    • @Wolfylm
      @Wolfylm Před 4 lety +10

      It's a decent story : complicated, with a lot of reflexions on the death, the life and connexions between people, but decent and really good if you like to analyse the different symbolisms of the story. Ok there is some cheesy moments, but there are just a few, and after all they can quite lighten up a little the subject of the game some times. Besides it’s not a new things in kojima’s games.
      On the fact that one character have Clifford as his name, it is not because of the fact that Sam save him from a cliff. Don’t want to spoil the game, but this character is not define by this fact at all… It’s his name, and as always in the Kojima’s games, there are other important symbolics. (like almost all the names of the protagonists of death stranding). If you read all the interviews, reports and emails from the game, you discover that the story has even more layer and complexity.
      Death Stranding is not perfect. There is some imperfections and problems in its menus, where you pass a lot of time, so this is really annoying when you play. There is some abrupt difficulty spikes when you arrive in some chapters of the game : when you are forced to make fast and big gunfights, if in the rest of the game you use only sneak attacks and never gunfight. An other big flaw of this game is the fact that you need to play a lot after the completion of the story, if you want to read all the interviews, reports and emails, and discover the full story of the game. At last, it’s true that the finish of the game with almost 2 hours of cinematics is really too long.
      But definetely, the story is one of its good point if you ready to take time to analyse it. You can don't like it of course, but saying that is not decent and full of bushits. Well if it is the case, not a lot of games have decent narrative and story in all the video game production.

    • @Wolfylm
      @Wolfylm Před 4 lety +1

      @Cyberpunks Witcher Nope i am the kind to see many plot holes in the last star wars movies ;) But you can always see the good points and the bad points of one work. For me, except for the photography and the wonderful work on the visual effect and colours, i am not a fan of these last movies because of the way their story was conducted. I am in fact really severe on the quality of the narrative structure of films, games or books.
      I am actually still playing at Death Stranding, after having finish the main story, to read all the interviews, reports and emails. And well for me, the story is complexe but coherent and let see that it was thinked a lot when writen down. I don't say it's perfect, but for me it's decent and really better than some others.
      But every one can have there own point of view, it's not a problem for me.

    The game that broke my heart is going to have to be Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
    This post contains SPOILERS. So fair warning.
    The game opens with a home movie of a father and daughter at a theme park and the daughter proclaiming how much she loves her daddy.
    Then the game begins in traditional Silent Hill fashion with the father and daughter in a car accident. Father wakes up to find his daughter missing. Enters Silent Hill to find her.
    The levels are interrupted by a short therapy session as you are relaying the events of the level to your therapist. Since you are playing as the father, it's assumed that it's the father in therapy.
    Fast forward to the end, and it's revealed that the father died in the car accident and the short therapy sessions are actually of the daughter recounting the type of person you are. (The game takes note if you stare at sexual content or alcohol for an extended time).
    The game then ends with another home video (depending on how you played).
    Your daughter could have found a home video of her father cheating on her mom. She could have found a video of her father in a drunken abusive stupor. She could have found a video of her father being abused by her mother. She could have found a video of her parents getting divorced.
    This game broke my heart because I'm a father of little girls and I do everything I can to be their hero and my heart broke seeing that little girl's happy childhood memories being replaced with pain and hurt.

I mean seeing the look in Murray's eyes holding Bently's broken ass, after prying him from clockla's jaws, was heart breaking. Caleb Burnham I cant get through death stranding. I tried to give it a chance but idk it was just so disappointing imo. That game was hyped for over 3 years and to find out it’s basically just 40 hours of walking with one of the most convuluted stories I’ve ever seen just turned me off of it. Also another thing I didn’t like about was that there was way too much expositional dialogue. Seriously man throughout the entire game they never just showed us how the characters were feeling, in every situation they’d have the characters directly tell you in every single scene what their feeling which isn’t good storytelling. Sam would literally spout of pages and pages worth of dialogue reiterating how he’s feeling, what he’s done and what he’s about to do which is unnecessary because it already showed you all of that ugh it’s frustrating just thinking about it lol I’m prolly not doing a good job of explaining it but I hope you get what I’m trying to say

      I agree with RDR2, but because of the inevitability of it, not because of any 'twist'. Once you get back from the island, it's one long, slow slide to your final fate. I LOVE the game, but could never play it again...not with the knowledge of how it ultimately ends. Even thinking about 'That's The Way It Is' can make me teary...listening to it can get me sobbing!

    Nearly 20 years on but the end of Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented still sticks with me. When Rei tells the ghost of Yuu "I just wanted to see you one more time." That and the Willie Nelson song in Red Dead 2. I knew John couldn't escape due to the events of Red Dead 1 but seeing John deal with being trapped in his violent life is a gut punch.

    Solas broke my heart in Dragon Age Inquisition. I went through the whole romance, he did the thing for my elf girl (don't wanna spoil it for people) then shattered my heart into a thousand pieces. I sat there crying while watching the cutscene/conversation unfold as my (now ex) bf was sat next to me like "dude, I'm right here!" My reply? "HE BROKE MY HEART!"

    Jules right as always. Tali is the best videogame girlfriend, and I screwed up in the games with some of her quests and she ended up killing herself in the 3rd. I literally screamed at the screen and immediately shut off the game. I went back a save and ended up saving her, but holy carp I was shook.

    In one playthrough of Dragon Age origins where Loghain has to be executed for his crimes and his daughter Anora is vehemently trying to do anything to prevent this and he just turns to her and says 'Anora... it's over.' Emotional moment when the 'villain' is more concerned about his daughter's emotional state then his own demise.

      That scene was terrible, no questioning that. But it was one small part in an otherwise great story, which it sounds like he didn't even finish. I've noticed over the years that Scott will hate pretty much any story that has any complication in the plot and isn't completely straightforward. The only exception is Metal Gear. I find it baffling that he hates all these other great games with the slightest amount of convolution but loves just that one, which is arguably the most convoluted series in gaming history.

    So I read this somewhere, and I've decided it's the only way that slow motion scene at the end of Death Stranding makes sense:
    It's a reference to Lindsay Wagner's time playing the Bionic Woman, back in the 70's. Lindsay plays both Bridget and Amelie, and on the Bionic Woman (just like on the Six Million Dollar Man), every time she had to run REALLY REALLY FAST to rescue someone, they'd use slow motion to show she was using her powers.
    It's a really oblique reference, but it's literally the only way I can get past it.
    I loved the rest of the game SO MUCH that... I need this. I need to believe this.

    Joel & Sarah... Sarah's out of nowhere and pointless death... AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FRICKIN' GAME!!! This scene turned me from a retired old fart to a gut-punched heart wrenched teary-eyed teenaged boy all over again! I had to stop playing for a few days before I went back to it. I can't imagine someone hurting and holding one of the kids while their life just goes away.

    Mine is definitely Gears 2 and 3, well, a character transition through both games. You see Dom going through this journey to finding his wife and near the end of the game, you do find her. But she's in a terrible state and near death. Dom first sees her in perfect condition but it's all a fantasy in his head and he sees how she is really like. He then drew his gun and the screen cuts away to Marcus standing somewhere else and you hear a gun shot. Dom ended his own wife's suffering after spending years on trying to find her.
    Next game, he's a broken man and seems to only worry about his plants and stuff at the beginning of the third game. Once they discover the former humans, he sacrifices himself to kill the enemy horde and calls out to his wife. When that happened, my heart sank and my mouth hung open. Dom was easily my favorite character and to see him go out like that made me hurt inside.

    And the parts leading up to that point were of course impactful as well with the Leaving Earth scene!

    The good/secret ending in Code Vein. You worked your ass off and died countless times to restore everyone's lost memories and even collect the memories of the other attendants so Io (the mysterious girl you woke up to at the start of the game) to save everyone and teach Io how to make her own decissions and live her own life outside of her duty as an attendant, when you were about to take all off silvas relics onto yourself to keep the red mist up that surrounds the world to keep the monsters from the other side outside, she pushes you away takes EVERY relic and then sacrifices herself with a smile on her face by transforming into a large white tree that carries an infinite amount of blood beads AND keeps up the red mist. And the only things of her that she left were her necklace and a golden blood bead that allowed you to leave the mist. I actually cried for a good ten minutes because it was so sad and beatiful at the same time
