I actually agree the Bridge of Death is the funniest scene in Holy Grail. My favorite Flying Circus sketch has to be Fish Slapping Dance followed by Hungarian Phrasebook and Bee License
The ministry of silly walks and the Argument clinic are pretty funny too!
Another vote for the Fish Slapping dance!
@@taun856 That is probably the best comedy scetch ever made!
Have you ever seen the Python sketch where Michelangelo defends his painting "the last supper" ? Check it out :)
I second that ... "Michaelangelo to meet the pope" aka the "penultimate supper" :D :P
That is ONE clip that everyone needs to watch :D
All Pyhton is great but Life of Brian is a work of art. "He's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy!"
I thought the 'buying a bed' sketch was at least worthy of a mention
Remember that the movies are a miniscule portion of their work.
Monty Python Upperclass Twit of the Year is also very funny!
Always Look On The Bright Side is very popular at funerals in the UK 🤣
'Nudge, nudge, say no more'
'Marching up and down the square'
and 'Salad days' in addition to these.
My friend, do yourself a favour and watch all 4 seasons of the TV show (MPFC - I think it's on Netflix now), *then* decide on a favourite sketch. Also the one where they tell you about their roots... Graeme Garden catching the haggis!
Sorry bro I can't with the Mojo, the narrator talks more than the video
My favourite MP sketch is the fish dance… hilarious! I heard John Cleese say it was his favourite too.
Monty Python's Flying Circus was funnier than any of the movies, in my opinion. There were several series. I like the fish-slap dance...I'm a great fan of the ridiculous early surrealism.

That's peach and Life of Brian is not a sketch, it's a scene from a movie.
The whole Flying Circus is a high point of universal human culture :)
My personal favorite is the "Mary, the Queen of Scots/Penguin on TV" sketch
My father had this song at his funeral.
A group of researchers spent 6 months in Antarctica living like penguins... and subsequently dying like penguins, proving that the penguin is a clever little sot in his own environment.

Bigus Dickus and Blessed are the Cheesemakers are both worthy of that list both top 5 or even top 3
Fish slapping dance is me favourite Monty Python scetch and that of football game between Greek and German philosophers.
Dejavu sketch is the best ever Sketch and its on series 2 episode 2 , just the best episode
A sketch worth watching is Monty Python the fish slapping dance .
Some of those weren't sketches, they were scenes from a movie.
The Dead Parrot, of course, The Cheese Shop, The Bookshop....

Track down the flying saucer sketch, you will like that.
There's an android game of Ministry of Silly Walks. I haven't played it in quite a while.
The hardest I have ever laughed was seeing in the theatre the fight with the Black Knight
The narrator explaining the sketches ruins this, unwatchable.
Is the black Knight Amber heard in disguise ????😳🙄
The surprising thing about The Spanish Inquisition is that people always expected them, according to QI, they'd write ahead so you knew they were coming.
My Mum planned to use this sketch as the guide to her life in retirement - sadly she passed aged only 53 - much missed RIP Mum xxxx
