Casey I'm optician I sell ray ban's sunglasses since 10 years and, they're legit, but they have defect on the lenses tint and mirror coating for sure, I got like 20 aviators getting this kind of issue with tint and gradient being defective during the past 10 year in the shop. For the bad plastic quality and feel, again, luxottica is making quite a bad job atm, I'm sure you're victim of it. My opinion ? Ray ban is Russian roulette, unless you can try a pair in a shop and see yourself that they're right, don't buy it... Plus, appart from Wayfarer, New Wayfarer, Clubmaster, Clubround and Aviator, a lot of their models are polycarbonate lenses, and sorry for that RB but wow, they are so bad, very scratch sensitive... My advice is to only go with glass models from them. Next time maybe try Maui Jim or Serengetti, that's were the real quality is :)
Maui Jim is the BOSS of all sunglasses. It doesn't get any better. And Luxottica can't stand the fact that they can't buy them like they have done with all the other brands

One more thing you can check casey is the RB LASER engraving on the temporal aide of the left lense, You should see "RB" really thin engraved, but I'm not sure they still do it on polycarbonate lenses... I'll check this today at the shop !
Édit : they do it on polycarbonate lenses on the backside of the lens and on the frontside of the lens on mineral lenses
RB Laser engraving is ONLY on 1 lens, not both! One has the white "Ray-Ban" logo, and the other has RB engraved.

I think their biggest concern is that they can't control live footage. In an advertisement, the company controls what is shown to the consumer and what kind of company they want to be portrayed as. Also could be a privacy thing?

You shouldn't be able to detect any nicks, rough spots!
Your classic black glasses have mineral lenses. I THINK the Purple ones have nylon lenses, much thinner and a cheaper feeling . The hinges in the corners of the glasses should be of a very good quality metal construction.
Check the booklet for errors, if the booklet contains any sort of error (spelling, grammar, or factual error)

AlexBagel lol I think the mic is more direct and the old mic picks up almost everything in the surrounding. So technically the new mic is higher quality but sounds muffled just cause all you hear is his voice and nothing more.

Hey Casey! So I worked at a sunglass store before and I had a customer tell me something like this...Most come from an Italian factory where they are mostly made but there are some that are made in Chinese factories due Ray-Bans worldwide demand. Could be you got the Chinese one haha
I agree with Keith. i work for an optical dispensary currently and on some models they change the materials to handle stress on the frame better as well. Could be new materials from a Chinese factory that feel different and have a sloppier build. I'm not defending Amazon sellers though there are some fakers but the truth may be due to Luxottica, the owner of Ray Ban. I know there is also a hotline that exists that will help you handle ray ban fraud exclusively from the manufacturer. First thing I would check though is if the place of purchase is an authorized Ray Ban seller.

Old mic (rode video micro) sounded much better. New one sounds tinny, like it's excluding much of the lower frequencies. Plus never needing batteries and not having to constantly switch on/off the mic is great

i sell glasses for a living casy so hear me out. the darker shade can happen becouse the couler in the glasses fades over time. when a coustomer breaks thier glass we always order two new ones becouse of this. the texture of the frame should be the pritty much the same tho, but this also can change when you use them a lot. but the tell tale sight of fakes are the actual glasses in the frame. all raybans should be made from glas and not plastic. you often find plastic in fakes. and otherwise you have a really good nock off. if you go to a store where they sell glasses they should be able to remove them from the frame and see if its glas or not. when you drop them from like 1 cm you can hear the difrence between glas and plastic, glas has a higher ring to it.
oh and if you want a good way to remove the rayban logo without scratching your glassen just dip an ear swab in nailpolich remover and whipe it over the logo. DO NOT TOCH THE FRAME!!

You realize if a helmet is dropped from knee height, it's essentially junk. The foam inside the shell compacts and then does not absorb impact as well in that spot. So when you walked in and just dropped it from door knob height, it made it less effective. This just from reading up on motorcycle helmets in the past.

True, he can support the products that he uses without getting paid, but I wouldn't count that as a paid endorsement because Casey decides wether to talk about it or not (not happening with Samsung for example). I think that he usually talks us honestly about the good and bad points of these gadgets that he gets. For example, if he gets bad sunglasses as a present he will tell the audience that its a bad product as he made in this vid ( even if it wasn't a present ) . And if he talks positively about something its probably because he thinks that its ok for his audience to get that product, for example, Boosted Board... I only meant that im bored about him being obliged to say the same thing 10000 times in a vid. I think that its more efficient to trust Casey and ask him only to tell us when he is actually getting paid. Thanks.

I live in Florida and I had to evacuate, over 6 million people evacuated the roads were insane, and gas ran out everywhere. I slept two days in my car on an area rest because there was no hotels available, and took shelter in a church. Im trying to vlog all of this but I don't have how to upload it now. Im currently on my way back to Florida, I don't know what to expect. I tried to contact neighbors to see what's going on in my region but had no luck reaching them. Im scared of going back to a completely destroyed home. Not to mention that power is still off for millions of people. If you have a chance please pray for Texas and everyone that was affected by Irma. This is truly a very scary and sad situation.

Casey, you might be running into an issue where Luxotica has simply changed their manufacturing process for those frames and the quality has suffered. That's my best guess and I wouldn't put it past one of the largest corporations in the world to sacrifice quality for the sake of cost on a given product. This happens all the time.

Nope, Luxottica bought Ray-Ban in 1999. I actually think Ray-Ban wasn't doing too well right before Luxottica bought them. But after the buyout, they revamped their brand and inflated the price tag.

Irma is (mostly) past the Orlando area, now. I've only lived here for about 2 years, so this was my first real hurricane experience. A little frightening, but we made it through. I know many people without power, and we have some minor damage on our building, but nothing like the devastation in the Caribbean. I hope you all have a chance to reschedule your cruise and have lots of fun!

As a FL resident for most of my life, I've been through a number of hurricanes..Charlie, Francis, Jeanne, Ivan, Mathew..the list goes on. Irma was the worst. I'm happy to say we were out of power for 72 hours, but a neighbor up the road lost everything. A downed power line hit the house and it burnt to the ground. Thank goodness they evacuated.

Those are real Ray-Bans, they may feel different to you and the lenses may look like a different color because they may be non polarized vs Polarized, not sure which you had before but there's your answer sir.
Also if you want to be absolutely sure, take them to a place that sell prescription glasses and ask them to test if the UV protection on the lenses are real, if they are cheap lenses the UV coating will not pass inspection at an optical store.
Cyclingmaven on CZcams had a pair of Foakleys tested and the UV was good. China takes their Knockoffs seriously and sometimes they are better than originals.

When I bought my black folding Wayfarers: gloss black frame were for polarized lenses and matte black were for non polarized.
XHAD the note he got along with his purchase is standard practice amongst amazon market place sellers, I get why he thinks it's shady, but as a person who used to sell on amazon, sending a note like that on a high value item is standard practice to make sure your customer is satisfied rather than amazon just taking a return and you losing the money.

Sounds really stupid, but the number one tell of raybands is the quality of the lenses, the real ones are made from a high quality scratch resistant glass that is hella expensive hens the price, and jeweller should be able to tell if the lenses are real, all the fakes don't use the same glass as it is to expensive to use on the fakes.

Casey, first, the testure of them wear over time which is why you're not used to the texture. Second, the sunlight will fade the lenses hence why the new seem darker

Nicole its actually a professional editing style that they teach you in film school to keep the viewer in the zone and focused on whats ahead without breaking the video into segments and explaining. harder to catch on but easier on patience. great to see a style like this actually utilized in a great way

After moving their manufacturing to Asia, people have been complaining that the quality of Ray Bans have gone down dramatically. So there is a chance that those Ray Bans are actually "real" despite the poor build.
