    Hi, I have a 147GTA in Australia, I've upgraded the brakes to 330mm, Eibach pro street S coilovers and Q2 Diff, I have decatted wizard manifolds with supersprint exhaust, after a remap now runs 270 bhp its now the car that should have come out of the factory and really scares the trap out of modern hatches. :)

    My wife had no idea what she was doing when she innocently bought me a 2005 147 Ti 2.L. Normally I would have been very wary of such a car, but the Timing belts had been done, Suspension and all otehr checks had been sorted due to a stringent Registration check after 12 months unregistered in Aust. The seller, an elderly Italiian mechanic, (retired) whose shed is just chokka full of bits and spares. She had no idea what had been unleashed. It had been 40 years since my previous Alfa, and cars since then had been very, very generic. Immediately the earworm was Queen, "I'm in love with my car." Thanks for supporting my passion.

    What a great video!
    I still remember when I had the chance to drive the 147 GTA 15 years ago.
    The 3.2 V6 has the most beautiful sound you could imagine, and it is so powerful. It was really the best V6 engine at that time.
    I made a huge mistake: I have not replaced my 156 SW 2.5 V6 by the 147 GTA. My 156 was fantastic, but the engine of the 147 GTA was much better.

      Hi mate, how are you? Keeping sane? Thanks for watching - those alloys are 166 Supersport reproductions, made by a UK company that aren’t around any more. I don’t even know what they were called but I’ve never seen another set. They are made to fit the 156 (5x98) with no adapters etc, as the 166 wheels (5x108) were a different fitment to the 156. I’m very biased towards to Busso as you might have guessed! Stay safe mate.

      @TheAlfaNut  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Steve, thanks for commenting. Yeah I've always preferred cars with some grunt as well as top end power. The Busso is such a flexible and torquey engine. Years ago I used to own a BMW 535D which was remapped to 350 bhp and 670nm of torque! That car could pull tree stumps!! No you are not alone in preferring the original front end, I do too. The later upgrades look a bit "overhang" heavy in my opinion. Look after that 156 - not many left!

Have to say that the 2001 is waaaay better in terms of construction quality, assembling, reliability, etc. After 19 years, it holds together very well. And, needless to say, it is still lovely to drive... I've got also a Giulietta 1.4 multiar 170cv, but using the 147 90% of times... Cheers from Italy!

    I have to say I don't agree with the criticism of the steering, seats and a cramped interior, and they were certainly not know for floor pan rust, until they are well over 10 - 15 years old. These were the bias complaints of Golf obsessed motoring journalists.
    True the suspension bushes were made of cheese, but overall it was an excellent car.
    Having owned 2 twinspark models my complaints were obviously the bushes, weak camshaft variator, and the chassis was not stiff enough, the 4 door cars were better, the 2 door version has terrible chassis flex, which can be cured by fitting a front strut brace, no need to do that on the 4 door version.
    I reckon the 147 interior build quality is better than the giulietta that replaced it, and the twinspark was always reliable if you kept the oil topped up and cambelt changed on time. I covered about 12,000 miles in each of my 147s without any reliability issues whatsoever mechanical or electrical. The reason I owned 2 is because after I sold the first one I missed it so much I had to get another.

    • @TheAlfaNut
      @TheAlfaNut  Před 4 lety

      I agree - in my limited experience the 147 was quite comfortable inside (I'm 6ft) and the steering is like most Alfas - pointy and direct. I didn't know about the chassis flex, that's interesting and I think the interior build quality is also pretty good. My GT is excellent inside - very solid. As I said in the vid though - these were just "professional" road testers niggles and we all ignore what mainstream testers say about Alfas don't we!
