Stormzy made a rap in a park then claimed he was the king hahaha, some say Wiley or d double but I think Skepta is the best UK MC cos of his involvement in the forwarding of the music scene’s, lyrics and subject matter and style. I know this Ninja Skepta didn't have the nerve to open his mouth talking about how Americans aren't as cultured when that whole hip hop scene in the UK is rooted and based on American Hip Hop culture, specifically Black American Descendants of Slavery culture. You don't have Grime, Garage, or Drill without Hip Hop from Black Americans. Ninja, you didn't get that rhythm and cadence from no Jamaica or Africa. You didn't learn it from nobody in any other foreign country. You got the foundation of your music from Black folks in America and then added to that. I see Skepta wearing street styles influenced by Black American Descendants of Slavery/Freedmen/Soulaan culture! WTH is he talking about? Ya'll really need to stop that bullcrap in the UK always trying to throw shade at Americans.

    People from all the corners of the Earth live in the USA. They bring their culture with them. We have people from all continents who live in America. Also, we do have many Americans who travel outside of America. Skepta sounds like a complete clown for that comment. Disappointed with his ignorance about Americans.

  • @BarcaBoyTrix

    I don't know.. This comes across very entitled.. almost disingenuous.. Like somehow he has ascended to a higher mind space to a point where he has elevated past the mentality of people who make this music. Obviously Mc's of his generation are no longer in the same mindframe they were in when Grime was at is peak but that does not mean that he can no longer make the music, I mean Jay Z still raps 30 years after his come up? No? .. This was hard to listen to, he was almost making an excuse for the Musical direction his career has taken. It seems far too often Mc's who have transcended 'Grime' and have gained great crossover/international success think they have to disown the genre almost like they have outgrown it, and Seek success in the wider more popular arena. It's just disappointing to hear someone try and justify this 😔

      Fair point and i get it. I love grime and wish old grime mcs will still do the thing in the genre BUT it is progression so i get his point of view as well. Stomzy prob the one that used grime most as a stepping stone

    • @tx1143
      @tx1143 Před 4 lety +19

      Surely this is less of a justification and more of a realisation of self, if he’s no longer on that energy which allowed him to come up in grime then why should he have to pretend that he’s a 10 year younger version of himself, when he’s at the stage in his career and life more importantly where realistically he can do what the fuck he wants. We all love grime music and I for one would love it to go back to the pinnacle of LOTM and rinse but they were young men predominantly rapping about their experiences in the ends and music was an emotional and spiritual release but also an opportunity to get out. Surely it becomes more disingenuous if you have a 40 year old skepta on his block rapping about things that happened years ago.

    UK Drill is an American import music and doesn't translate with British Culture, unlike Afro Swing does. Drill rappers are bad for business unlike Grime or Afro Swing is, but "we" rather support murder music from America instead of pushing Afro Swing forward and creating it into a business just like Grime and DnB.
    Why would Nike, Reebok or Adidas pour money into Drill rappers when they'll either be killed or be in jail a week later? We have Not3s, Yxng Bane, B Young and other Afro Swing artists making positive music, but prefer to support members of Zone 2 or Silwood nation. Personally, Londoners are the most lost people of all living in England, which is why others from main cities in England such as Manchester, Bristol or Liverpool laughs at Londoners. American carbon copies lol.
