The event will be hosted jointly by the President of the Max Planck Society (MPG) and the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT), organizers of the Dioscuri Programme in Czechia, as well as the Czech Academy of Sciences and Masaryk University, hosts of the first Dioscuri Centres. Dioscuri was initiated by MPG to promote the development of scientific excellence in Central and Eastern Europe. It currently supports eleven outstanding scientists in establishing and leading a highly visible research group in the form of a Dioscuri Centre in Poland and Czechia. The Programme strives to institute future-oriented research fields and international standards of scientific quality throughout the region, thereby strengthening the European Research Area as a whole. The upcoming event celebrates the inauguration of the following Dioscuri Centres at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (FZU CAS) and the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University (MUNI), respectively: Dioscuri Centre for Spin-Caloritronics and Magnonics (Helena Reichlová, FZU CAS), Dioscuri Centre for Stem Cell Biology and Metabolic Diseases (Peter Fabian, MUNI), Dioscuri Centre for Single-Molecule Optics (Barbora Špačková, FZU CAS).
The introduction of the three new Dioscuri Centres will be followed by a Panel Discussion on Empowering Early Career Researchers: Towards Excellence and Autonomy. Representatives from MPG, CAS and MUNI will discuss with young research leaders how institutions can support early-career researchers in achieving scientific excellence and independence.
