I absolutely love my philodendron dean mcdowell as a houseplant, and I've spoken about care tips and growing hacks for it in the past, but today I'm looking specifically at how I got my philodendron dean mcdowell to grow to the huge size that it is in such a short period of time. Pillow leaf philodendron!

My favourite plant! I also got mine from GrowTropicals back last year and it definitely is one of the most forgiving plants I've ever had. My only issue is I could never find a nice looking trough planter that didn't cost an absolute fortune, so I just bought a cheap plastic one from Wilkos and covered it in 10mm jute rope with my glue gun :)

If you give your McDowell dappled morning sunlight/brighter light it'll grow bigger leaves, shorter petioles and a thicker more stable stem so you won't have the problem of instability. I love your channel Claire. Thank you. 😊

I got one about a month ago and found it was root bound, I only decided to clean the roots up today and it turned out to have several babies, not sure if that’s a normal thing for these but I was excited about it 😊 I loooove your channel ❤

I have a massive one that has blooms on it. Healthy plant, easily my favorite. Her name is Audrey II and she almost touches my ceiling from the table she's on

Try using two bamboo stakes "teepee" style. It will help with the stability of a plant that size.

I only have the P. gloriosum. With that I've decided for propagation I'm just going the cut the tail of the plant, let that start growing. I might make multiple cuts. Then I can just take the tail out and repot that and move the head of the plant back in the pot. That way I avoid all of the typical problems that can come up with propagations.

My McDowell is my absolute fave atm. I got mine in April and it’s given me 4 leaves already and seriously sizing up. My temps are no where near yours, prob about 17 - 23 and mine grows in a north/north east facing window in normal room humidity (about 50/60%) so it’s clearly a forgiving and adaptable plant! Mine needs a repot pretty soon so the eternal “finding a nice trough planter” search resumes!

I was debating on ordering this plant, but thanks to your video I will not! I want climbers! I don’t have room for these crawlers 😂

I love your channel. I learned so much from you.❤❤ quick question if you grow a plant in water what kind of fertilizer would you give it?

Thank you so much! LGL can be used for hydroponic growing too, so although there's very few I grow purely hydroponically, I would probably still do things this way 💚

Good morning from Sydney Claire, I was wondering where you get the rope, that is behind you on the shelf, that you use to wrap your plant pots? I think it’s a great idea to dress up a nursery pot, rather than having to buy cover pots for each plant that we own. Hoping you buy it from Amazon, or some other online place where we can find it in Australia. Currently binging all of your videos, love your new apartment. Not so new now of course and I especially like the hanging rails that your friend installed for you. Can I ask, are you renting? in Australia when we rent we are not allowed to put holes in the walls otherwise I would love to follow your lead and put rails up in my place. At the moment I have command hooks with plants hanging down wherever there is space, but I am interested to know about the rails as well. Thanks so much for the videos, your voice is extremely calming to listen to.

It's such a beautiful plant 😍 a suggestion for the planter, have you considered drilling holes on the base of it? I have done with some of mine and I've found it really helps with the drainage x

That's a great shout - I've done that with my other trough planters! I don't know why they're so bad for drainage! 💚

Hey lovely, what were the lighting conditions at the GT warehouse when you went? I buy most of my plants from them and it would be handy to know what they are. I know that they merged with Kojo, but I think they still have separate warehouses at the mo 🤔 xx

What about staghorn fern? Won't you take off the protection fuzziness if you dust it off?

The new leaves on mine come out crinkly or deformed. Also not as big as the original leaves. What humidity level do you grow yours in? I think my issue is related to humidity, but I am open to suggestions. I really want to make this plant happy but so far I wasn't able to enjoy any of the leaves it grew in my care... Thank you!
