Well done on your 1k subscribers. I'm on the MLA course next month and you've taught me so much over lockdown (without you realising) to "get myself ready" Cheers Mate.
I haven’t seen that double peak rake style blade before who sells them I always love your videos thank you as a footnote six weeks from my quadruple bypass surgery and I’m doing great
Will a thumb turn wire not work on this cylinder? You’re videos are very good and well explained. Just found out that you only live down the road from me. If you would like to meet up for a coffee and have a chat some time would be nice. I am now semi retired warrant Lockie.
Are you in Blackburn Martin? And no the thumb turn wires won’t work on this unfortunately, as a basic rule of thumb any British Standard or one star and above cylinder the wire won’t work on as most brands got rid of the design flaw that allowed them to be bypassed
@@FortressLocksmiths thanks for the prompt reply. Yes I live about a mile away. Would like to meet and have a chin wag if you want. I could give you a ring when it is convenient for you. if that’s ok with you. I do very little work these days and could possibly pass you the odd job.
@@Martin-hl8sz yep that is absolutely fine with me, I generally spend time with the family over weekends (unless it’s an emergency lock out) but feel free to give me a ring anytime during the week to meet up for a brew
What about putting some serrations on your tension tool to keep the tension on the cam so it basically jams in the key way ps good camera work keep it up son
Cheers matey, and yes they are very formidable cylinders, plenty of pick protection, can’t snap them and definitely cannot lock pull them due to the firing pin in the centre of the cam 😳😳
Cheers mate, and yeah lever mortice picking is one of the harder parts of our job but you just have to practice all the time for that, at least an hour a day
Sorry I'm so late to the party, but did you have any joy with the cut down key method? I'm wondering if once in the trap pins, a bump key could get you out and engage the cam at the same time, just for split second. Could that be enough to move the cam a few degrees past the trap pins so you could pick it up again with the long tension tool?
The only thing is with a bump key you’ll struggle to get it in on the position because the pins that aren’t in the trap position are solid so they key won’t go past unless it’s really really low cut. The problem is that with the thumb turn the cam has to be constantly engaged so constant forward pressure is needed. It’s the same with ABS even when you use the dedicated GJ pick if you release pressure even slightly you’ll lose the cam and you won’t even know it if it’s in the door. The cut down key on a plug spinner is the only way past it I can see
Hadn't considered the bump key not fitting - my bad. Sounds like the plug spinner/key is the only way. I was faced with one of these on a lockout last week, pure luck that it was a ground-floor flat with a window left on a nightlatch. Air bags popped that right open. Not sure if I would have got in otherwise. Thanks for the reply, your channel has some really great content.
@@liamperkins3721 the key/key cylinder is relatively easy to pick and once you’ve got the cam you’ve got it so doesn’t matter if you take your tension tool out etc ….think I’ll have another bash at my training centre tomoz 💪🏻🔑

I don't understand why manufacturers don't ALL provide a way to prevent lock turners being used (e.g. through a letterbox) on thumbturns e.g. a button or push to engage etc.
On this particular one it is push to engage, BUT , the ironic thing is it actually left the customer locked out even though he had the key , if it wasnt in the 12/6 o clock position you couldn’t insert the key, they did away with this feature
@@FortressLocksmiths Avocet did away with the need to push to engage the thumbturn because of the lockouts. You can still push the thumbturn in but doing so makes no difference as it works without anyway! Annoying as I specifically wanted one where you needed to do something to engage the thumbturn.
@@richiero0o0 yep I’ve got a load of them at the training centre and the one in the video is the only one that you physically need to push in to engage the cam , the only other one that i know of is the Yale Conexis , but they are shite
