@@rachaelt8729 My grandfather, who died 3 years ago and fought in WW2 against the Germans respected and loved rammstein and Germany in general. He thought that the descendants understand what their grandfathers did, and because of that the whole nation should not be mudslinging. My family and I have been going to his grave every year since that day and remember him.

I'm portuguese, I saw this show in Lisbon with my son, it was unbelieveble, not enough words to discribe it, just amazing, out of this world. Next year I'm going to see them in Barcelona, again with my son. It will be the fourth time I'll see RAMMSTEIN.

@@ChrisBabez it was the first line in the national anthem pre ww2. Before the German Kaiser Reich, Germany was split into a shit load of Kingdoms and what not. They united and wrote this song “Germany Germany over all” with the original meaning that being united as one country is better than being split apart. The nazis took the phrase literally in the meaning that Germany is over everything and anyone in the world. Nowadays it’s cut out of the anthem because of the Nazi problem and because in another line it described the old German borders with “von der Maas bis an die Memel”. Sorry if I butchered it, English ain’t my first language haha

the fist translates to 'germany over everything' and the second to 'germany over everyone'.
'germany over all' works for both but then you'd miss the subtlety in the difference in meaning.

It is good to explain this so clearly! The difference between 'allen' and 'alles' is immense; 180 degrees of difference. Germans (and their Dutch-speaking neighbours) are fully aware of the difference. All Rammstein songs have a 'second layer'. Most songs link significantly to history or are a tribute to older German songs/songwriters. It's worth figuring out what these references are. After that, Rammstein's songs will never be the same when you hear them. Did you know that the dark, low-tone sound at the beginning of 'Deutschland' comes from a movie? 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado'. Check out yourself.

Only soccer is a 'thing'... Everybody Dutch, with a decent knowledge of /or interest in NW European history has figured out the whole story. Я слушаю этих прекрасных ребят с 5 лет. Сейчас мне 20. Очень люблю и никогда не перестану. Они стали моей дорогой в рок. Металистом стала только благодаря дорогому Тиллю и его замечательной команде. Да, дядя уже взрослый, но ни капли не сдает. Словно студийная запись играет. Многие пишут "задыхается старичок". На момент их выступления на стадионе было +30. Даже 20 летний не сможет вытерпеть, а тут такой солидный мужчина. Выкладывается по полной, отжигает и наслаждается процессом. Надеюсь, что смогу попасть на концерт этих ребят когда-нибудь.

Shivers running down my spine when I see and hear that crowd yelling "DEUTSCHLAND, DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES". Gotta admit, kinda love it.
Yeah that’s the most critical part for us Germans in that song because it was used by the nazis a lot as it means: Germany,Germany, above everything and it’s often associated with Nazis.
But I love this song too regardless of the lyrics cuz they show the bad things that happened in my county too.

So... It's ubber ALLEN and this change in particular means a lot. "über alles" is used for putting something above everything, whereas "über allen" is used for being above everybody. In the song context it's used both as a mockery to the Nazi moto "Deutschland über alles" and as a way to say that the sentiment of being German should be put above the people who use(d) it for their own agenda.
(Edit): In the music video you can see that Till, as a prisioner in the concentration camp, says it while looking directly to the camera, emphasizing the "Über Allen".

I doubth there are enough descendants of those who wiped out natives from certain areas who will really understand this song (or from other parts of the golden billion area). Germans do remeber their glory and their moments of sorrw, I hope other will learn it too

A part Berlin, rien en Allemagne de l'est, n'attire les français, belges et suisses à part RAMSTEIN et son spectacle de lumières qui fait penser au lyonnais Jean-Michel Jarre. Près de chez moi, il y a chaque année fin novembre un marché de NOEL venu de la région ETZGEBIRGE entre l'Allemagne de l'est et la République Tchèque. Une région de vrais allemands qui bégayent l'anglais aussi bien que moi et les nombreux internautes de langue française. Un magnifique marché de NOEL du jeudi au dimanche, qui donne une image souriante d'une région pas très courue et pas très connue. La ville principale est DRESDEN. Je ne sais pas si ces gens admirent RAMSTEIN. Je sais qu'ils admirent Dieter BOHLEN de MODERN TALKING. Ils invitent une série de musiciens folkloriques très compétents. Nous en reparlerons. Orchestre ERZGEBIRGE ENSEMBLE.
