      Souther Africans? The term sub saharan is a racist, inaccurate and revisionist term. The black people who were Moors came from.the Sahel and North Africa.
      Based on the depictions or Moors in European artwork during their rule and afterwards, the Moors seem to be mostly made up of Black Africans.
      And all wither from Ethiopia and North African and the sahel. Negroes are native to ALL of Africa.they were their first before berbers migrated in and carved out their own space. Albiet with some a mixing too.

      No it's not! The Umayyad occupation of the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) was made by the Umayyad Caliphate (Arabs) that conquered all Arabia, Mesopotamia, Levante and North Africa in 7th Century. And then occupied the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) from 8th to 13th Century in Portugal (1249). From 8th to 15th Century in Spain (1492). In terms of Kingdoms it was the Umayyad Caliphate, Fatimids, Almoravids, Almohads and Nasrids. In other words thousands of Arabs, Amazighs and also thousands of Persians and Syrians that the Ummayad Caliphate brought from Mesopotamia and Levante to North Africa. Amazighs (Berber) armies were used by everyone in North Africa. Phoenicians used them. Romans used them. Arabs used them. Pretending that all the Knowledge that Arabs brought to Iberian Peninsula didn't came from Arabia, Mesopotamia, Levante and Egypt is just being biased. In the end of the day the influences left in the Iberian Peninsula are Arabic. The algebra that we use is Indian-Arabic. Our languages (Portuguese and Spanish) have hundreds of Arabic words adaptions. And Nautical Science, Navigation, Astrolabe, Sextant none of that came from Africa. Iberians were sea people at least since presence of Phoenicians in 1100BC. Phoenicians (Carthaginian Empire) spread all around the Mediterranean Sea coming from Lebanon, Syria where they emerged in 3000BC. The fact that they used berber cavalry in the Maghreb 'cause they set the Capital of their Carthaginian Empire in Carthage, Tunisia built in 900BC, doesn't make them African.
      Portugal was born in 1143 (12th Century) and defeated the Muslim Moors (Arabs, Persians, Syrians and Amazighs (Berbers)) in 1249 (13th Century). That's before Mansa Musas's Mali "Empire" that only florished under the control of the Islamic World and as vassals of the Sultans of Mecca. Portuguese Navy, Nautical Science, Navigation, Boat construction is the result of several Schools the Kingdom implemented bringing Specialist from all the World. In 1415 Portugal started the Age of Discovery by conquering Ceuta (Muslim Moors City in North Africa) and started sailing to get to India around Africa in 1419. And did it with boats and skills that changed World's Nautical History forever. In 1500 Portuguese were already the first Global Empire of the World with territories in all Continents. From China to Brasil. What Portuguese found in Southern Regions of Africa were primitive tribes not even comparable to Egypt that by that time was already quite primitive when compared to European Empires! Stop propagating lies you're embarassing yourselves (Americans) and real Africans! Best Regards from Portugal, American Kangz!

There are some minor differences between early Moors and current north Africa, but their ethnic composition remains largely intact. The closest ethnic relations to North Africa is the eastern Mediterranean and Southern Europe.

      @@alpharius_nox Mmodern genetics is empirical in nature, and history is more subjective as well. Genetics give us a clear understanding, on a mass statistical scale, of various ethnicities. We can identify genetic material in individuals from Arabia VS Israel VS Sudan Vs Congo VS Spaiin, etc. Of course there are people that exhibit multiple concentrations (i.e. mixed genetics), but we can still discern the various strains of genetics, even in those mixed individuals. Further, we can determine chronology of genetic material based on it's placement in sequencing, in analogy like a skyscraper (whose earliest constructions are closer to the ground). What is empirically seen in Berber countries is a majority of earliest genetics that is NOT the same as later West African, Arabic, or Southern European genetic migrants. This is the native Berber ethnicity that is the oldest in the gene code - uniquely found in this area of North Africa in the highest degree. It's is closest related to the Iberian genome (i.e. early native spaniards share the most similarities with these native berbers, and other peoples, such as subsaharans, are much less related, and when subsaharan DNA is detected in Berber individuals, it is most commonly a small amount that is chronologically at a later date in history, so not the native population at all). This genetic analysis also has a very important aspect to it - it shows that ethnicities, including the Berbers, rarely undergo a deep transition into a "melting pot" over the centuries - that is a false and racist postmodern narrative. Even within a "diverse society", we can still genetically determine who a majority group is, and who came when. History, in this context, is merely a secondary verification of genetics.

      @@514Exc Did you flag my first comment to you, because it's not here anymore. Are you one of those fabled "we waz kangz" sophists? It's racist to blackwash African history. There could be dozens of mummies that bear genetic similarities to subsaharans, and that doesn't represent the actual parent ethnicity of most mummies or genetic analysis (or historical accounts). There's always been travelers from nearby countries in history, as well as a minority of relocating migrants, so that doesn't make genetics and history some subjective pot where we can trick people into historical revisionism. Further, let's see those sources for this outlying "black mummy". You are completely lying, in an anti-semetic tone, about ashkenazi DNA amongst Berbers. This same faulty reasoning about outlying mummies is used for Upper Egypt as well. The genetics don't lie. Even places like Spain, which was also a target for muslims, only bears a statistical minority of shared Arabic or Berber DNA, typically only seen in small portions in the deep south. In the central and North of Spain, that minor foreign DNA becomes even statistically smaller, oftentimes nonexistent.

    North Africa and Spain have been long part of an european empire, the roman empire. During that time many european lived in Africa long before Arabs. Alger (Iconium) has been founded by Romans for example. Morocco and Spain were even part of the same roman district, the "diocesis Hispaniorum". After the fall of the roman empire, western Europe and north Africa has been invaded by germanic people such as Goths in Spain, Franks in Gaul and Vandals in Africa. Despite the fall of the empire, links have never really been broken between north Africa and Europe. They all shared the same christian religion and continued to have trade. In the 6th century north Africa was taken back by the eastern roman empire which controled Syria, Egypt and Palestine too. Then came Islam wich led to a profound ceasura between the islamic and the christian part of the mediterranean world. So North Africa had always had more relationship with Europe than with subsaharan Africa separated by a huge desert that was much more difficult to cross than the mediterranean sea.
    Africans doesnt mean black. Africa is a roman name, they gave it to Tunisia after they have invaded it and it was inhabited by phoenicians (Carthag) who came from Middle East. So first people named Africans in history were not black. Moors, like Numids were not black. Most of berbers are not black, they even have lighter skin than Arabs. It is true that you also have some black berbers but they live in the southern parts of North Africa like Mauritania. So, it has been during a very short period that some black muslims dominated Spain : the Almoravid dynasty which originated from Mauritania and lasted 50 years before being overthrowed by Almohad who were Arabs.

      Exactly! "Mouros" for us Portuguese or "Maurus/Mauri" for Roman/Italians didn't refer to the same people necessarily. That's a vague term. For Romans Maurus/Mauri were the Phoenicians (Carthaginian Empire) and their Amazigh (Berber) armies. For Portuguese and Spanish Mouros were the Umayyad Caliphate, Almoravids, Almohads, Nasrids that occupied the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) in 8th-13th Century in Portugal and 8th-15th Century in Spain. In other words Arabs, Persians, Syrians and Amazighs (Berbers).
      Portuguese culture since Medieval Times was influenced by a lot of people Celts, Visigoths, Romans, Phoenicians and also Muslim Moors (Arabs, Persians, Syrians, Amazighs). As was South Italy for example since the Phoenicians (Carthaginian Empire) 'cause they had territories/ports/cities all around the Mediterranean Sea since 1100BC. From their original Cities in Levante (Lebanon, Syria), to Egypt, Lybia, Tunisia where they built Carthage in 900BC (conquered by Romans in 146BC), Argelia, Morocco, South Iberian Peninsula, Malta, South Italy, South Greece.
      Phoenicians (Carthaginian Empire) used Amazigh (Berber) cavalry. So did Romans in their North African Provinces in Mauretanea (Morocco and Argelia). Not to be confused with nowadays Mauritania, the the Country.
      For us Portugal (Born in 1143) the Muslim Moors (Arabs, Persians, Syrians, Amazighs) occupation only took 106 years till 1249, when the last Sultan of Algarve was defeated.

    Travels In Africa By Nahum Slouschz 1927 Page 365
    However in 711AD, the conquest of Spain was again undertaken, this time by the Musselmans in concert WITH THE JEWS. The first one to set foot on the soil of Spain was General Tarif (“a Jew of the tribe of Simeon”), after whom the island of Tarifa, opposite Tangiers, was named. Another Israelite Berber chief, named Kaulan el Yehudi, followed the Arabs into Spain and, after the peninsula had been occupied by the Mussalmans, tried to raise a REBELLION AGAINST THEM. Among other Jews connected with the conquest of Spain were two sons of the Cahena, at the head of the army of Jerua.

The first attempt was made by the almoravids who came from mauritania. They were succeeded by the almohads who were ruled by a family from Nedroma, an algerian city. Neither the almoravids nor the almohads were indigenous to the entity now called morocco. Both chose capitals in that entity for geopolitical reasons. As for the ethnicity of the Moors, they were Berbers. They were mostly brown-skinned people. They were in fact neither black nor white as some have made them to be. The europeans, in both art and literature, painted them as blacks in opposition to white europeans. The muslim armies also included blacks who converted to Islam. Slavery was an integral part of the Muslim empire and this very fact undermines the thesis that the moors were black-skinned people. As I have shown in a nutshell, this is the complex reality that the proponents of the opposite theses are unable of grasping.

    This is not true!

    Before anyone refers to the Roman Empire as the main influence of civilising of the European continent, do not forget all the other empires that existed before the Roman Empire.
    In fact if you look back in history beyond the Roman Empire, you will discover that many of those that preceded the Roman Empire originated from the East and South of the Mediterranean.
    Prior to those earlier empires, Europe was considered lands populated by barbarians. In fact, the Romans, you could say, were civilised by these earlier empire builders, and could only continue to spread the knowledge they learned from these earlier conquerors.
    I think it would be more realistic for us to admit to the fact that our collective knowledge has always been built on older knowledge throughout history and from peoples who came before us from other civilisations that were more advanced than ours at an earlier time.

But let's not forget the Romans were not in existence when the Greeks were at their zenith, and were considered not much more than barbarians.
      The Greeks, in turn, were only able to develop their civilization on the backs of the Egyptians and Mesopotamians. Which if you well know, are not considered parts of Europe.
      And I'm sure, despite the little that is known today, for sure, where the Egyptians and Mesopotamians piggybacked their learning from, to think any civilization could actually magically become civilised without the help of earlier peoples is nothing short of naivete.
      Let me go a step further by pointing out that if it was not for the conquest and occupation of the Iberian Peninsula by the Umayyad Empire, Greek philosophy, mathematics and even medicine would have been lost forever because of the fall of Rome Empire and the ensuing dark ages.
      Just as no man is an island, so neither is any collective of people able to advance on their own steam alone.

    @Algeriaforever10 Před 6 měsíci +1

    @Wiserhuman1 Your comment shows that you have a superficial grasp of history and a proclivity to exaggerate the role that Morocco had played in al-Andalus and in North Africa.
    Morocco is the only country in North Africa where indigenous elites played a minor role in state-formation. Indeed, the Idrissids (Saudi Arabia), the Zirids (Algeria) the Almoravids (Mauritania-Western Sahara), the Almohads (the rulers were from Nedroma, Algeria), the Merinids/Wattasids (Algeria), had their origins outside of al-maghreb al-aqsa, the true name of Morocco.
    All history books attest to this fact (see my bibliography) and to the fact that al maghreb el aqsa played a minor role in the history of al-Andalus and in North Africa.
    I have emphasized this point in a previous commentary. I also provide a list of books that support this viewpoint.
    As I have underscored in a previous commentary, the non-moroccan dynasties of the Almoravids, of the Almohads and the Mernids had intervened in Al-Andalus at the time of the reconquista. They were unable to turn the tide of warfare in the Iberian Peninsula. These dynasties had built capitals in al maghreb el aqsa for strategic reasons: to be close to Spain in order to wage the Jihad, which was the raison d'être of these dynasties.
    It is disingeneous on your part to claim these dynasties which have conquered al maghreb el aqsa (and other territories in North Africa) as Moroccan ones. The Huns had conquered a huge territory in Eastern Europe. But none of the peoples inhabiting that territory has claimed the Huns as their own dynasties.
    In short, you are the product of the Makhzen's propaganda and its folie des grandeurs. "Greater Morocco" has existed only in Allal el Fassi's sick mind.
    I advise you to read the following books, they will help you free yourself from the Makhzen's propaganda:
    Pierre Guichard, Al Andalus, 711-1492: une histoire de l'espagne musulmane;
    André Clot, L'espagne musulmane, VIII-XVe siècle,
    Philip Conrad, Histoire de la reconquista;
    Pierre Guichard et Bruna Siravia, Les royaumes des taifas

    • @Wiserhuman1

      The “Makhzen” propaganda.. are you serious dude? For some reason you seem to absolutely want to de-Moroccanize Morocco from its own history. This is an absurd, unrealistic goal and demonstrates how pointless it is to debate with a person like you.
      Let's talk about dynasties and their origins. The Almoravids were founded by Abdallah ibn Yasin, a Moroccan who was born in the Moroccan Western Sahara. Some historians suggest that he was born in the Moroccan Sousse. The Almohads were founded by Ibn Tumert who was born in the Moroccan High Atlas. The Merinids were founded by Abu Yahya Abu Bakr ibn Abi Yusuf who's birthplace is estimated to be in morocco due to the fact that he was from the Zenata tribe, more politically active in Morocco. The Wattasids were founded by Abu Abd Allah al-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Wattasi who was also from the zenata tribes .The Saadians were founded by Muhammad al-Mahdi al-Qaim who was born in Sousse. The Alawite dynasty was founded by Moulay Charif who was born in the Tafilalt region.
      Moroccans have always played a key role in the founding and development of each of these dynasties. To think otherwise is synonymous with total absurdity and profound irrationality. Morocco has always had an influential role in the Maghreb and has always been an important kingdom in the region. The Moroccans were renowned for their military strength, which is why the Ottomans decided to maintain good relations with Morocco at a time when the Turks were annexing the rest of the Maghreb.
      It's not the French who are going to teach us our Moroccan history. We do not depend on foreign historians to come and teach us what happened on our lands.

    It’s important to delve into history through reading, as images alone cannot provide a comprehensive understanding. It’s noteworthy that the Moroccan Sultans employed African soldiers in their armies. Some of these soldiers’ leaders were handsomely compensated by the Sultan, enjoying luxuries such as opulent houses, fine clothing, and companionship. However, their roles were confined to their military duties and they were not involved in the dynastic rule, the Moorish people in general, or the intellectual advancements of the time. These African individuals were hired warriors, their contributions primarily limited to their skills in warfare. Their lifestyle and compensation should not be misconstrued as having a broader influence on the achievements of the dynasties they served.

      @@govinasimpson170 What they refer to as “black Moors” are "Abid Al Boukhari" or " The black guard of the Sultan", they are not ethnically Moors; they are African soldiers hired to fight for the Moors. Europeans who saw them on the battlefield with the real Moors called them “black Moors”. The Moorish movement in America originated from these African soldiers who went to america in slavery trades..

      But what does this have to do with who the Moors were?, like I said, the people of Morocco back then, do not look like the Moroccans now, and Mansa Musa was the richest man in the World and has links to family members that were Moors in Spain, so are you saying that these Moroccan sultans had more power than the richest man in the World?.

      @@treycampbell3533 It seems you have some issues with the historical timeline. Andalusia was conquered by the Arabs in 700. After them, it was the Moroccan dynasties of the Almoravids and Almohads who took over the governance of Andalusia in 1080, following the fall of the Umayyad Arabs. The Mali Empire and Mansa Musa, whom you mentioned, were in the 1300s, which is 600 years after the Arab conquest and 300 years after the Moorish conquest. Do you see that you do not have a good grasp of the subject? Please learn history from reliable sources, not from propaganda channels.
