- Will or Be going to! Do you know the difference?
We use “be going to” to talk about future events that have been mentioned, decided, or planned before the moment of speaking.
We use "will" to talk about future events decided at the moment of speaking (at the moment we make our decision).
We use "be going to" to talk about an event based on evidence in the present (something we already see starting).
We prefer “will” to make predictions or beliefs based on personal opinions.
10/10 no sweat. I'm kidding, I did have to think, but my school prepared me. Will is used for facts (wasn't in the video), expectations, hopes, predictions without evidence, spontaneous decisions, promises, fears, and orders/requests, while going to is used for predictions with evidence as well as plans/intentions.
The easiest strategy to answer these kinds of questions is to simply see if going to fits as either a prediction with evidence or a plan/intention, and if it doesn't, use will. If you want to be even more accurate, you can also try to force a rule that you think is best for both the will and going to future individually and then compare which of the two rules fits the case better.
Thank you for your feedback.

Please, make a video lesson on "would, could, and might".😊

Thanks so much. It's very helpful to determine when we use "will" or "be going to" clearly.
You're welcome! I'm glad the explanation was helpful for you. Understanding the differences between "will" and "be going to" can indeed be quite useful in English. Remember that "will" is generally used for spontaneous decisions or predictions, while "be going to" is often used for planned actions or intentions. However, context plays a significant role in choosing the appropriate form. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. Keep up the great work in your English learning journey!
