I mounted a 5 gallon metal gas tank under the forward deck. It aids with lowering the bow during acceleration and serves well on long runs (motor uses more gas than you think it will). Don't use a plastic gas tank since they are electrostatically welded from two halves. With heat/cold expansion and the vibration of waves, the weld will break down and you will have gallons of gas in the boat (been there). When that hull planes out, you will be surprised at how quick it runs. Hope you have a blast.

Josh, remove the low oil sensor. It’s towards the front of the motor and that style of motor leans back. When the oil gets hot and runs to the back of the motor, the oil sensor will turn the motor off. It’ll save you headaches later and it only takes a few minutes to do by snipping the wire. Plenty of videos on CZcams about it. Just have to check your oil level before going out each time...which you should do anyway.

Make sure to get the boat registered the state of Kansas requires all vessels operated by a motor gas or electric to be registered and KA numbers visible on both port and starboard side. Also make sure you have all required safety equipment on board life jacket, throwable, navigation lights, ect. Just a friendly heads up, good luck!

You are right, you will want to turn the motor to the side. You will find on high wind days if you face the handle into the wind, then stomp the rudder into the mud, that it will hold you boat steady. Now this is for hunting a cross wind obviously. You may need a stick to hold the front end. I run a MoMarsh DP with a Backwater motor. My nephew a four rivers with a ppf like yours. His boat is faster.
