LYRICS:
Wheel out your god, these are desperate times.
Talk to your mother, these are desperate times.
Dance with your lover, these are desperate times.
Surrender yourself, these are desperate times.
Fight for their lives.
Fight for their lives.
The hopeless are useless in desperate times.
You got it bad? Try having passion.
Try still believing that some good will happen.
Though nothing ever has, and nothing ever will, because nothing ever can.
It’s almost unbearable.
Honestly? Terrible.
We’re in the golden age of bastards.
We’re living in the golden age of bastards bastards.
Despairing is painless and peace is a lie.
You should try loving man while fucking hating mankind.
It rips you apart.
Got an atheist praying for judgement day.
Enough to make an atheist pray for judgement day.
The great American sob story, a sad S.O.B story.
A holy man who kills what cannot be saved.
At war with a villain, you can’t call a truce.
You put down your weapon but now he’s got two.
A liar’s a liar, take him at his word.
Forever rebelling against the absurd.
The world made us sick. How can it heal us?
We can not be saved by the men digging graves.
In desperate times.
Hey, look on the bright side.
There’s nowhere but up from a canyon in hell.

Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

@John Marini STUDENT dude we're fucking everywhere
KEITHS. VOCALS. MAN. FOR YEARS.
?
He somehow is even better
Most screamers sound like their voice is shot by now
@@drumsno that’s what I’m saying! I’m sure the mixing helped, but Keith has been mostly consistent ever since Gutter
@@thiccorquit his low teens vocals are haunting. he sounds so broken, despair and even his cleans, are raspy. now he sounds like he is complete insane lmao
Love how Keith is screaming his lungs out and we can still perfectly understand every word he’s saying.

'It’s almost unbearable / Honestly? Terrible' love it. Keiths' lyrics get me
I absolutely loved low teens, and to this day it is one of my favorite records. but if this single is any signifier, I am very excited for the witty and sardonic lyrics of records past to make a return
@@shekelwarlocke He definitely got in his own head a bit circa Parts Unknown, trying to steer away from super quotable 'Keith lines'. I'm glad he's over it though, it's not like he wrote Hot Damn's songs knowing they'd become a thousand tattoos.
"Hey, look on the bright side, there's nowhere but up from a canyon in hell." Damn.
mmmaaannnnnnn
wtf does that even mean? lol a canyon in hell?
@@joerogansforeheadwrinkles8380 "Nowhere but up from a canyon in hell"? It means we're so deep in the shit but we all can still cling to hope with the belief that things will get better even though we find ourselves at the lowest, most inescapable depths. Can't believe that actually had to be explained to someone lol.
Goddamn Keith Buckley is an amazing vocalist; and a brilliant mind at that, one the best lyricist out there.
He is the Jim Morrison of our time.
Agreed!
It's really amazing that a band who has been around so long can consistently put out amazing album after amazing album. Each album is uniquely different but still doesn't stray away from their core sound. These two songs are so damn good...and just knowing that there's like 14 more is such a great feeling.
This isn’t an album this is a song off an album that has been recorded for over a year that they refuse to release for over a year since recording with no explanation. This is not normal.
@@nathanbuss5044 "On September 9, 2019, the band confirmed that they had started work on their ninth album. They later announced during the January 2020 UK/EU tour supporting While She Sleeps, that the recording process of the album would start once they returned to the US. The band completed recording before the COVID-19 pandemic escalated in the United States in early 2020, and they are waiting to release the new album until they are able to tour in support of it."
@@endofnight well COVID ain’t going away so I guess they should just announce the end of there career and shelf the album. I’ve seen many bands since this album was completed write record and release albums. The world didn’t stop turning because COVID hit. It isn’t stoppped turning for Every time I die and it’s a bad look .
It did stop turning for them and they should be ashamed of themselves for letting COVID dictate the release of their materials but it’s their right and I do defend their right to do it but it’s shoddy workmanship for sure.
"We cannot be saved by the men digging graves." This may be the most important, dead on beautiful lyrics I've seen in my life.
I keep playing this song over and over.
“The world made us sick. How can it heal us??!” 👏👏👏🙌
'Look on the brightside, theres nowhere but up from a canyon in hell' These guys simply dont know how to disappoint.
2:44 Butcher breaking it down!
fucking rips
The world made us sick
How can it heal us?
Like a vaccine
He sounds like Zack From Rage during this part ...
Our homeboy JC
The lyrics in ever single ETID song is pure poetry. I'm blown out of my mind and into space listening to their music.
These guys are one of the top tier bands of our generation
Lyrics simultaneously poignant and sardonic, with a breakdown like a brick to the fucking teeth, and an eerily relevant parting line. The perfect anthem to wrap up a shitty goddamn year.
OMG they're back. I'm crying right now with tears of joy. This was certainly unexpected and completely changed my depression.
Duuuudeeee sameeeee i got the chills man
@@rachaelvice3381 Harrrrd chills. That lyricism is so haunting and beautiful.
Hang in there, friend
@@jordanwhetson320 nobody thought they did haha
Thats all it took.
Must not been that bad.
Go for how bad it actually was white bread:
"We cannot be saved by the men digging graves".
I've been listening to screamo, post hardcore, emo, metalcore for over 10 years and this is the first time hearing this band. I've come to the realization that if I'm not genuinely concerned for the vocalist's well being then I can't get into a band. This song proves it.
The world made us sick? How could it heal us?
You’d love their old stuff if you really want to be concerned. Peep the lyrics on petal
@@tpags7398 still remember that great moment hearing ebolarama for the first time, love that they’ve stayed consistently great
Holy FAAAAAAACCCCCKKKKKK!!!!! This is why ETID is my favorite EVER!!! They have yet to put out a single song that I haven't busted in my pants over. 🤘🤘🤘
It gets better and better, every time I listen to it.
If this song was a drink it would be half whiskey and half pre workout.
Awesome
this is a fantastic youtube dot comment well done
bravo
Ahahah nice one
Cheers to that!
They're quite simply the best. One of the only bands that just keeps getting better with every album they put out. They have never disappointed me and I am easily disappointed.
The breakdown at the end reminds me of the "drag the lake, you'll find it full of love" breakdown from Floater.
R.I.P. EVERY TIME I DIE 🖤

I got into this band with Low Teens, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting new material ever since. They didn’t disappoint

These lyrics and these licks. Like wtf can’t this band do?! This makes me stupid happy
I honestly cannot wait to get in a pit an experience this killer song with everyone!!!!
the most consistently amazing band ever.
4 Years I've been waiting for this. Thank u god
What other band has ever been no only so consistently amazing but evolve and break ground no matter what?
Converge.
@@isaacshrum5642 exactly i love every time i die but if not for converge half of todays metal wouldnt be the same. They crested a whole wave of bands that take influence from them.
One of the few metal bands that haven’t sold out after all of these years.
Will Putney is a perfect match for this band it seems like. I've always wondered what their process is in picking a producer, it's always someone different and each record stands on its own, especially From Parts Unknown. Like that record was as fucking Kurt Ballou as an ETID record can get. Very excited to hear what Will did with the rest of this.
I wasn't a huge fan of the production on ex lives not quite sure who did that one. But when from parts unknown came out fuckin instantly I knew it was Kurt Ballou and I loved it. I'm getting that same sorta feeling with this one.
Kurt is ALL OVER that album. It’s ETID drenched in Kurt Ballou lol. It has its pluses for sure, but it also comes with some caveats.
For one, the mix is super quiet, especially compared to other ETID records. But the biggest issue I have with it is that Kurt/ETID stole/homaged a shit ton of riffs from Black Breath for that record, which also recorded at godcity.
Listen to the first half of the track “Sentenced to Life” and put it alongside “Pelican of the Dessert” for example. Lots of stolen riffs. Actually, Sentenced to Life was hacked up and spread all across that record.
The opening riff of StL is aped for a soundalike for the opening riff of “If there is room to move...”, the long scream in StL is aped in “Idiot” when Keith screams “paralyzed”. The main riff of Pelican is just the main riff in StL with some squealies added in. Pelican at 0:22 StL at 0:32, nearly identical. Shit, even the guitar tone is nearly the same thanks to the HM-2 in the FX Loop of the amps.
Kurt recorded both of these at godcity. He knew those guitar parts intimately. He either shared them with the band, or the band did some kind of homage to Black Breath and godcity or something, because there is ZERO chance that shit was coincidental.
I’ve aped inspired guitar riffs from Cave-In and Dillinger and Coalesce and whoever, too, but I always acknowledged that in the notes and gave them the credit and shit. Being inspired by bands is one thing, but stealing from them is another thing entirely.
Idk. I’ve never seen or heard anyone else bring this up so I don’t even know if people realize it. Or maybe everyone knows and is in on it and I’m in the dark on the joke lol.
FPU is my favorite album from ETID, uprooting Big Dirty, or at least putting them both at 1a and 1b lol. But the sheer amount of music that they didn’t write that wound up on that record was SUPER surprising to me. All musicians take stuff from other musicians, that’s par for the course. But the sheer amount of Black Breath riffs on this album is staggering to me 🤷🏻♂️
@@wokeupinapanic I feel like you're reaching dude lol, maybe jordan and andy just like entombed and swedish dm in general, which you know, black breath literally worships and have probably stolen riffs too
@@rifqisetiadhi6731 yeah I stated that every musician steals riffs at some point. But the common denominator here is godcity. Kurt recorded both albums, and Black Breath really influenced the way he records and produces guitar tone.
I really don’t think it’s that far of a stretch. They’re literally the exact same riffs, just played slightly faster.
Also, you can’t tell me I’m “reaching” and then also admit that they stole the riffs. Either they didn’t or they did. And they did. I’m just pointing out the obvious examples.
They’re still my favorite musicians currently make music, but they ape a lot of shit.
@@wokeupinapanic Idk dude, regarding the stolen riffs thing, as far as i know Kurt is not the type of producer that would tell bands what to do in songwriting unless the band wants his input. By the time of fpu, etid has already established their own sound, i don't think etid would consciously ripoff riffs from another band.
Even if they did though, Kurt has recorded so many bands that use the hm2, I genuinely don't believe that the guys in etid would specifically ripoff black breath, out of all the bands that use the hm2 that kurt recorded because i don't really see black breath as a major influence on the way he records. Trap them has been doing that sound so much longer and so have many.
I think they just payed homage to a sound they were really influenced by, from a producer who made records in a specific way. I guess i just don't see having similar riffs as much of crime tbh, many bands live and die on the hm2, you could probably listen to some of those bands and hear a dismember or entombed riff they either sped up or slowed down in the way that Pelican is similar to Sentenced.
