I am 16. I lost my dad 6 months ago, because of cancer. This video went straight into my heart. I never asked him what makes him proud of me, I couldn't say him how much he meant to me(I went to London and stay there with sister...) and I still regret.
It is really sad, when I see teenagers, people in my age who don't have respect to their parents. I just want to tell, that we should appreciate every small thing which they do for us and we should every day tell them, how much we love them and how they are important for us. We don't know the month and the hour, when something might change.

I don't see the importance of fatherhood. I always wondered what's the importance of fathers in a child's life. I can see why mothers are important. Women are socially and biologically programmed to be parents much more strongly than men are. Mothers are the ones that produce milk to feed to their babies. Also, mothers are the ones that are usually in charge of their babies, and they assume that role early on. Also, women have "maternal instinct", while men don't have anything like that. And also, children usually spend a lot more time with their mothers than they do with their fathers, and during that time, the mothers are usually taking care of the children.
Also, most animals in this world are only taken care by their mothers and they don't have their fathers around at all. So why are human fathers important? It seems that a child can grow up without a father, and still turn out ok.

    •  Před 15 dny

As long as our parents know their kids love them and didn't turn out to be wankers that's about the best one can hope for.

My dad never knew if his father was proud of him or that he loved him and he went 15 years before finding out that answer. When my brother and I were born, my dad knew immediately that his father loved him and he has tried to live his life where his old man could be proud of him. My relationship with my Dad is very awkward. He never expressed love to me while I was growing up. He provided material things for me but what I yearned for as a child was his affection and attention. I never got that from him. We have never been close. I needed him so much when I was young but he wasn’t available emotionally. It really wounded me, irreparably I believe. What I learned from my father was how to build walls and never let anyone in. So, I’m 52 and have never let anyone in. Never married or had kids. Have no clue what being loved feels like and oddly, that’s all I ever wanted from my Dad as a kid.

Hm. I wish I still had mine. A peculiar man. And a flawed man. Almost 10 years after his demise I still can't say that I have any bad memories of him. This video is right on the money. The only regret I have so far in life is not spending more of my adult time with my father. I try to do the right thing by my mother nowadays.
This "tell them now" thing? Trust me. You want to.

That one woman's absent dad was listening. Somehow, he was. No one - not even a God - would be able to stop him from listening.
That's the kind of love this is.
Thank you, papas. You're always heroes.

The 2:17 there are some on here that already commented, but the sad thing is when your father, mother, grandparent, or even sibling are gone forever it really hits you like a ton of bricks. It could be a day, month, year, or decade before the realization hits of, "oh crap" they really are gone REALLY starts to sink in.

Mine died in 2014.. i was 14 and we had no idea. He wasn't sick. He was the healthiest man i knew infact. He survived so much.. car wrecks were he should have died. Motorcycle accidents.. yet.. after all that he lived through.. a state road van was what took him out of my life..
He was walkimg as he did every damn day.. comimg home to wake me up and start our day together
When he never came back .. i ain't been the same since..
I'm almost 20 now. My heart is still shattered and broken. I haven't healed at all.
I just miss my dad. I just miss him.
