I love this kind of qawwali/ classical Hindustani music. It is beautiful especially with Faiz Ali Faiz continuing on the legacy of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

What many ppl don´t know is that Qawwali is like the gospel music of Islam. So it´s very spiritual music, only about glorifying God/Allah. Long ago, the qawwals/singers...would only sing after performing ritual ablution called "wudhu" so that they were in a spiritually pure state to sing.
In Pakistan, many ppl therefore go into a trance- like state after listening to Qawwali, cause it´s so spiritual. Like the dervisches of Turkey etc. They swirl in trance.

Faiz is only improvising with so called "Taal" of Pakistani/Indian music. Instead of "Do, re, mi, fa", we use "Sa, re, ga, ma, pa, sa, ni" etc. That´s why he sometimes stops at "Pa!" and the tabla follows. Actually, most of the time either the tabla player plays and then the singer is supposed to "say back" the same with these syllables. But it also goes the other way. So the tabla plays what the singer says in form of "Ma, pa, ni, sa" etc. So it doesn´t mean anything in words.
