Kastelorizo - Dodecanese

KASTELORIZO (Kastellorizo or Castellorizo) is the easternmost island of Greece and is located less than two kilometers (less the 1 mile) from the southern coast of Turkey and 120 kilometers (72 miles) from Rhodes. Kastelorizo covers an area of 5.9 square kilometers (2.2 square miles). In the early 20th century it had a population of 15,000 people. Almost all these people emigrated to the mainland, Australia and Egypt. Today it houses only 200 residents who are mainly engaged in fishing.
