- Dancing hands star in elaborate miniature sets, the action filmed live to become epic on a big screen. See an ingenious show animated before your eyes - ‘a total theatrical treat’ (Times).
In this wonderfully whimsical production, the story of seven surprising deaths takes audiences into an array of scenarios that touch on the fleeting fragility of life. Watch as performers and crew conjure visuals onstage or simply succumb to the beautifully detailed kaleidoscopic vistas appearing on film. From the razzamatazz of a Fred and Ginger-style dance number to a floating figure in outer space, from a ravaged war-torn cityscape to the recreation of an iconic Boléro ballet.
Set to classic and contemporary music including Ravel, David Bowie and Janis Joplin, Cold Blood brings together intricate hand choreography, tiny props, live cinema and a witty script. Drawn from the film and dance backgrounds of husband-and-wife creative team Jaco Van Dormael and Michèle Anne De Mey - whose previous show, Kiss & Cry, thrilled audiences at LIMF in 2014 and again in 2017.
‘It is entirely original and totally entrancing’ (WhatsOnStage).
‘Nothing short of exquisite’ ***** Arts Desk
‘Our eyes and imaginations are beguiled … breath-taking, affecting, magical’ ***** Herald Scotland

The last time I saw this group perform I was awestruck, I tried to convey how wonderful dancing, walking, strolling hands could be to others but failed. It's beyond my capabilities to articulate. If you get the chance go see them
best show i’ve ever seen!

well this was even more wonderful than I was expecting. I rarely go to theatre and if ever I do i'm always hoping its strong in its stage craft...and this is amazing!. Rare to come away from a live snow and be thinking "what excellent cinematography"! On the lower half of the stage the performers use their fingers/hands in miniature sets for 7 vignettes , each about death in all its forms, while a mellifluous measured voice brings all the stories together using dry , dark humour. All the while the action is filmed in close-up and projected above on a big screen...and even though you can choose to focus on the ingeniously simple special effects being played out before your eyes, you're still left wondering "how on earth are they doing this?" Poignant, melancholy, dreamlike and funny, the subject of death becomes very life affirming, in the capable hands of The Kiss and Cry Collective. one last "hand pun" before I finish. This show deserves two thumbs up! Sorry, I had to do it. But I mean it!
We saw their performance some years ago in Torino at the Fonderie Limone. An overwhelming emotional experience, terribly powerful. Just go if at all possible.
seeing this on Friday as part of the Adelaide 2020 Festival. cant wait!!
