All truffle hunters, whether novice or experienced, know the frustration of coming home empty-handed from a day in the forest. Here we look at four of the reasons why you aren't finding truffles and what to do when that inevitably happens!
All well said. The only thing missing is not mentioning how important it is to keep logs on every outing into the field. And because we are talking about fungus we should we recording air and soil temperatures. Soil moisture levels and air humidity. Even air flow speeds and direction. Look at rain levels over the last 3 months besides temperatures. And let's not forget elevation. So much but it all adds up. Julie I thought I should mention my mother has been visiting a good friend of hers in Umbria the last few weeks. I nnnn

Hello there. i have an urgent question. my dog lagotto is hunting pretty fine but it sometimes runs back to the location of the vehicle we go to hunting with which is a few hundred meters away most of the time and this is very dangerous for it. What can i do about that?. Thank you 🙏😔
Hi. It sounds as if you need to spend some time working on general obedience. If your dog does not come when called, this can be really dangerous as you say! Train on recall in a safe place away from where you hunt truffles. When the dog comes to you after running off, never shout at him, just reward him and praise him for coming back. Otherwise he will associate coming back when called with an unpleasant experience. In the meantime have you thought about getting a long lead until he masters recall? Good luck!!
@@TheRealTruffleHunters I have done what you said. Gifted with some nice good every time he comes back. Never shouted when he deserted. Waited in same location and problem solved in two days. Thanks for the advice 🙏😊

I didn’t know that the weather affects truffles 3 months later. We’ve had lots of rain in April. Does this mean there will be lots of truffle that are ripe in July?
As long as it doesn't rain constantly until July,, then you end up with a lot of rotten truffles. A good mix of sunshine and occasional rains from now on would be ideal
