Thank you for this series! You have given me some great ideas for my photo shoots from now on. Just one of the many points that blew my mind was when you talked about bokeh being more obvious at 55mm rather than at a wider angle. I had never thought about focal length affecting depth of field. Also...using burst mode with bugs. Please keep these videos coming!

Love the format, love the idea. Please do more of these. I feel your aperture is just a stop wider than I would have guessed. Is this to do with sensor size? Great of you to show pics in which you think with hindsight that you could have had a slightly different setting.

I was also thinking exactly this. I mean, he is an amazing teacher via youtube, but he could totally make the jump to a college or high school photography class.
Visually I'm a firstly compositional thinker. I walk or drive around, looking ... and decide which focal length and d.o.f. I want for capture. That necessarily then brings me to aperture (unless the subject is action). So for me I'd place your first column as _third_ because auto vs manual is merely the method to reach how I use the first two choices.
The trouble with photography is that ultimately ain't none of it unimportant. The other day I participated in a quick and casual shoot or my kid and her friends indoors, all dressed up to go to "a formal" (middle school dance.)
I brought one lens, the wrong one, because I prioritized its low light capability instead of firstly being able to capture the scenes (focal length). Rookie mistake.

As a beginner to intermediate photographer I find it really valuable to hear you talk through your thought process. Videos about the settings and what they do is helpful but giving it the context and understanding how you’re using them is awesome.
Loved this one...shared it with my college student son who is struggling to understand all these things with his current professor (who he finds boring and not super helpful) your style of coaching will really help him "get it"....thanks for this!!!

Thank you for parts 1 & 2. I’m always reviewing the basics, especially since January when I got the XT30 for travel. Great clarity in explaining things & I knew there was a reason I never use auto ISO. by the way , if your Belgium trip isn’t canceled due to the Virus you should visit the Antwerp train station- it’s an architectural phenomenon.
Love these type of videos. Understanding the process for each photo makes it easier to prepare for when you want to try something similar. Thanks

I think that in Fuji Cameras if you set the Dynamic Range to Auto at scene with harsh contrasting light it will go to something like DR 200% and boost the ISO up so people if you don't want the camera to pick higher ISO when you leave Auto ISO maybe consider turning off DR Auto
Very helpful. Maybe I can move up to intermediate soon. One thing I’ve found is that even with aperture priority one has a tendency to think the camera will work it out and one doesn’t pay due attention to the detail. Good video Omar

Awesome.... I learn so much. I usually shoot with vintage lenses so most of the time i do manual on my xt3.
In both my Canon cameras, I use exposure compensation in manual mode with Auto ISO. It's the closest you can get to full manual without worrying too much about exposure between shots.

Think I will make my own little cheat sheet and analysis some of my own shots because I am often just twirling dials out there, and need to get my thoughts more organized in order to pick correct settings. Omar. Thank you. Indeed a great learning process to consolidate how to take pictures. I have an XT1 and I usually take photos in Aperture (A) priority. In the pass I took it in Manual mode, but in A mode it is faster and photos come well.. Normally my ISO is most of the time in manual, because the camera has trend to go to high ISO and that brings noise in my old sensor. Anyway, I will try more often to automatic ISO limited to ISO 800 for outdoors . The other issue is photos in burst modern and now I become more aware of the advantages . I will be interested in Manual focus combine with the use of back bottom focus (AF L.). In continuos focusing mode this camera it is not very good- it does not follow the objects. Thanks Omar. Didn't realise how much higher your F stop needs to be when shooting close up. Also had no idea you can increase bokeh by using a higher focal length. V. useful to see the thought process. Great video format!
Very helpful, Omar! I've been using manual mode on the Fuji X-t3 except for auto ISO. However, I've been doing this without too much thought process. Now, with all these other elements you're bringing into the picture, I am forced to think about what is happening in the camera. By doing this, I'm gaining a better understanding of processing all the elements in my mind, which prevents complacency. Thanks, Omar!

Great video, extremely helpful. Bookmarked. I like seeing the thought process and I hope I can retain some of it. Not sure why, but when I use exposure compensation, I often get my it backward from what I want to accomplish and have to take a second (or third) shot.

Thanks for these videos. Doing a little prep before a trip to Colorado with my new X-T30 upgrade from the X30. You're right the Q button is annoying and the missing d-pad is a bummer, I but couldn't pass up the price for the body and kit that I found. Also splurged on the 16mm 1.4 which I realize is total overkill for a newbie, but I missed the close focus distance of my X30 so much.
