The battery if they had no other location should have ended up in the front box really. I feel like the X feels incomplete in design.
Perhaps a work in progress, that battery box in its current form is an absolute deal breaker.
Don't like the idea of a lithium battery under a bed due to fire risk. The battery should be outside or in a seperate sealed section.
Some definite downfalls of the X but I do prefer the kitchen at the back. More storage is a must though for me.
Looking at the Jpod group the X is becoming very popular :)
Good comparison review mate. Series 2 of the X will probably iron out a few of the issues you mentioned. It looks neat and compact but like you I would lean towards the Jpod outback.
Agreed, storage is my biggest issue with the X, packing and unpacking off the bed would do my head in. If the Outback was available when we bought ours, I would have jumped on.it.
I personally prefer the Jpod X

Saw the X at the Sydney show recently. The bed sadly is not much wider than a king single. Good for a solo traveler perhaps? But not 2 adults. Looking again at the Outback now. Great review thanks.
I don't understand why Jayco don't have a stone guard. I can see stones damaging and deflecting off the gas tank into the vehicle rear window.
I added a stone guard to ours.
I look at some of the cost cutting changes between models is ridiculous.

The battery box under the bed definitely isn't a great spot either. Both models could have it mounted in that huge tool box.
The battery in the Sport is poorly located and can be tucked away further into the left cavity next to wheel arch. We have been lucky with our battery, 5 years still going with original battery.
The X battery location is an abomination, one rock, one fall into a rut, and it will be ripped off.

Yes, true. With the Sport, is the battery in the same spot as the Outback under the bed? I'm looking at getting a pod style camper and am thinking either one of these j-pod models or the Lumberjack Sheok.
@Carl Yes, Battery is in the same spot. Both Lumberjack and Jayco both good companies. I like the Jayco product, although mass produced, they are made in Australia with serviceability right across Australia. Anything goes wrong. you're sorted fairly quickly.

Why does the awning start half way along the doorway!? You would get wet getting out of the van if raining!

So , just wondering with the outback how do you seal out the mozzies from the large back door, i realise there is a rear back tent but i want simple, thanks guys, I think the jayco penguin might be the go but it has a indoor kitchen which I don't want, thanks guys
This was my glaring observation before watching the video (insect screen for cabin). Question was unanswered. The X looked good to start with, but is let down in the areas mentioned. The designers really need to look at other Teardrop/squaredrop campers for what the market wants/needs. Although I like the openess of the cabin, there is ahuge amount of room above the feet for cabinetry/storage. The boxes by the side of the bed need to make way for a queen size bed.
the battery box looks like my kei truck and thats all good offroad but thats VERY light this design is wrong
its a shame. the kitchen and side doors are a massive improvement but then they go and remove solar as standard at put the battery external to get knocked off .... so close to being good.
I agree, with an upright fridge because of the large power draw there would be majors benefits to having built in solar.
Its funny because the Sport and Outback both don't need fixed solar.

That's Webber's issue, not the caravan manufacturer.
Looks cheaply made, with low quality fittings. Why no lithium battery? Where is the induction cooker? LPG gas is so 2019...
They are fairly mass-produced, so lots of optional extras. They could do heaps however I'm guessing its about keeping the price point at a family level.
pay an extra 20k and you can have those products. nothing wrong with gas.
