  • In todays shootingtest we'll take a look at the CCI Standard. This cartridge has been the "go-to-cartridge" for me when I want something that works and don't cost an arm and a leg. Is CCI Standard the best budget ammo in .22lr?
    I will be shooting my Tikka T1X during this review
    Lets go to the range and see if my trust in it is deserved.

    Some are sold out, or unavailable at the moment, but I have 70+ of these at hand already. I will use my Tikka T1X with a Zeiss Conquest 6,5-20x50. Shooting will mostly be done prone, but I will be using a shootingrest when available. Range is 50 meters, or 54,7 yards. I will first run 10 shots over the chronograph to get an accurate velocity reading and prep the bore for the ammo I will be testing that day. I will then shoot five five shots groups to obtain an average group size. I will be dividing ammo into groups. They will be as follow; bulk, standard, match, high velocity, subsonic and specialtyammunition.
    I'm looking forward to doing this test and share the results with you all!

    Never had the pleasure of shooting any of this round but have seen numerous reviews of its performance and it always performs well at the range given its price point. I enjoyed youR account of it and will try seek some out.

    The CCI Blazer 40 grain shoot almost as well out of my rifle as the Standard Velocity. I agree they are the best in their price range.

    That’s not bad grouping however another commenter almost claims 1 hole groups out of his Ruger 10-22. I find that just a bit overstated. I have found that over the years if the 22 ammo you and your rifle like and it is around a 1” to 1 1/2 “ that’s just about as good as it gets. Every rife is different and every 22 rimfire cartridges is different. A lot to check out that’s what makes it so fun and interesting. Keep on shooting Viking I will be watching.

      @thegunviking  Před 3 lety

      I agree with you, every rifle/ammo combination is different, and the only way to find out whats going to print good groups in your rifle is to do extencive testing. And one has to be ready for surprises. Thanks for watching!

      I agree with the guy talking about the 10-22, mine also shoots way better than this but I do have a Kidd barrel on it shooting at smaller USBR targets aspirin sized bullseye with cheap Norma xtac. Note that I’m not a expert shooter, we shoot competition once a month and my 12 year has out shot me a few times.

    CCI standard shoots great in my tikka T1x in krg bravo chassis.
    Average group size for six 5 shot groups was 10.8mm at 50 yards.
    Its also the cheapest ammo I can buy.

      I have to admit; CCI Standard is my favorite. Quality to price makes it a winner. It has never let me down. That said, there a several cartridges that groups better, but one has to pay for it. GV

    Interesting. I just bought my first chronograph and first time I am testing my .22LR, therefore looked for videos like this one to compare.
    With the one 10 shot string I did with CCI Std Vel. I got ES of 41 with SD of 16 but the velocity differ a lot from yours at average of 1114 fps.
    I always thought my rifle shoot a little faster than the average rifle but people said I was wrong, now I have proof. Other makes and speed according to package info also register faster from my rifle.

    • @thegunviking
      @thegunviking  Před 5 měsíci

      Hello! Yes, getting a chronograph is interesting, that's for sure. You get some surprises every now and then. You're absolutely right that some firearms are "faster" than others. I also have a theory that semi-automatic weapons "give off" some speed in the mechanism. I haven't tested it, but it's the plan to do so during the spring. Thank you for watching my videos and taking the time to leave a comment. Gunviking

    ..CCI SV has chrono data for SD and ES very close to their "Match" ammo and shoots reasonable groups around 1+ MoA @50 & 100 yards for 5 shots but starts to open up as the barrel warms and produces a second "group" for 5 the next 5. They don't really need a "barrel-warmer" either so ideal for cold bore shots or game...

      I was lucky and bought a 5000 carton from a guy that didn`t need them. Paid about 5-6 cent a pop. That half of what they usually cost up here in Norway. Good to hear that the ammo shortage in the US is coming to an end.

    I come across some vintage 22 ammunition from the 1930s , some Brand names I have never heard and some familiar, western, Winchester, I was supposed they still work I got them in a yard sale in Arizona,the old lady told me her husband used to shoot 22 s a lot and I asked her if she had any Old guns she showed me a Colt woodsman made in 1936 in the box and 3 magazines, she told me give me $50 dollars if you want it , I told her they go for around $1,500 or more and that w one was mint, she looked very surprised I went back 2 days later a paid her $1,500 , she told me that her husband used to hide them everywhere and there's more guns probably in the garage I told her if she finds more to call me so I can give her an idea of how much they're worth.

    Interesting, I ran some tests through my 18" Bergara BMR carbon with the CCI Standard and I got extremely consistent velocity of 1145fps... which seemed high compared to the 1070 on the box. I used a Magnetospeed. Not sure what to make of it now.

    • @thegunviking
      @thegunviking  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, that sounded a bit high. It's a known fact that some barrels are 'faster' than others, but that was very quick. If you have access to another chrono, I would test them again. It could also be that there's a LOT of ammo that's a bit hot, but CCI usually doesn't release products on the market with such variation

    For some reason if I reply to your post it does not go through. Anyway, here is a video with the right rifle to do such a test. To compare two different rifles, one bolt and one semi-auto you will for sure get different speeds because of the different barrels like my rifle that shoots faster.
