Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is an Indian classical sitar player from Imdadkhani Gharana. He belongs to the seventh generation of Etawah Gharana. He was born in Mumbai and was trained under his father Aziz Khan, who was the son of the sitar player Wahid Khan. Shahid Parvez has performed in all major music festivals in India or in abroad. Shahid Parvez also got vocal and Surbahar(sometimes called bass sitar) training from his uncle Hafeez Khan. He also received training in tabla for many years from Munnu Khan of the Delhi Gharana.

Raag Rageshree, also called Rageshwari, which is popularly considered as the Queen of all Raags and hence the name Rageshwari (Raag+Iswari) and decorously said so since it is a very euphonic and mellifluous raag of Hindustani classical music, from the Khamaj Thaat. In music literature, Raag Rageshree is said to have both Shuddha and Komal Nishads. It has evolved and become popular in the past century.
Raag Rageshree is very similar in its structure to Raag Bageshree. However, Rageshree stands apart through the use of the shuddha Ga, versus Bageshree's Komal Ga.
Raag Rageshree is considered as a raag of night and, the best time to perform is advised during the second half (Dwitiya prahara) of the night.
In this video, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan plays Raageshree, Mishra Kaafi and a bandish in Kedar, before concluding the concert with Raag Bhairavi.

After the treat of Rageshree, a smiling pot-pourri of Khamaj, Kafi, Kedar (a little vocal aka his guru),Nand,Hameer, then suddenly a standard sweet dish of Bhairavi.
Are you sure he played khamaj? If yes, could you please share the time stamp coz I couldn't hear khamaj in the entire video. It was kafi after rageshree
The level of command that UstadJi has over layakari is just mind boggling ... seasoned tabla players will have to remain super mindful of the 7 beat Rupak cycle that he goes in .. how he circles back into the "Som" is just super thoughtful ... sometime he kicks off from the 4th matra ...and then he kicks off from 4.5 and then 4.25 ... God only knows how he does that ...

What great baaj and bandishes! Each bandish a sparkling inimitable gem without par. What Kedara and Bhairvin alaps! And his layakari!! Just Amazing. Looks like the audience was small and private on this occasion, but they had inspired Shahid Parvez to perform some of his best baaj. Without this azeem artist, the world of Sitar will become poor and empty. Why is this great artist deprived of the highest awards the country can offer? A Padma Vibhushan award will itself be honored to find a place at his feet. He has served his country well indeed. May god preserve Shahid Parvez for a very very long time to come. Ameen!

@@KirkKammett Pl shut your dirty mouth first. Ustadji usually doesn't present a pot-pourri of ragas as he did in the middle part. Of course, he sings sometimes like his guru.
