Thanks Kevin for the closeup and the stand-alone eye, It make it easier to follow the steps. I always tried to carve my eyes in an existing project and in existing eye socket. Seeing it carved on a flat showed me I can practice on any piece of wood and not worry about ruining a whole project. Thanks so much for sharing.

I was sitting around whittling and came up to making the eyes for my character and couldn’t make a realistic eye. I came across your videos and seen your fisherman and how detailed your eyes were then I found this video and without a single word I have finally master the eye and a hole new way how to carve and I want to thank you. Your videos are very simple and easy to follow and I love seeing you use that old fishtail knife. Your videos are amazing and I hope you keep them coming I watch them very chance I get while I whittle.
Thanks Kevin, useful method of doing eyes, but a lot depends on the wood you are using, that piece you did, and a good Flexcut type knife will work nicely for a carving genius like yourself, but people like myself with some arthritis in the fingers not so easy!!! I do appreciate the tutorial though and it was thoughtful of your good self to post this as this is a good one to master, Regards and have a good weekend

Kevin, could you do a video on wood grain. I attempted to cut an eye like this video shows, but when I cut the upper cut in the lid, disaster happened. I suspect it was the grain of the wood?

It’s takes some careful cutting on eyelids
Having trouble with the eyelids. Is your knife going in at an angle to make V cuts? Thanks for making this video!
I cut up on a little angle for the top one. The bottom one is not as fragile. It’s better to make a few lighter cut till you get the hang of it

The smaller they are the harder to do. Slits would work much easier on that size
