  • "Zak Brown lashes out at Max Verstappen: 'He wouldn't be champion without Red Bull'" | F1 News
    -----------------------
Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren, didn't hold back when discussing the situation of Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Although the Dutchman is clearly dominating Formula 1, Brown expressed some controversial opinions about his success.
According to Brown, both the driver and the car are crucial to winning in F1. In a podcast called "Beyond the Grid," he stated: "I don't think you're going to win without a star driver, so you need both. It starts with the car. People always ask me: is it the car or the driver? It's both."
Continuing his assessment, Brown suggested that six or seven other drivers on the grid could be world champions with Red Bull. Although he acknowledged Verstappen's talent, he asserted: "As great as Verstappen is, who's one of the greatest ever, I don't think he could win the World Championship in a car other than the Red Bull right now."
Brown even mentioned Sergio Pérez as an example, highlighting that he is an excellent driver who can occasionally compete with Verstappen. He concluded that while Verstappen continues to perform well, other drivers could succeed with the same team.
"If you look at the difference, Sergio Pérez is an excellent driver who has shown he can compete with Max from time to time. I think you need both because as Formula 1 gets closer, Max keeps doing well," was what McLaren's CEO stated.
While Brown praised Verstappen's talent, he also suggested that his success is intrinsically linked to the Red Bull team and that he couldn't be a champion in another outfit.

That's not lashing out; he calls Max one of the best ever but points out the truth, whiich is that even the one of the best can't be champion without a strong car.

Every factor has to come into play
However you can’t deny the fact that max is a phenomenal talent

Neither would Schumacher. without Ferrari.. nor Hamilton without Mclaren and Mercedes.
No one is champion alone, a driver needs a car to be able to perform his job

You could say that Schumacher improved Ferrari more than just by driving.
He really influenced and changed the Ferrari team organisation to make it a winning team which took him 4 years.

@@AlbertZonneveld And, again to some extent, did Lewis and Max. Those generational champions very rarely hop into a winning car, they tend to build a team around them.

The BrakeTester is given total No.1 Status at the DWT team. All his teammates have been spannered. The FIA have given the creature a cloak of immunity. The media have hyped the BrakeTester beyond the joke that he is. He has been driving the fastest car from 2019 onwards.
Hamilton the 8 x FIA F1 Rules champion, has had 3 FIA F1 Rules Champions as team mates and bested them all, to date Champion at McLaren then Mercedes and hopefully in the future at Ferrari. And never in a cost cap breaching car.

And zak brown wouldn't be running mclaren if he wasn't for his parents millions. The only talent zap brown has, is he was once a fast swimmer.

Not true. I've dealt with Zak, he's a very bright tough guy. BTW he used to race himself, but not very well ....

Max fully understands and appreciates his team's role. He never claimed he could win so many races in the worst car or anything.

Imagine swapping the drivers and cars around for 1 race, perhaps at the end of the season. F1 would never have it, it would make a mockery of their sport and 'stars'. Would also be tricky getting someone into Yuki's car...

Oh sure like evry WDC before and after only won because of the car right and pretty sure Lando in the future if Mclaren become Rocketship 2S lap faster it be because of the car but seem the drivers skills is not important it be nothing without rocketship loll😂

100% agree, mass is always wrong, today mass think max is the best driver of all time, this is ridiculous and most likely wrong, let see Max in an other car not designed 100% for him.
