This looks new because the old OVA, Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, from like the 90s was redone about 7-8 years ago to be released with the DBZ Raging Blast 2 game because Hatchiyack, the villain, was a playable character in the game…along with Tarble!
Also Tarble is still alive XD
Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was in 2010
@@ssickhead1 The original movie was 93. 2010 was the remaster.
@@ssickhead1 did you not see the old footage when they said Trunks shattered the time in this? The original Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was in the 90s.
What you’re talking about was the remastered/remade version they did for Raging Blast 2 because Hatchiyack was a playable character in the game. That’s the more modern animated version TFS used for this special.
@@NarutoTsunadefan1 bro...i'm correcting the fact that you said 7-8 year ago
@@ssickhead1 To be more specific, the original Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans was in 1993 and part of a game that came out back then.
The Plan to Eradicate The Saiyans was an OVA bundled with Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2, remade/reanimated from an OVA from a different game in the 90s.
The additional animation was mostly Goku's expressions - you can really tell when he realises Santa isn't dead.
The original game was also called The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans.
The remake got retitled The Plan To Eradicate The Super Saiyans, though.
You're not dealing with the average christmas movie anymore!
Vegeta:….noooooo…! 😰
Omg it's gone super movie!
@@cedricmartin9109”…god dammit…kakarot….”
@@brendaspence1824Vegeta, YES!!!
Broly duhhh… is the DEVIL
That "punchline" dialogue between Frieza and Cooler is _so good_ it gets me every time.
Tarble lived on some other planet and found a wife. So i guess in tfs canon vegeta shot him down and he landed there lol
Technically he's still alive here too since Santa basically said it WAS his slay that was hit. So Tarbles pod wasn't hit.
It's sort of crazy that Trunks has family members he knows nothing about like Tarble or Tights.
To be fair, Toriyama knew nothing about them either, back then :P
Bulmas VA died right after the team set off to the Tournament of Power, and her final words were something like "goodbye everyone, do your best"
This episode was of an OVA that came out with a game, and it was a remake of an old OVA that came with a game. Before Super came out, this and DragonBall Yo! were the two newest made DragonBall specials
If you're curious about Tarble there is a special OVA called "Yo Son Goku and his friends Return" where you discover about his whereabouts and why he was gone for a long time
he was considered a weakling and sent to conquer a planet to redeem himself, but planet vegeta was destroyed a little bit after that, and he ended up befriending the alien species instead conquering them, and eventually became their King by marrying their Princess/soon to be queen. Vegeta wasn't 100% sure if he was alive or not, but recognized him when he showed up.
Two of Freiza's lieutenants got tired of trying to look for Cooler to inform him about about Frieza and King Cold's deaths (since he left back when Freiza was named the official heir to carve out his own empire in unknown space), and decided to just take over the organization themselves as they were of similar power to First Form Freiza (which split between them and Sorbet's loyalist faction who wanted to either contact Cooler or find some way to revive Freiza and/or his father).
After learning his brother was alive and mistakeningly assuming he was the one who killed Freiza (as that's what a lot of Freiza's forces assumed at the time), Tarble and his wife came to earth to ask for Vegeta's help to defeat Freiza's minions, who followed them.
This is one of my favorites because Goku's little speech before clapping "Santa" is actually a good holiday message. This time of year isn't about gifts, food, Santa, or any figure or idol. It's about coming together with the people you love and spreading good will. Happy Holidays!
And killing Santa
In the 90s, DBZ made a Japanese only OVA called "Plan to Eradicate The Sayains", with it's main villain being a member of the Tuffle race. The same species as Baby in GT. But sometime before Battle of Gods. They adapted the OVA into a video game plot for people living in the West. Believe the name was called Raging Blast. Which explains the new animation used in this abridged version.
Oh no, the original OVA pulled double-duty serving as a strategy guide for the Famicom game of the same name, and had then been converted into a video game (for the Japan-only Playdia console), and the remake for Raging Blast 2 was released in Japan as well, and it wasn't integrated into the game, but used as a "bonus movie" within the game itself.
It wasn't really an ova, it was part of a game that never released outside japan. Something to do with cards.
Forgot the name of the exact game.
@@winterweather0091 It was an OVA, that also served as a strategy guide for the Famicom card battle game. After that the footage was repurposed for a Playdia game.
The games' names were, well, Dragon Ball Z Side Story: The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans.
@@B.-T. Yeah, that game. it was sort of like those vhs board game set-up's
"Ho-Ho-Ho-ver. They really did that."
Yes, the team did a lot of things here.
“Hey Melons, it’s guys here” lmao can’t even tell if that was on purpose or not
This is from a PS3 game, called dragon ball, raging blast. This was something included in the extra features. It’s a mini dragon movie.
As a Weird Al fan, I'm glad they ended the special with a piano cover of The Night Santa Went Crazy; really appropriate song, given what was going on in this special.
The night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nick went insane
Realized he'd been gettin' a raw deal
Something finally must have snapped in his brain
Always love how TFS made instant transmission made that popping sound... 🤣🤣
Except for the "epilogue" at the end at Goku's house, everything else was officially animated. This originally was an OVA made back in 1993. But when Raging Blast 2 was released, they remade the OVA with Super's artstyle (or rather Dragon Ball Heroes's artstyle since Heroes started in 2010).
"He knows even the lower class' names, I'm kind of impressed."
It's not like he has that many to remember.
I believe Tarble is alive in canon, there was the small special with him. And I believe Vegeta mentioned him in Super at some point, forgot when though
Plan to eradicate the saiyans was a very old choose your own adventure game with animated scenes.
This was reanimated for dbz kinect I think. Maybe it was raging blast 2?
Raging Blast 2, because Hatchiyack was a playable character
So was Tarble. Who gets mentioned in this. Might have been why they decided to mention him actually
No, it was originally released as an OVA that was also serving as a strategy guide for the Famicom game of the same name... and then converted into its own video game for the Playdia.
Crazy to think about how resistant you were to watching DBZ adbridged when you watched the first chapter? Hahahaha amazing how now you love it
Facts. I seriously loved watching it so much. I think not watching Dbz for years then going back into it with the abridged was just perfect:)

It was originally a arcade game video segments with quick time prompts. It is only within the last 10 years it was made into a formal movie
The absolute over-the-top acting from Goku when he first realizes itsSanta and the “I knew it!“ When he finds out Santa isn’t actually dead are the best parts for me
I just love how nonchalant Vegeta is in this movie
Technically tfs tarble is still alive since vegeta thought he hit his brother but it really was santa (im just guessing bc I really love tarble lol)
So, Santa in this movie is in canon Dr. Raichi, and he is a Tuffle wanting revenge on the Saiyans for what they did to his home planet. The whole thing with the machines was they were producing Destron Gas, which not only manifested into the villains Frieza, Cooler, Lord Slug, and Turles, but also basically intended to choke out everyone on Earth. The "Super Santa" is Hatchiyack, a machine created by Dr. Raichi basically fueled by hatred, with Raichi's death keeping Hatchiyack going through sheer hatred of Saiyans alone. Also yes its heavily ironic that someone who hates Saiyans with a burning passion would have a Saiyan be one of his "dark warriors". As for the subtitles, they do state his real name and all, but he IS the real Santa in TFS, as evidenced by the fact he specifically mentions Vegeta shooting at his sleigh, and of course knowing exactly what Gohan wanted: Moby Dick in French. Finally, Hatchiyack's weakness: He's very strong yes, but he is left WIDE OPEN as he charges his Revenger Cannon. So they all combined their energy blasts to take him out in one shot when he can't even dodge. I'll give TFS Goku props for being the one to notice it, really shows how he is indeed battle smart.
Tarble, Vegeta's brother, was sent off-world to die as a low-class Saiyan due to his low power level at birth. He later showed up in a special where he and his native wife were being chased by a pair of Frieza goons who'd somehow gotten strong enough to fight Frieza's First Form on even terms. Of course, when they did show up on Earth, they promptly got their collective shit kicked in by Goten & Trunks while Tarble just stood there uselessly like any other idiot doomsayer.
Edit: Also, the special itself was actually about a scientist wanting revenge on the Saiyans for destroying his race back during their original conquest of Planet Vegeta (after the destruction of their true homeworld, Sadala). Just thought I'd drop that. TFS took it in a completely different direction by making it a Christmas special.
The animation they did was when Gohan got his present. Looking back, the original movie was pretty good, Bulma actually had a role, and the villain was defeated using Goku's superior technique and experience, instead of just a power up. Basically, Goku realized his attacks were predictable, that's why he was dodging so easily at the end.
1. Teamfourstar did not animate this, however they did add extra art for example the gift to gohan was tfs's extra art.
2. This is a special made in 2010 henceforth it looks in DBSuper's style.
3. The special is based on a video game called DBZ side Story: plan to eradicate the saiyans that came out in august 1993.
4. Obviously this is a redub to the 2010 special called "Plan to Eradicate The Super Saiyans".
Hope I cleared some confusion.
8:58
Yeah before Freeza showed up they tried to blast it, but were blocked by a forcefield
So this one was apparently based of an ova called Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. While there WAS a 60 minute 2 part (assuming ~30 minutes each) original that was released in 1993 (probably the footage used in the trunk messing up the timelines joke), there was actually a 30 minute remake in 2010 with DBZ Kai art style
(I literally just looked this up so I’m actually not familiar with it, but wanted to do a little research on it myself & figured I’d share it in case someone else wanted to look for the original story)
So the villain's weakness that Goku noticed was that it took him 15 seconds to charge his attack, so they had to blast him before then. Also this takes place after Broly because in the original Goku says something like " This guy might be stronger than Broly"
That "this is my jam" from Goku is a reference to the fact that he's obsessed with "Santa Claus is coming to town."
12:19 Hi Melon 😄 What the Super reference meant was that despite Beerus and Whis warning him, Goku pushed and pushed Grand Zeno to hold an all-universe tournament of power hoping to fight all the strongest fighters in existence. Once it was granted, it was revealed that only one universe would survive and the universes who lost the tournament would be erased from existence. So Goku put his entire universe in danger all so he could get a workout. 😆
The OG of this is a remake of an animation that came with a video game. So most of it is the explanation of how the game is happening (and the secret ending). I'm pretty sure this is still the only English "dub" of the OVA.
Plan to eradicate the saiyans was a later movie, I think it came out around the time of the one with the space pirate trapped in King Kai's planet.
0:50 - 0:54
To be fair, this wasn't a movie. As many have pointed out, it was technically an OVA they made and animated for a Famicom game called "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" which was kind of a "choose your own adventure" kind of thing, then they reanimated it and added the cutscenes to the video game, Raging Blast 2 as "Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans". That explains why there is a moment of older looking footage used for the moment at 11:17 - 11:29
1:43 - 2:04
I love the little song detail of the chanting in this moment saying "Santa Claus comes", being slight foreshadowing to the plot of the special.
As far as the animation for this, it's pretty much the animation style "Modern" Dragon Ball has had, it was mainly started in a lot of the video games during the 2000's for reanimated scenes in 2D when we hit the Xbox 360/PS3 era. I'm not sure which one actually started it though.
Also for Vegeta's brother Tarble, since Santa confirms that it was his sleigh that was hit, it means Tarble is alive in the DBZA timeline! Yay! And he was in a special, "Yo Son Goku and His Friends Return" but it was a short special that (as of this comment) has yet to be localized and is at best only in Japanese Dub/English Sub.
The reason it looked like DB Super's style was probably because of Tadayoshi Yamamuro. If I'm not mistaken, he's an animation supervisor with a very distinct art style, that being the DB Super artstyle or what some fans would call: the plastic style.
He was an animator who worked on Dragon Ball from way back and he slowly climbed up the ranks with him being an assistant supervisor near the end of the Namek Saga and becoming a animation supervisor during the Androids/Cell Saga. He was the one who created the character sheets for the Buu Saga and is the main reason for why that saga has such a distinct style (Not that the other arcs don't have distinct styles).
As he continued with his job throughout the years, his style slowly evolved (or devolved in some fans' opinions), and it later became the style you see in the DB Super's anime. His corrections are pretty heavy which don't allow for the key animators' styles to show as easily as they did in DB or DBZ, but there are the few cases where the corrections do ease up allowing for scenes like the Goku Black sequence from Naotoshi Shida in the Future Trunks Saga.
In canon, Tarble is still alive. They have only shown him once in an OVA special. He then gets mentioned in Battle of Gods/ Super by Vegeta and Bulma
Tarble is alive, we just don't see much of him in the series.
the enemy they fought in the tournament of power that was a bunch of enemies combined, the one that eliminated 18 is a reference to this villain
Originally an OVA from 1993, it was a supplement to an old NES game and then came later as a bonus with Dragonball: RagingBlast 2 with remade animation it was basically a video game plot made anime.
Answering all questions
Plan to eradicate the sayians was a 90s ova to dbz
It was redone and adapted with hatchyack as the villain as a unlockable for dbz raging blast 2 called eradicate the super sayians
Also no tarble is still alive and married
Also while broly isn't in this movie in the og dialog of this movie goku says he's even stronger than broly is
Reference to the Tournament of power always gets me
So Tarble actually isn't dead. Vegeta's long lost brother appears in a fun and short little OVA.
They couldn't destroy the smoke machines because of an energy field. Vegeta tried before the smoke villains showed up. Bulma just kinda got rid of the smoke with some anti-smoke(?) capsules that she made.
I get the vibe she was one of the fans constantly commenting "when broly!" back in the day
20:49 It was DBAZA “Christmas” villains. (Turles was “Christmas Tree of Might” and Lorde Slug WASN’T Christmas but he froze the earth, so Goku thought it was Christmas the whole time. Lol)
In super he put all the universes at stake for the sake of a tournament, hired a Hitman to kill him and didn't warn anybody, keeps letting Frieza stay alive despite him actively being a intergalactic genocider and if I remember correctly he also antagonized Zamasu which led to future trunks's timeline getting erased.
I mean tbf the last one felt like it was inevitably going to happen considering that Zamasu already had a hate boner for all mortals, Goku was just the example needed to reaffirm his beliefs. So I wouldn't blame Goku for that one. Goku asked a small spar and Zamasu's ego couldn't handle that a mere mortal could surpass the gods.
Correction on a few of your statements:
1. Goku didn’t antagonizing Zamasu but rather pushed him over the edge after fighting him.
2. Goku actually saved the other universes from instantly being erased as Zeno was planning on erasing those universe if Goku never brought up the tournament.
as cross pointed out. the tournament of power always gets entirely reframed to make goku look like the villain. if anything, people should be thankful to him. xeno was planning to destroy those universe anyway. if anything goku saved them from xeno just picking at random and he gave them a literal fighting chance to survive.
@@cross_rdiance7968 Sure the outcome turned out positive but Goku didn't know Zeno was gonna do that before they made the bet so from Goku's POV he did stake the universes without a second thought.
Actually, he didn't know that Zeno was going to have the losing universes wiped out. Also, Zeno was going to wipe out a load of universes anyway so if you think about it if he didn't give Zeno the idea those universe would have been permanently gone. That Zamasu point is flat out stupid, Zamasu got angry because of his moronic views that mortals shouldn't be as powerful as they are and all Goku did was spar a little with him, he was polite with him the whole time and even complimented his power, it's not Goku's fault that someone who is suppose to be a Supreme Kai apprentice turned out rotten to the core.
Tarble was featured in a short dbz film called
Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends
The special was a remake of an old interactive japanese game from the 90's, which originally released with Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 for ps3 and Xbox360. Hope that simple explaination helped, Merry Christmas 🎅
Vegeta tried to blast the machine the moment they pulled up on it, it’s funny how quick you forgot that and were wondering why they didn’t try to attack the machine. 😆
The Omni King actually planned to destroy all the universes that were chosen for the tournament while Goku actually saved everyone because he suggested the tournament. And yes universe seven would have been destroyed without warning had it not been for the tournament.
eradicate the saiyans was a special that didn't release over seas till the remaster of it for raging blast 2 game where it was a special on it, thats why the animation looks more updated then the others of the same time period.
It was a remake
+1 for Vegeta's best Christmas ever.
Also, I don't even listen to the subbed version, but that tag-on at the end for Bulma's VA _always_ gets me.

bulmas voice actress has voiced bulma longer then im alive (37 years old) and has been the first character besides goku that was part of the cast. shot goku in the face with a gun in the first dragon ball episode when goku was a kid. crazy
This is one of my favorite TFS specials just for the ghost villains. Frieza and Cooler arguing, Turles' interaction with the other Saiyans and of course SLUUUUUUUUUUUUG!
Tarble comes from another OVA, Son Goku and His Friends, i think. dude shows up with his alien wife, being chased by 2 goons that are trying to pull a Frieza, so Goku and Vegeta kick their butts, celebrations are made, yadda yadda. cute story, but i don't remember much of it
The only animated Gohan getting his present. This is an actual movie about eradicating the sayians
There are 25 Christmas puns in this movie. See if YOU can spot them all!
Tarble is Vegeta's brother that brings Avo and Cado to Earth for Gotenk's to fight (play with) in Super.
"Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" was a movie-like videogame with multiple paths to choose, which was later condensed into an OVA with the same name. Years later, this OVA was remastered as "Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans", which is what was used as a base for this parody.
When Goku Called Piccolo a Minor i was like what then i remembered he was only like 4-5 years older than Gohan.
Yeah it makes sense until he mentioned bulma
I'd forgotten about the DB Super ad gag, that shit cracked me up so much
fun fact about the original movie. In Germany you got it for free if you bought a specific videogame xDD Thats how much faith they had in this movie xDD
Actually, because of Goku, the Tournament of Power occurred much sooner. Everyone keep saying it's Goku's fault that multiverses are in danger, but Xenou was planning on obliterating all the other universes anyways regardless of whether Goku asked or not. It was an eventuality, not if. Even then, Goku is the reason he gave a single universe among all those that competed a chance to survive, and it's also thanks to Android 17 that all of them were wished back.
The footage is from the 2010 remake plan to eradicate the saiyans and the ending is from TFS
8:16 Vegeta already tried to destroy it, but it wasn't destroyed
If they did animate this it'd be an incredible undertaking for them. It was probably already answered since I'm like a day late. But this movie's animation comes from an undubbed movie called plan to eradicate the sayians. It was only released on the game dbz raging blast 2 if I'm right.
did you really say "hwy melon, its guys here" 😂 good to see you enjoying those reactions.
Merry Christmas Melon loved your reactions to DBZA
Idk if you watched super but around the time the VA for Bulma died they changed the outro of Super to have a focus on Bulma.
Okay, so this was originally an OVA called "Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans" which came out at some point during the Cell saga. I think it was attached to a video game, so it was never dubbed into English. It was reanimated a few years ago (hence the Super look) and again released alongside a game. The joke with Trunks about the space-time continuum is footage from the original OVA.
This, episode 60 epilogue, and Dragon Shortz episode 2 all came out on my birthday.
Team Four Star also did a Happy Freeza Day vid:
"A Freeza Day | HFIL Christmas Special"
The movie came out before Super cause I remember watching it when it was new and it was a nice short special, around the time the Vegita's brother special with him crash landing on the planet thinking Freeza's still alive and going with freeza's orders and fights with goten/trunks. Thats all I remember cause I dont feel like looking it up on google lol
Brief screen time shared between Freezer and Cooler is absolute comedy gold. I really wish Cooler joins HFIL just so we can get more of the pair!
This ova was a remake of an old ova from the 90s. The old one was to promote the villain of an old video game and the new one was basically the same, but you could unlock and watch the ova in the game
Yeah you missed why they didn’t destroy the machine, it had a force field surrounding it
Actually the wiki revealed that Tarbel is not dead in tfs he just got stranded on another planet
8:55 They *TRIED* to blast it, and it had a shield to protect it from blasts. Maybe if they tried harder they could've gotten through the shield, but then the villains showed up and wouldn't give them a chance to.
This is the best and only real interaction between Freeza and Cooler.
They are not Freeza and Cooler but hate clones, so no.
This is the only English dub of this movie. The versions that came with the games is in Japanese. TFS for Life.
Hey quick history. So plan to eradicate the saiyans originally was an OVA made based on Dragon Ball Z video game. From wikipedia--- "The game sold 300,000 copies, and was adapted into a 1993 original video animation (OVA) series that was released in two parts as strategy guides. " So it was made for a 1993 video game. But in 2010 a new game was released Dragon Ball Z Raging Blast 2. It had a the main villain from that OVA in it as playable character. So a whole new OVA was made. So this is 2010 animation. The original was much longer and more fleshed out. It was honestly pretty sad how boring this actual OVA was. Also I own raging blast 2 and first saw this OVA in the game. You can find the original OVA online. Like I said its more fleshed out and its more good looking in my opinion because it looks just like any 90s Dragon Ball and rightly so since it was made in 1993.
My god, for a moment i thought you weren't gonna react to this one. It was one of the last they released
The reason why it looks like Dragonball Super is because this particular animation (Plan to eradicate the Saiyans) was released in 2010. It's pretty much a remake of the original which was released on VHS in 1993. It also had a videogame adaptation back then.
It was also supervised by Tadayoshi Yamamuro (the character designer and supervisor of animation in Super). Who has earned his reputation as an early legend and sort of notorious as of recent in the animation community.
Tarble (ターブル Tāburu) is a Saiyan and the youngest child of King Vegeta, the estranged, younger brother of Vegeta, and husband to a peculiar alien named Gure.
Oh, and it was the Christmas Movie Villians- Xmas Tree of Might, Slug's Xmas in July, Frieza for Frieza Day...
5:00 nope he's not dead. they confirmed that everyone got confused and thought he was dead in their story. but nope. they simply never found his body so there's no proof that he died "had an uncle" just means they never found him.
I somehow never saw this special despite seeing everything else they did multiple times! Its a xmas miracle!
Goku with the terrible puns😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sidenote, the actual flick is "Plan to Eradicate all Saiyans".
Also...yeah..tournament of power. Goku did endanger the universe asking for a tournament. 12 actually!
Makes you think that they probably could've beaten Cell if they all did a combined blast like that instead of just sending Gohan out there alone.
"Hey Melon, it's Guys." 🤭
Also, they did try to destroy the black smoke machine. Vegeta shot it and it did nothing.
The animation's about a decade old at this point. It's a remaster of an OVA from 1993.
“This literally looks like Dragonball Super animation!”
Ouch
