I have had several comments on my videos, people say I am uneducated on the items I show on video. You will see me ask dealers "is this real?" Or I will play along with dealers as I did with the fake double stitched screen printed armband from the 70's, just to see what they will say. I never call anyone out on their fakes, I just report and observe. Basically, I play dumb to see where the conversation goes. If I went to these shows and used an "in your face" type of interrogation technique I would swiftly lose my respect as a dealer and most likely lose access to the show. So guys just because i ask "is this real" doesn't mean I am just a dummy....lol. Maybe when I am old and grey I will start being an a$$hole and loudly proclaiming fakes when I see them!!

I am always really surprised that there is not some sort of law that considers this stuff prosecutable fraud. If you knowingly sell stuff as “real” and don’t mark it as reproduction, shouldn’t that be a crime?
There are no laws in militaria or any rare item collecting hobbies
@@DasVast I am fully aware but there is fraud. If you go to a store and buy a Rolex and that Rolex later turns out to be fake, you certainly have ways to recover your money and take legal action.
Back in the mid-1970's when I was a teenager, I collected militaria on a small scale. At that time there were many repro Nazi badges and no doubt armbands, medals etc floating around the UK militaria scene. Those items won't have disappeared. They are just 50 years older now and have had 50 years to develop a more convincing 'patina'!
What really needs to happen is people in these organizations need to start booting the scammers out. Everyone gets burnt occasionally but when people are regularly shoveling shit they need outed.
Calling that armband straight from the streets of Pakistan was an insult to the Pakistanis. That's straight out of kindergarten art class.

Great vids, I think it's time for us collectors to really start holding these people pushing fakes feet to the fire. There are so many new young collectors to the hobby especially over the past 2 years or so, would be a huge turn off to one of them to get burned bad on an item and never come back to the hobby.
Really glad that you made the regimentals video! When I say that video I instantly laughed and cringed of what he said about the items! It is a shame that they want to scam people for like 16K with an instant fake look item!
I cannot believe what is going on in these shows I always thought that the majority of them were authentic especially “Walter” who’s been in Tom Wittmann’s videos forever selling all that fake crap.. i’m just lost for words.. !!!

"Spindschloss" (locker lock) is the correct spelling if the bag contains only one lock. "Spindschlösser" (locker locks) is the plural form of "Spindschloss". But both words are more of an colloquial term. The bag should probably say "Vorhängeschloss" or Vorhängeschlösser" (padlock/ padlocks), which is the name they are sold by.

Its great that you do these videos. As a dealer, its not really good for me to poo poo other dealers stuff on a public forum. I try to get along with everyone and avoid getting my own name dragged through the mud. I try very hard to make sure nothing im selling is bad. To do that, you have to put the time and research in. A lot of these old dealers just don’t give a shit. You would think that with guys like you walking around they would be embarrassed to be caught with some of this garbage.
They left their pride and dignity at the door when they arrived in....

Hey man..one thing that suspect panzer wrapper with the twist piping..it looks like allgemeine piping but that piping was actually used by pioneer units in the Heer and SS on wrappers.
Yes, the highs and lows (very low indeed) at the Max show. I liked the contrast between one seller who had everything neat and tidy, with clearly labeled fakes, verses some other sellers and their junk just thrown around in display cases. Good and the bad side by side. I saw the NSKK emblem on the WW1 cut out helmet, and I was like 'WTF". Thank you for sharing.
I went to my very first militaria fair a week ago and thanks to your videos I seen so many fakes, even to me who has never seen real daggers or knifes noticed right away that most there was fake or reproduction, keep up the good work. Thank you.
Just a couple of minor comments. The cap seen at 25:22 is a U.S. Army Air Corps cap with a 9th Air Force patch, not 9th Airborne. And the visor cap seen at 31:20 is a Deutsches Arbeitsfront (DAF) “Festival Cap” rather than a cap from a veterans organization. Nevertheless, you know a lot more than I do and this is a very informative video as always. Keep up the good work. Crooks abound in this hobby.

Perhaps a letter writing campaign to all the shows and the promoters would get him banned from these events.

He has dirt on some other senior dealers in the hobby. If they kick him out, he will rat them out. It is an uneasy peace.

@@Eric_Von_Yesselstyn I agree with you. Not only that but if the band aid is pulled also the big dealer COA's will be worth shit. Some senior collectors rely heavy on the dealers to "authenticate" some of the high end crap they purchased. Imagine being the guy who paid 13K GBP for the Farbed SS Visor.... It is like a house of cards just waiting to tumble down. The only way to teach new collectors is to start at the bottom and study and learn everything before making even a single purchase of a button or a basic insignia.
@@thilgu Absolutely, COA's are worth as much as the paper they are written on. I mean a good reputation is the only thing that backs them up and a person has to know what they're looking at. It takes a little while to go through things, handle them and do that a lot before a person can spot fakes easily. The normal guy on the street that doesn't do this for a hobby doesn't know and the amount of fake stuff is just overwhelming for a novice.
Even I have seen some things and couldn't say for sure and I consider myself knowledgeable on German Stahlhelms. The problem in my case is that paint jobs and decals are getting better and aging as well.
Currently I'm just buying Eastern European reissue lids that have no original paint and restoring them, but I NEVER try to pass them off as original untouched. I just did a late war M42 ND shell and I used the pictures of a friend's untouched, late war M42 to get the late war, thinner paint and aluminum oxide just right. I have a lot of experience with oil based enamels. But i always think to myself "Hey if I can make this look like the real thing, just imagine the scammers out there".
Videos like these are a good service to the collecting community and I'm glad these videos exist.

The general armband is unbelievable... probably the armband that should be super well made and it looks horrible...cant believe nobody call him out!!!
Sweden also have tons of those hand blown super thin glass christmas ornamentations made back in the days, almost every grandmother have a box in the attic so to say they are NOT uncommon at all..
You can still buy new ones and people normally dont use them cause they are of VERY thin glass and break easily so it is not uncommon to find them NOS in boxes of usually 4 or 6. 4 is in a square box and 6 in a rectangular.
The ones with red color may contain lead.
I see them at work almost every week.

Regimentals mugged me off with a summer navy breast eagle ,it lit up like a Christmas tree under a uv light , guess what they ignored my emails , live and learn .
Actually what you comment at the end of video being an SS tunic is a panzer wrap with skulls on the collar which is correct and the braid is early pioneer. If this is original it would be extremely rare and worth a pretty penny

You make Mike wittmann look like an amateur, keep up the good work and exposing these scammers, frauds, CRIMINALS, who are knowingly stealing money from new and amateur collector's.
I can't imagine how many of those German items are fake considering how many were at that show. A tip for newer collectors it might pay to do your research on reputable dealers and go that route that's what I am doing now. The militaria and gun show circuit seems a bit dated now.
The cap shown at 22.10 is a Swedish Winter cap from 1941, to which has been added at metal deaths head and the "Italian" eagle. The cap is worth maybe 5 USD, not more than that.
I’m mainly eying up the German field gear in this vid ! In my opinion, is still a good subject to start out collecting. There’s still a good percentage of original field gear that won’t empty your wallet, such as canteens and gas mask canister sets or k98 ammo pouches….obviously there’s nuanced details, but most reproductions of these items are blatantly obvious.

As much as I hate Walther for what he's doing...I need to correct you as a native German. At 18:24 the term Spindschloss is actually correct. Spindschlösser is meaning more than 1 Lock. While Spindschloss means just 1.

i don't want to make you mad, but i want to correct about the uniform in at 33:56, its a Heer panzer pionier wrap that have this black and white cord, but the skulls are very low is really suspicious.
When greed meets ignorance, its a dangerous thing. What about the owners of these shows, the ones making money from the dealers get held to account? They get off scott free yet they are just as guilty as the charlatans who sell the shit.

I am not a collector, had no knowledge at all and not a native English speaker, but at 33:58 you were worried about an Allgemeine panzer tunic... but that seems not from SS... at least the eagle are on the right breast but I reckon that stiches around the collar seems from SS ... so is it badly fake?
It's a actually panzer pioneer wrap.. But I don't know if it is original(But it looks good to me..) The position of the skull on the collar tab is slightly lowered.. But looking at the original panzer wraps, sometimes the skull is not centered and comes down..
The bad dealers get weeded out. Their names get out in the collecting community and people avoid them like the Plague.
@ 7.28 this wooden plate was in a recent Whitman video. Same as the boxed hitler youth knife.
Its astonishing, I have my fair share of hobbies that I've dipped my toe into and the amount of fraud and downright bad business in Militaria has almost chased me away. I have a story or two already and i havent even been in the hobby that long. Even in coins, i feel like the fraud is a fraction of what goes on in militaria.. it's freakin discouraging.

A car boot ( trunk ) sale is about people taking their unwanted items to a field or an open space in town and for a small entrance fee can sell them from their car boot.
