Lyrics:
It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long
Caught somewhere between a boy and man
She was seventeen and she was far from in-between
It was summertime in Northern Michigan
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
Splashing through the sand bar
Talking by the campfire
It's the simple things in life, like when and where
We didn't have no internet
But man, I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Catching walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We'd blister in the sun
We couldn't wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock and roll
While we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change
Or how we thought those days would never end
Sometimes I'll hear that song and I'll start to sing along
And think man I'd love to see that girl again
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long

I bet the mash up of warren zevon and skynard really brought him back to his younger days.
I've loved Kid Rock since I was a kid. My mom was from Michigan, & I was born & raised in Tennessee so everyone around me listened to his music. This song came out when my brother & I were kids, we created a "stage" outside in the yard, set up lawn chairs, & made the family (including our grandparents & great grandmother) come listen to us preform it 😂 theres probably a video of that somewhere.. My brother passed away 2 years ago, its crazy how a song can take you back to a place & time just like it was yesterday.. ❤️

I'm almost 70 yrs old, but this song makes me feel so young and so good. Kid rock, God bless.
If the soul is young nothing else matters ✌️
Because is a sample of: Warren Zevon - Werewolves Of London (1978) and Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (1974)
This is one of my favorite songs. I grew up in Alabama. I did 26 years in the Army most of my time was in Airborne and special ops. I heard this song on Arm Forces Radio in Afghanistan. I taught our interpreter to sing This song and then Sweet home Alabama. I was very fortunate to get him and his family out. They live about ten miles
This song is ace I love it!!
I’m here bc my 78 yr old mom asked me to add it to her playlist 😆
My best friend passed away this summer and she loved Kid Rock..so I’m putting a tribute video together for her to Only God Knows Why. I think everyone has a Kid Rock song they love! The Rebel Without a Cause album was massive when I was younger..it’s one of my feel good go-to’s 😎

Well said bro!
Hahahaaa u is pops now😂😂😂 anyone 60yo got some good stories🤘🏻tell me I’m wrong.
Man, I got a ton of stories. Living in Nashville we got Alot of lakes & my youth was just unbelievable. I used to drive my bass boat up & down the lake shore he's driving in this video. Fish it, have picnics right there where those 2 twins are with the rebel flag bikini. That's Hendersonville TN. My cousin is a country song writer, lives right down the street from that video shoot. This video kicks my memory into overdrive. Such good times. We can't go back but we have the God given memories.
My dad passed yesterday, he was 79. This was his favorite song to hear. Love you Rock. Thank you, we're playing this at his celebration of life.
Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family may he rip
I'm sorry for your loss.
may he rest in peace
Today is the 3 yr anniversary of my dad's pass. He was a good ol country boy from Alabama, but loved this song. I'm listening to it for him tonight. Sorry for your loss. If you're having a drink tonight, cheers to our dads.
May he RIP.
This brought me back to a simpler time

@@terriunderwoodmeredith2452 It's bad, that he died and seemingly much too young. But the good thing is you miss him, cause this means you've had a good time with him. I wish you all the best for your further live. And though I'm a random person in the CZcams comment section to you (as you are to me) I mean this from the bottom of my heart, cause your comment anyhow made me cry. May God Bless you. I am 59.
However...
Either it is 8 days ago or 8 seconds ago, question for the new comers to REALLITY?
Can you TEACH Me what you know?
The horror lies within my mind when I gave the signal to the Dive Master to throw my Mother overboard.
She want to learn.
I met and held my Mother's hand at the bottom, and we signaled to each other, "Okay."
That has no equal.
Have YOU, or anyone YOU know, ever DONE THAT?
That is the definition of "Hard Core Man,'
Have you ever heard of a "ma duece?" Not likely, it a WWII enlisted man term.
I’m alive/so thankful! Loving this! Sweet Home Alabama!
This song has described almost every teenage experience before the invention of cell phones & internet. A time when no one was trying to "go viral" and all of our crazy dumb shit we did was not recorded for the world to see lol thankfully for some of us, those days are locked up tight and only seen in the memories of only those who were there! I miss the simpler time before everything got all hectic with becoming an adult and the biggest thoughts were when and where?
Very well put. I couldn't have said it better.
Yeah I think I was born right around the time cell phones, internet and newer technology fucked everything. I always remembered this song when I was just a tot, going to northern michigan with family and I guess I just miss those times. I understand phones fucked everything up, it's depressing
No kidding.
Life is very similar to this, trust me we’re having a lot of fun in our own right. No need to worry about us.

I turned 18 in 1982. This song is so spot on about growing up in Michigan at that time. Thanks Kid Rock for the memories!
These were the times we took for granted. Everytime I listen to Kid Rock, I think of all the fun times I've had with my dad and 2 older brothers, camping, fishing, traveling, having the best time we can have. Now we're grown up and do our own thing and my dad doesn't want to do anything any more. I love ya dad. I'll never forget our amazing moments/time together as a whole family.

F'n A brother. Time to rediscover!
Big facts
You do realize 1) this song isn't that old, and 2) the music is largely borrowed from Lynrd Skynrd and Warren Zevon (with new lyrics, admittedly)?
@@jasonpospiech2552 eaa area qqq3qqqqqqqq
Besides,"STIR CRAZY", AS WELL !
Let me just say this, because it does not look like anyone else has yet- LYNYRD SKYNYRD. I was a teenager in high school when the "Sweet Home Alabama" first hit the radio airwaves. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I had or can I begin to describe what the world was like back then. Just to say it was different is the biggest understatement of all time. Even the funny things we were smoking was different. lol So even if Kid Rock did not really write this music, I still love this song. I used to think that the music from my generation would be forgotten in time, but thank god I was wrong. It was just too good to be forgotten!
Man. You got that right! No One would believe the stuff We did listening to SR songs! \/m

Hello are you one of my special true music fan?
I had a blonde surfer girl that fit this song perfectly. We were 14 and 15 just discovering America. We went our separate ways a few years later and didn't see each other for 40 years. We bumped into each other again after 40 years and 2 life times passed us by. We started to kindle a love that we should have ignited 45 years before. Before we could really discover the love that we both knew could have been the ingredients for an unbreakable and deep discovery of ourselves she went to her final and long deserved rest. She passed in her sleep leaving me with the love that I have to her until she meets me when I cross over to greet her forever. Ours was the summer of 1971.
Tears 😢 man! That’s beautiful!
I’m so sorry for that 😞 Really hope u can reunite one day in eternity! ❤

I hear you, so very sorry. Lost my very first GF to cancer last year. Hadn't seen her since 1972, we dated in high school (both had part time jobs in the same place) in 1968 and we were crazy about each other. It fell apart when I moved from Vermont to Boston (college). It was a long time ago, but I cried when I heard that she passed last year. I guess you don't get over your first after all. I wish you peace.

At this point, I hope my kids have memories like this and this song brings them a smile later in life.
but most parents are against having memories like that
Sam thing I explained to my kids today. Once you graduate those years pass by so fast. Make your teenage years precious, love life..
It's rare that kids experience this now.

Hello are you one of my special true music fan?
As the kids say "facts." Another summer in the books. For anyone reading this I hope it was great for you.
We were here in the 70's.
Sweetheart Alabama was our theme song.
Kid Rock, sure wish we had you back then.
Love you brother
No, Sir, we are Honored to have you, as a Rock ICON, in our midst. Your music makes life ALOT better😊
Who ready for summer 2019
Spring 2019 😁
Samd
Love summer time!!!
So ready!! Added this to my playlist when partying on the island with other jet skiers and boaters! 🌞
Me too
I miss this version of America
@Amon Trismegistus Commies hate freedom, liberty and fun.
RIP confederate flag bikini. Just smoking
Im 16. My bullshit excuse for a generation and the dumpster fire that is the millennial generation are sucking all of the fun out of this country and turning it into a toxic cesspool of constantly having to explain yourself with every joke and worry about a sexual harassment charge any time you approach a woman. By the time my kids come around there’ll be nothing left for them except small remnants and isolated moments reminiscent of what was once a proud, strong and free nation. Wish I could’ve at least been a teen in the 90s...
Hello are you one of my special true music fan?
its still here just hope all the people exiting the city dont ruin it for us all and actually learned something. STOP THE AMERICAN COMMUNIST PARTY (Democcrats)
2024.. here...❤❤❤
It’s been years, and this song is still so good! I also think of Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London when I hear this song. 😃
It's like taking two great songs and making a pile of crap
yep you got me thanks
The instrumental is a mashup of those two songs as well as "Night Moves" by Bob Seger.
10 years later and this song never gets old 😌😌
